Valencia Rolls On

By: Cesar | March 30th, 2007

And on we go to the most important game at hand, Week 28 of the Spanish League championship and a home match with Espanyol of Barcelona.

Valencia will need 3 points against Espanyol to stay in the title race, after losing to Racing Santander at home a few weeks back. Espanyol are in the running for European competition next season. They are only 6 points away from a UEFA Cup spot and will come looking for 3 points.

Vicente could make an appearance this week. That would be a big boost ahead of the Champions League game midweek. He’s been out about a month.

Chances are Los Che will come out all guns blazing, with thoughts centered on this match and not elsewhere. Why not? They’re not far off the pace and Barcelona & Sevilla aren’t running away with the League.

Old friend Rufete makes a guest appearance, playing for Espanyol. Who else misses his long locks and ‘devil’ shirt, exposed when he scored? (Which wasn’t often …)

‘This is a vital time for us with the Champions League quarter-finals coming up and in the league we need to push hard again because we let slip a game we should not have lost,’ defender Roberto Ayala said. I couldn’t have said it better.

It’s a tricky game, but not impossible. I look for Quique to push some of the starters out after 70 minutes or so, give them a breather.

But breather or not, if Valencia fancies winning Spain, they need this match.

Prediction: Valencia 2 Espanyol 1

So what are your thoughts? Let’s see who comes closest to getting this right … winner gets pride, nothing more. I have nothing to offer!

And on we go, taking the plane to London, the cab to West London, the tube to Fulham Broadway … Stamford Bridge and Chelsea on Wednesday … European glory in our sights!

I’m gonna go with a prediction of 2-0. I have a lot of faith in the Valencia lineup (hopefully we start Vicente,I love watching him play) esp Villa and Silva.

    Valencia vs Espanyol 3-2
Great match by Joaquín, Vicente and Villa. On the other side, Curro Torres, Moretti and Albiol played a rather poor match.
