Vacation

By: Cesar | June 29th, 2009

Finally, the lads can rest.

Nearly a month after Our Beloved’s last competitive match, VCF’s six (sorry, 5 … Raul Albiol is now a Madridista) international players are back from South Africa and the 2009 Confederations Cup, ready to commence their vacations.

Congrats, Juan Mata, David Villa, David Silva, Carlos Marchena and Pablo Hernandez. Rest up. The pre-season’s right around the corner.

Who will be with us is anyone’s guess.

Four of the best clubs in the world are flirting with Villa. Manchester United, Chelsea, Barcelona and Real Madrid would love our striker’s services. And Villa’s flattered. Wouldn’t you be?

So who knows what’ll happen there.

Then there’s Liverpool striker Fernando Torres, who fancies himself a sporting director, as he’s urging current ‘Pool boss and former VCF coach Rafa Benitez to sign our entire roster.

Go for it. Just pay us what they’re worth.

Some Barca fan hacked onto David Villa’s official web site and pleaded for El Guaje to come to the ‘world’s best club.’

I don’t think Villa can play for Brazil as he’s from Spain …

Anyways, it’s the silly season and Albiol’s transfer was just the beginning of it.

There’s word that former Mallorca striker and current Fenerbahce player Dani Guiza wants to play for VCF.

The former Spanish Pichichi wants to play in Spain again. Should Villa leave, could he be an option?

“I would like to return to play in Spain,” Guiza said in Spanish newspaper AS.

“I’ll see if my mate Marchena can give me a little hand to play at Valencia.”

Guiza was speaking after coming off the bench and scoring two late goals to help Spain finish their Confederations Cup campaign with a 3-2 win over South Africa.

That was only Guiza’s second appearance in the tournament, but he made sure he made the most of the opportunity to impress both coach Vicente del Bosque and any watching La Liga scouts.

“I work hard to have minutes and I’ve had the fortune to score two goals,” he added. “It’s not easy to get into the national team, and I must thank the coach.”

I dunno … I haven’t seen him play in Turkey this season but all reports are that he was a dud overseas. Still, his numbers in La Liga don’t lie. His 27 goals in the 2007-08 Spanish season earned him top scorer accolades.

I’m sure he could be useful should he desire a switch. I’d still be more comfortable with a younger, hungrier option … like Negredo. But what do I know?

Oh … Panathinaikos want Carlos Marchena. Really?

Transfer rumors really do my head in … like, really. So I’ll stop there.

I’ll end this with a little diatribe against the VCF board.

I know I’ve railed against Raul Albiol time and again during his Albi-own-gol era with our team.

Still, Albiol wore his heart on his sleeve and LOVED VCF. He was a Valencianista through and through. Now that he’s at Real Madrid, one has to wonder what the VCF board is thinking by selling guys that WANT to be here (Albiol) instead of guys that are selling their maiden head to the highest bidder (Villa).

Look, I don’t profess to have any inside knowledge of the inner workings of the club. So I’m not sure if Villa’s mad at the club for not selling him to Madrid or not. I can only interpret his alleged statements to the press and his non-quotes during the Confederations Cup.

One thing that’s apparent is that he’s not happy with the entire transfer saga. I’m with him there.

But I feel like if he really wanted to stay here, he could have just upped and said, ‘I want to stay with VCF.’

Period. Point blank. We’re done and there’s nothing more to talk about.

Instead, we have this wrangling, this eye-lash batting and flirting with clubs all over Europe. We have his non-statements and his apparent resentment over not being sold to Madrid.

I could be wrong. But I think VCF would be better off sticking with talented, young guys that want to be here rather than superstars that would rather move on.

Ok, I’m off my soap box now.

Great to see the United States do so well before caving and losing, 3-2 yesterday.

Tim Howard. How much can we buy him for???

AMUNT!

@Johnnie Walker: No misunderstandings, I am not too keen on seeing Ballack and co. winning – I am not fanatic. I support many other nations I really like. Spain of course, bu talso Croatia (!!), Australia, Russia, Nigeria and Cameroon.

Man, I hope Kappa pleasantly surprises me. I’m hoping for the best, but expecting the worst.

If the kits look anything like this http://www.somosche.com/camiseta_larga_kappa-fotos_del_valencia-igfpo-53318.htm, I’d be satisfied. Since it’s from Kappa, I’d be ecstatic if it looks like this. We all know they’ll do something like these though, http://www.talkceltic.net/forum/talkceltic-pub/50478-ugly-football-strips.html .

    the backline:

    Bruno–Navarro–Alexis–Mathieu

Am expecting to see Marchena beside Maduro in center midfield, in front of the backline…

    They really were Kat.

Jiwonsi, Navarro is decent at best, his speed made up for everything he lacked. He’d be a good sub, we have good subs. We don’t need one that knocks out people. I don’t think fans will forgive him for that one. Marchena won’t be dropped IMO.

Max- Navarro had a good season at Mallorca, seems to have grown up. Valencia need Marchena’s muscle and character in midfield.

Kyle, you shout Offical and link us to your blog not the Valencia CF site. Sounds fishy to me… Just playing dude :D . Anyway, Moya should be Spains number one after Casillas, Reina, V.Valdez, Almunia(English, lol), Whoever, Sevilla, Athletico, Osasuna, Vallodoid, Sampdoria and what not have in goal. Still not bad. If Valdez gets picked ahead of him though. Escandalo!

I have a bad feeling about our shirts. I was looking at the new Roma and Torino shirts, also Kappa, and they certainly have looked better. I’m really curious what, next to the normal cut, they have done with some bat and all…

    @ Max
If they make it like your example, i wont buy a shirt, think its ugly as hell with the black sleeves!

Johnnie, Sadly Kappa don’t do good designs, Let’s just hope they put the logos in the right place. I’d say the only decent kit they have is Sampdoria away, mainly because of the colors I’d say. Still, it’s going to be absolute garbage.

    @ Max
I love the older AS Roma shirt, think they are one of the best on the planet. And they could do such for us, no doubt, but somehow it seems they wanna get special and insert a bat in the jersey which wont make it any better. Keep it simple, keep it stylish, thats what i’d do. But i fear they’ll try to overdo it and than fuck it up. Tomorrow at 10.00h first 100 jerseys will be sold (with authograph), than we’ll see… “Exiting”

According to lasürovincias, a quite reliable newspaper, Villa is just in negotiatons with Barça:

    http://valenciacf.lasprovincias.es/noticias/2009-07-01/villa-negocia-barcelona-20090701.html

And sport.es, a newspaper from Barcelona, says Villa only conisders two options: Moving to Barcelona or staying at Valencia.

    http://www.sport.es/default.asp?idpublicacio_PK=44&idioma=CAS&idnoticia_PK=625836&idseccio_PK=803

Progress for me. Would rather see David Villa scoring for Barca than for Real Mierda – and I suppose Barca has got more money left to be spent.

Barca rarely spend a lot on a player and it just seems unlikely that they would pay us 40ME in cash plus a couple of players.
