Why this isnt the end of the World
By: Javier | September 14th, 2011
So its a day after our first Champions League match of the season.
Now I know that the general consensus is that the draw was a huge dissapointment..
And to some extent i agree that a win against Genk would have been a far more just result.
But im here to tell you this result is not the end of the world.
First off lets be perfectly frank about one key point.
This is the Champions League.
There are no bad teams here.
Genk included.
Teams that make it this far are here for a reason.
They are excellent squads that if not physically always up to par have staff and players that can recognize that and adjust their strategy to compete.
Yes Valencia CF are a superiour team to Genk..
Valencia would beat Genk on most days.. just not this day.
Keep in mind this was an away match and played with players like Feghouli and Parejo as key players in order to bloody them in a real match.
.. and even with that Valencia clearly dominated the match from begining to end with few chances given to the home team.
The lack of goal was more due to bad luck that bad skill.
I mean do those fans who doubt Valencia CF’s talent call into doubt Barcelona as well.. they drew against Real Sociedad.. a team far from Champions in quality.
On any given day on any given pitch anything can happen.
Valencia in an away match to a hostile pitch with a team hell bent on not losing with no intention of moving forward in the Champions League but only to not concede doesnt really worry me.
A draw was always a possibilty.
This match will not be the watershed in this group.. those matches are still to come.
At the end of the day Valencia have a point and Leverkusen do not.
Give our team some credit.
Positives ive seen from the stands of Mestalla this week..
The Defence.
Say what you will about Miguel being a party boy.. or that Ruiz is too new.. Mathieu gets tired.. bla bla
This Defence seems to have finally found a solid back 4.
Its like the Misfits of futbol.. So two frenchmen a portuguese and a B team spaniard walk into a bar..
ok nevermind.
The fact is we have not conceded a goal in two matched against two solid teams.
And the defence looks good.
For once the defence finally looks sturdy and organized.
Mathieu is fast .. Ruiz directs the trafic and moves the ball out.. Rami is a brick wall. and Miguel is adding play back to the right side of our pitch.
If we can figure out how to get Piatti into the game and somebody on the right wing to add danger we have a very complete squad.
In 3 days we face Sporting Gijon a team who has failed to chaulk up any points.
Once again Valencia will bring home 3 points
… and with that we can look forward to welcoming Barca to the infierno of Mestalla!
Amunt Valencia!

If one thinks that politics or the economy is gonna change in Spain, one is naive, Spain will never have a decent government, regardless if they are left or right, all the same shit. The problem with Spain is that people are lazy, they dont wanna work for their money. 20% unemployment? Gotta be kidding me. You even saw this with the implementation of the Bologna agreement, suddenly students actually needed to study to pass exams, and many problems arose just cause students were never used to achieving something through work.
Economically Spain has nothing more to offer then they already do and the only reason they got some growth in recent years was cause of European integration and tourism. Integration is now final and tourism goes new places.
The construction boom made Soler and co rich but will never again get to those heights cause Spain isnt hot anymore. The only reason prices would go up in Valencia is when there is a massive population influx or an economic development, two things Valencia wont experience to a large scale in the next years. So dream on about the 300M. Speculation destroyed that market to an extend far beyond reasonable limits.
Sure Javier, never sell when in a rush or when desperate, unless you dont own the place. Valencia has a huge dept, loans like that cost 15 million a year, at least. You wait 4 more years, the dept interest rates and hypothetical profits of the sale right now, will equal your 300 Million.
There is no profit money anymore in the real estate business in Spain. Try buying Mestalla for 300M, then construct for some 200M at least and try selling it in this climate. I wish you good luck!!

Johnnie
You just said the thing that I never want to say which is Spanish people are lazy, never said it because it’s a bit racist and worse it’s true *facepalm* a lot is because of that but if you chance the government to people that actually do work and make the people work will solve almost everything it’s something new and something they have to get used to but I was always afraid of saying it.

-

Javier, I suppose the question is how long it would take for the prices to go up again and if we can afford to wait that long. The deterioration of the partially constructed Nou Mestalla is an immediate concern.

-

Jafer,
something which is true can never be racist
When I lived in Spain i noticed this difference in worth ethic, which is integrated in Spanish culture like my work ethic comes from my Dutch heritage. Politics dont change a culture on short term, they just govern the country. Almost every country in Europe has to cut costs, have decreasing spending power and lowering real estate prices. Im talking about Germany, UK, France, NL, countries that are way ahead of Spain in terms of economic strength. If even those countries are taking steps back, no way Spain is recovering any day soon with their budget deficits and huge depts. So now comes the time that one has to cut his losses and move on. I think everybody has seen the Nou Mestalla gamble being a failure so far, we should be realistic and move on. Sell and restructure.

Johnnie im a spaniard and im not lazy. so ya its racist.
Do not mistake nordic work culture with med work culture.
Spain right now has 20% unemployment due to a variety of factors none of which are laziness.
Alot of it has to do with volatile banking practices.
In Spain people work to live.. not vice versa like in the north. But i go to work every single day.for very little money by comparison to what northerners pay.
And you know what i wouldnt trade it for anything… we dont have half the crime or violence that other countries experience.
The country is culturally rich. Life isnt about money. Something i learned growing up in Canada where the economiy is good and the country is shit. Dont mistake culture ignorance for fact. There are alot of things Spain can do better.. but this government is not in its problems due to its own doing but due to international global economic slowdown.. brought on largely to the decline of the American Empire.
Do not over simplify very very complex problems with a general statement like Spaniards are lazy.. you lose credibilty very quickly.
For the record.. growth in France Germany ect are not much ahead of Spain overall. They do however have far larger populations and traditionally had more manufacturing clout.. if this problem was so eay to get out of then the problem would have been resolved by now.
clearly its much deeper than your statement.

Javier well then im a racist. Exceptions are always there but i find it striking to see that Spaniards need siestas and easy living while half of Asia works like crazy in an even hotter climate. In comparison to loads of countries, many Spaniards are just lazy(ier).
Just for the record, I worked and lived in Spain as well, i have done business with the Spanish and so have many I know. Obviously there are people who do work, but in comparison to the north the efficiency and work ethics of the Spanish are much lower. They can not be depended on for much in my experience, deadlines are taken lightly, payments are usually late, quality is many times below par. Its just the way they do business, manana manana. So from an economical point of view, they arent even close to Northern Europe. Btw crime rates in GER, NL, LUX, BE, CH, AU, Scandinavia, are much lower than the Spanish, so you are wrong in that sense too.
Plus clearly you lack much knowledge of the Spanish economic track record when saying this is mostly the fault of volatile banking practices. Or the decline of the American Empire. We all work the same market, so why should others do much better than Spain?? How can the unemployment and economic development be mostly the fault of other countries, thats like saying you are broke but thats cause your neighbour has a job. You have too many internal problems to solve before blaming someone else.
I never said anything about culture or working to live or vice versa. I also dont deny Spain being culturally rich, but your cultural richness wont pay for Mestalla. I did enjoy living in Spain, but just for relaxing, i prefer Switzerland or northern Europe anyday. In the north people have ambition, they have the entrepreneurial drive to achieve bigger things. Thats what makes your economy grow.
And just for the record, i work for an investment firm that had some opportunities to invest in the Spanish real estate market. We did our analyses, our in depth reports on the market and there was little positive about it. We stay far away from Spain. Thats why im saying we should sell Mestalla now.

-

@Jafar Real and Barca dont have debt??? Your very wrong there mate, they too have piles of it. And even they spend more then they earn so they need to sell if they get less as well.

-

Wont get into the Sapin is lazy discussion here too much but i do like to point out that Ireland has the same mess, are Irish lazy too? Im not so sure about this argument.
Both just constructed way too much during the boom years when capital was readily available and now got a huge surplus which makes it very hard for the property market to recover. You can actually see the unfinished building stuff anywhere. This is i think kind of always the case with crisis: when thinngs go good noone remembers things can go bad, its human nature. The ones that do wanr and remember are the town’s fool.
Also Spains debts by GDP are not THAT high yet. Debt by GDP in 2010 was comparable with the Netherlands and well below the likes of France, Germany and the UK for example. They do have a big deficit but if they manage to cut it they are far from doomed at the state level.
But this is economics and lets keep about football here shall we?

@Martijn
When did I ever say RnB don’t have debt? I know both have huge debts but they generate enough money to not worry and very good argument of Ireland and a lot of strong countries/tribes/civilisations have suffered from these things as they were unprepared for it(I have read a little into this but forgot about it lol)

-

@Jafar Quotation from you response: “But the thing is we are in debt RnB aren’t” September 19, 1.57 AM. Or just look above
Prolly you didnt mean it like that a different thing which i cant be aware of. But now i get you points, they do need to increasingly worry about it though.

-

@Martijn
I had a horrible spelling and grammar day that day,I made a lot of mistakes that I only later found out.

-

how about we stop talking about lazy people because i’m kuwaiti and i’m lazy..
both of you happy kids?
what about tomorrow’s game?
