Welkom in Amsterdam
By: Javier | July 20th, 2009
Does anyone else think that Amsterdam is an odd choice for a summer training camp for some wealthy 20 somethings? No just me. Oh well maybe its a touch of jealousy.
Of course i’m talking about our beloved Valencia CF arriving at their training camp in Amsterdam. The lads arrived today and already have a heavy training schedule for tomorro. All except the spanish national team players that played the confederations cup this summer.
Every summer when the team arrives at their preseason training camp i find its a great time to focus on the progress the team is making. Check out the positives. So lets see what is possitive in the news.
So lets start off with the players themselves.
First off we have made some great signings this season. The last few seasons we have signed strikers.. we signed wingers.. we signed just about everything except what we needed to strengthen our defences. Valencia have always been a defensive powerhouse that mastered the counter attack. Especially during our Champions years. Then we lost Ayala, Carboni, Pelegrino and Angloma. We never replaced those players sufficiently. So you can imagine my excitment when this transfer season we signed Bruno, Dealbert and Jeremy Mathieu. Our midfield and attack is quite good & sometimes magnificent; but it didnt matter when the midfield had to constantly run back to save the defence. Expect this season to be tough and fast paced; a VCF squad with a much harder wall at the back. The return of Fernandes should make for a good show in the midfield. Who will step up to fill the last CM possition. Baraja, Banega.. Michel ? Will Zigic play this season ?
Second bit of great news. Villa and Silva are still here. Yes i know there has been endless drama about Villa for months.. but look. After all that he is still here. And Superdeporte even has pictures of him smiling and reading my favorite Valencian newpaper. So far our team looks in tact and re-inforced. There are bound to be some changes but all in all i think Valencia has vastly improved so far this summer. I cant wait for the friendlies, which brings us to the next point.
Those are some Unfriendly Friendlies.
Manchester United, Arsenal , Werder Bremmen. These are some of the best teams in Europe and we are lining them up for friendlies in the preseason. Its exciting.. its terrifying. Its must see football. Ive already bought my ticket for the Arsenal game in the trofeo de naranja. 10 euroes for a ticket. Damn right ill be there. Come join me. http://www.valenciacf.com/es/Taquilla/
Whats your opinion on this preseason?
Construction crews..? At night ? say it is so !
So friday night my friend Miguel and i decide we really want pizza hut. I know.. i live in valencia.. of all things Pizza Hut? yeah i know. But thats not the story. They story is as we drove by Nou Mestalla i was shocked to see.. workers. Lights. Trucks. And it was late night. Ok there werent many. But i drive by there all the time and for months i have seen not a soul at the site. Friday night, workers.
Im going to take this as possitive news that work will resume shortly and that things are turning around for our beloved Valencia CF.
On a side note. Unemployment dropped in Valencia by 57,000 in the last two months. ![]()
If anybody doesnt know about this already here is the link to watch the construction in progress… soon maybe we will see some real work done.

True Valencianistas.
Im still waiting for my turn to buy shares of Valencia. I want to do it because i want to help my club, my home team. Valencia CF has been a part of my life since i was born. Apparently im not the only one.
David Albelda, Vicente Rodríguez, David Navarro, Míchel, Nikola Zigic and Bruno Saltor spend around 2400 euroes each buying up shares in VCF.
A nice show of loyalty and dedication to ones club.
However, after the heart and soul Valencianistas showed their colours
David Albelda made the example that he is going to invest 100,000 euroes in VCF shares, upon hearing this Vicente decided he would invest 80,000 in shares.
These players both state that they are not in any way being forced to do this but that they want to because VCF is not only their team but they also grew up Che and want to encourage others to invest as well. “We are a part of valencia, it is good for us to lead by example and help” Albelda.
Well ladies and gents lets see what happens with our boys in the first friendly.
Amunt Valencia!

I will not be that happy if we start the season with the squad we have now because we need to get a decent CB.What are we anyways? Scouts for other teams? how come our opponents always get the players are linked with first? I don’t get this and I’m very annoyed by this. Fuck Sevville or whatever they call themselves!

We have no money, that’s why we can’t buy people. Plus, we have about 35 players in our squad.

I think betweem Alexis, Marchena, Dealbert, Navarro, and Maduro we are okay at CB. It’s not the best backline in the world, but hey, its la liga. You don’t need the best backline in the world.

Can’t sleep, ugh…

Then they need to start selling or include them in deals to sign the players we want.

@ Timothy Lakefront
I hope so, too, but they seems to have a squad that’s as good as ours, if not quite as bloated/deep.

HIGHLIGHTS!!! And a sweet pic of Michel making the ADO defense look like a bunch of school kids

Thanks for the highlights and pic, Kyle. Looks like Nacho is ahead of Miku and Ever in the fight for a spot on the squad.

@ timothy
haha no worries mate, i enjoyed the joke very much
Nice bet you made there he, i made the exact same bet when i lived in Valencia, with a co-worker. Turned out Koeman signed with us 3 weeks later…

Matthieu/Del Horno – Maduro/Alexis – Marchena/Dealbert – Bruno/Miguel
I… I… I actually like it
It just gets complicated in attack even though that’s our strongest area. Everyone’s being moved around. I hope we still The Sex God, I’m sure he’ll be a good super sub. I just hope Madrid don’t buy him

Guys let’s not forget that Villa, Silva, Pablo, and Marchena are coming back in a week or so…so some of the guys that played yesterday have to go.
Olcina should go if Joaquin and Pablo stays. If Angulo does leave then Miku should stay. As for Alba, I dont know, he is very impressive but with Mata, Vicente and Silva playing in that position I dont think he would get enough playing time.
Our management should still be working getting rid of the fringe players.

I’m glad we won yesterday, seeing our youngsters doing a decent job it seems. Red card was exaggerated, Nacho didnt do much, Ricky van der Bergh is an idiot anyways. But he, lets not forget we played probably the worst team in Dutch football, so it wasnt exactly a big deal. I know i know, im always critical, but against such teams i hope when our squad is complete we will win with like 8-0, we should! Lets see how we do against ZE GERMANS, than we’ll get a good look at how good our players are.
Btw, Michel is staying with us for sure… Did I already mention I dont like him??

I am quite happy with this decision I must say. I like Míchel – I only hope, PRAY that he’ll get enough chances to prrove himself and gain experience!

The sale of Zigic might have approached a lot last night. The transfer of Huntelaar to Stuttgart just pooped, Huntelaar prefers to go to England.

Now Zigic may be in the focus of Stuttgart who have 30 million Euro to spend on a new striker after Gomez left. In German media Zigic was linked several times with Stuttgart, here in Spain it was only “a Bundesliga club”.

Im with Johnnie on this one, I am not as impressed by Michel as Emery is. He’s a decent young player but extremely overrated.

Manuel Fernandes to miss the next two friendlies.
Unai Emery: “Michel will stay with us”.

@JW, haha, it looks like my bet has better timing – unless your compatriot Koeman comes back from the dead to refurbish his tattered legacy. Regarding Michel, although clearly talented, I’m not sold on him yet. But Emery is clearly a fan. I just hope that Angulo get’s a steppin!http://www.marca.com/2009/07/23/futbol/equipos/valencia/1248343844.html

If Emery were Wenger, anyone that he would trust would be automatically considered as a potentially world class player…
I hope that his unmindful beliefs toward Michel are justified.
Let’s face the fact: Michel is a youth academy product. He’s Spanish and since Silva, nobody has been tagged as promising for the first team.
My guess is that Emery is praising him high because he needs to show to the public that he cares for the Valenciens and wants them to show affection to their local boys.
So, unless that Michel screws his chances big time, the man in charge will show him unconditional belief in him. Or, until another catenra’s product reveals himself.

i think michel’s problem is confidence..i think this season he will be better..and him coming good in the endurance tests and all those will certainly be a boost..

I hate U2. I’d rather have some real cockney music – The Jam or The Libertines – to present the lads.

Michel is probably our new Angulo….he gives everything he has in every single match. But isnt the best striker, nor the best winger or the best midfielder (he played all 3 positions last year). He’s 7/10 in almost everything he does but thats just about it.
I hope im wrong about him but I dont see any exceptional talent in him.
