Valencia are Confident and So Am I …
By: Cesar | April 2nd, 2007
Valencia are off to London today for their European clash with English giants Chelsea.
Although my stomach is in knots and I can’t seem to concentrate on work or anything else, striker David Villa is in a confident mood.
“We are all in really high spirits, even more so after Saturday’s win (over Espanyol, 3-2), and me in particular because I had a good game,” Villa told a news conference on Monday.
The victory over Espanyol showcased Valencia’s strengths up front with their quickness on the break. Winger Joaquin played one of his best games since moving from Real Betis in the summer and provided the cross for Villa to score the opener — his 11th league goal this season.
Villa set up returning winger Vicente and Angulo for the other two goals with slick passes. He is one of the players with the highest number of assists in the side.
As with the Inter Milan tie of the previous round, Los Che have the advantage of playing Wednesday’s first leg away and can draw on that experience when they face English champions Chelsea.
“As everyone always says, scoring a goal away from home and not losing is a good result. I’m sure the tie won’t be decided over there and I hope we return with a result that helps us,” Villa added.
“We are not worried whether we are classed as favorites or underdogs. We’ll go out with the same focus regardless because we are confident in our abilities.”
Recent play would indicate Valencia need at least a goal at Stamford Bridge, Chelsea’s stadium. Our defense has seemed leaky to me at times. Players like Didier Drogba and Andrei Shevchenko will provide a stiff test for the Valencia backline.
Let’s hope our heroes can snatch a goal there and play for the draw at home, much like we did against Inter Milan. We’re most effective when we can control the tempo of the match, when we can annoy the other team into playing to our strengths, much like Inter. Counterattack, defend, snatch a goal in London.
I’m confident … now where is my antacid medicine??

I wasn’t really that nervous against Inter. You could figure out the few spots in Inter’s side that made them vulnerable, and this helped me feel okay. But with Chelsea I feel a slight degree of apprehension. I think Valencia have the tools to get past Chelsea, the only problem is if they are used properly.
AMUNT VALENCIA!

how astute!!! You are Valencia!!!!! LOL. Seriously though I am looking forward to the game, my tickets arrived this morning and for your interest Chelsea fans and Valencia fans played a friendly on Sunday and the score was 4-4. Dont think I could handle a 4-4 tomorrow.
4-0 perhaps?!?!?!?!
