Villa, Osasuna, Timo and Valencia
By: Cesar | September 20th, 2008
So it looks like David Villa is ready and able to play against Osasuna tomorrow after all.
I’m happy about that. And while I will let this issue slide, I am still of the opinion that bringing Villa into the game against Maritimo on Thursday was the wrong decision. He shoots and scores and we’re all really happy about it. But if he got injured during the last ten minutes of a UEFA Cup game, we’d all be very upset.
Hindsight is, of course, 20/20. Luckily, Valencia’s doctors (who are not known for being that bright) have deemed him match fit. Let’s hope they’re correct. Let’s hope what happened Thursday was just a small knock and nothing more.
One guy who won’t be playing against Osasuna … and for that matter, may not play with us ever again, is Timo Hildebrand.
Apparently, his issue with coach Unai Emery ran deeper than just being put on the bench.
When Emery decided to start Brazilian Renan instead of Timo ahead of the season opener against Mallorca, Timo told Emery, “Rather than being a substitute, it’s better if you don’t call me up at all.”
So that’s what Emery did, dropping the tall German net minder from the squad completely for the first two league games and then against Maritimo in the UEFA Cup on Thursday.
The Valencia board are understandably unwilling to let the issue fester and risk yet another blow-up in the dressing room and they are reportedly considering their options to have him off-loaded during the winter transfer window.
I feel bad for Timo. I think he could have done just fine here if given the chance, if confidence was instilled from the get-go. Now it looks like we’ve seen the last of him. I wish him well. Hopefully some reconciliation can take place. If not, that’s that.
So tomorrow it’s Osasuna at the Mestalla, who come in undefeated, having tied their two league games against Villarreal and Mallorca.
They’re a plucky, resolute bunch and I don’t think this will be an easy encounter, given our injury woes and Osasuna’s tough mentality.
Former Real Madrid starlet Javier Portillo is the star (most recognizable name) of the Basque team, but he’s not alone as they also employ striker Kike, Iranian midfielder Masoud Shojaei and Valencia loanee Sunny, who can’t play against his former bosses.
Still, this is a game we should win. I expect us to take the three points and continue our solid start to the season. With upcoming matches against Malaga, Deportivo and Valladolid, we could be in for a very fast start of the season. Cross your fingers. It sure would be nice.
Frequent poster and occasional Nevada Smith’s patron Timothy Lakefront has been asking recently about tickets to the April 26 match up against Barcelona at the Mestalla.
I wish I had better information about getting tickets. I usually get them from friends or otherwise.
Here’s some info I dug up that I think could be helpful to everyone who reads the blog.
Additionally, I’ve opened up a post of Xtratime to ask the forum readers what they think is the best way of obtaining tickets to the Mestalla.
According to soccer-spain.com, an English language website about all things La Liga:
Most clubs start the sale of tickets at their ground two or three days before every home fixture.
Generally, tickets are not available from anywhere else, and there is no way of obtaining them in advance unless you purchase a season ticket.
Normally you can expect to find tickets on the day, but for popular fixtures you may have to join the queue when they first come on sale a few days earlier. For certain fixtures, such as Real Madrid v Barcelona, it is possible that no tickets will be on sale.
Ticket office is normally open from 10a.m. to 1p.m. and from 4p.m. to 8p.m., and all day on the day of the match, though the hours may vary at each club.
Hmm, not the most encouraging news. I’ve heard rumors that you can purchase advance tickets from the Spanish store El Corte Ingles, but I’m not sure about this.
Anyone have any ideas?
Make sure to check the Xtratime link often, as they may come up with info quicker than anyone else.
If push comes to shove, I’ll try to annoy some people I know in Valencia to get you a ticket once we get closer to the date …
I hope that helps some! Good luck!
Now let’s get three points against Osasuna!

i greatly dout Timo ever said anything in remotely like “Rather than being a substitute, it’s better if you don’t call me up at all.” because first Timo cannot speak Spanish, second if there was anything personal then Timo would not have had to sceduled a meeting with Valencia’s goalkeeping coach to find out why he did not play. The truth of the matter aside from propaganda by Valencia’s management is that they could not see Timo as being on their side of the political devide at the club so they made sure “Technical” decisions kept him from playing and that he will out as soon as the Christmas transfer window opens. As i said before political affiliation matters more than talent at Valencia.

Hmm.., I agree with you Cesar I think Timo would have been a good player for us but he was’nt fully intergrated into the squad maybe cause he is German, I dont know? I really think the players did not make him feel welcome at Valencia. There was no real connection or effort to fully make him part of the team as a whole.

Fab news about El Guaje, but I still think they shouldn’t risk him. Let him start from the bench. If everything goes well, don’t play him!!! I think it’s time for Mata, Vicente, Joaquin and others to show their worth. Beware as Osasuna are tough bunch.

Oh and regarding Timo, it’s a shame but we need unity and positive harmony in the team. Unfortunately he is the last of the Tin Tin era or seen in that light. I hope that reconciliations can resolve things. If not, have a nice life and let’s get Toño or Moya.

Regarding tickets try Guillem Balague’s website. He has a tickets section.

why does valencia treat players like that? why would a coach not call a player for 3 games when he is better than the players tht r getting called up? thts stupidity…emery is screwing up bit by bit, i hope he gets his act together! hes a good coach but smtimes he makes some wierd decisions.
i think villa needs rest, and i rather he doesnt play him agianst osasuna.. is vicente back from his injury? vicente is like he has been glued with spit! hes soo fragile!!! they should make the broken glass stiker on his shirt i swear! i love the guy im a great fan of him but being injured that much,,, he doesnt even play to get injured.! hes pissing me off, its unbelievable!
dznt anybdy think that pablo is a joke??? hes should be playing at the likes of sporting gijon or real sucidad instead of valencia?Posted from

Glad to see Villa’s back, but I’m still skeptical about him playing tomorrow. Shouldn’t he be resting more?
Although, this must be said, Villa seems to really hate injuries and I bet he’ll play even if he’s not fit to.
The Timo business really is sad. It’s bad for him, and it’s even worse for Valencia. We need talent like his, even if he’s not exceptional-he’s still good.
I think Valencia hurt his ego, and that’s why he’s upset. Hope this business is over soon, whichever end it may have: the good one where everyone lives happily ever after, or the bad one, which usually is the case at Valencia.
@Ali-Pablo’s young. He’s still learning. True, he’s not outstanding, but Valencia’s aways been like that. It has players which are young and still learning, and then it ‘nourishes’ them and they end up becoming great players. If we start throwing out players just because they aren’t miracles like Ronaldo (ahem) or Ramos and start buying the good ones, then we’re not Valencia, we’re Madrid.Posted from

If Timo still doesnt speak spanish than he can blame himself, i mean i am dutch but I speak spanish now after spending 10 months in Valencia, its not that difficult. Anyway i hope they both play it honest and Timo will just try to improve and get better than Renan, who isnt that good yet either btw…
About the tickets, i used to get them jus at Mestalla, but I think the best thing for you guys to do is to go to the CHE UK group, they have members from Gol Gran who arrange tickets for the others and they helped me out for tickets against Barca and Madrid. I guess Murphy is the guy to talk to, Ive met him in Valencia alongside some others and he is the man for tickets so it seems…
Check out: http://sports.groups.yahoo.com/group/che-uk/ and sign in… If they cant help you, i either fly to Valencia or to Egypt by than, if its Valencia ill arrange something for sure hehe…Posted from

Hey guys greetings from Valencia! I´ll be here this weekend through the next before I head back out to Palma… that being said:
I want to go to the game today but none of my friends want to go, quite a shame. On the tickets front, I´ve never heard of you being able to buy tickets from the Corte Inglés… HOWEVER, Valencia CF has stores all around the city and you can buy tickets there as well as at the Mestalla (Check their website, they have a list of all the official places in the city at which you can buy tickets). Anyway, I´m off to try to see the game if any of my friends are in the mood, if not I´ll be at a bar. Happy gameday.Posted from

Good thing we won.. TOTAL Domination on the game.. from the start till the end!
now i think Emery knows that Edu-Fernandes is better than Albelda-Fernandes.. a shame that Edu is too old.. but he was so good today..
one thing i noticed, we created more when were playing with Angulo, Pablo, Mata, Villa, Joaquin.. all fast players.. so the system now shows.. so i guess a Angulo-Villa is gonna work for next game.. good game for Joaquin and Fernandes..

Okay, not a great result, but at least we won. They played a good game. The defense wasn’t as bad, although the attack could’ve been better. Renan was a lot better, and made a few crucial saves which gave us the win.
Villa was good, considering the fact that he was still unfit. If he was fit, I think we would’ve gotten a better result. Nonetheless, his pass to Mata that gave us the lead was great =)
I’m pretty happy with the win because we still don’t have a lot fo our players like Silva, Marchena, Vicente. When they’re better I think Valencia’ll be a much stronger team.Posted from
