The Worst News Valencia Fans Could Hear …
By: Cesar | April 30th, 2008
There’s a bevy of news out there regarding our beloved ahead of tonight’s dull 2-1 Liverpool win over Chelsea in a competition we only dream of being in.
I could talk about former Koeman assistant José Mari Bakero saying the Trio of Santi Canizares, Angulo and Albelda were frozen out simply for sporting reasons.
Or I could touch on the fact that Koeman recently turned down the Mexico coaching job. Mexico DOES want to go to the World Cup, correct??
I could also speak about the official end of the Canizares era, as he’s announced he will leave Valencia at the end of the season.
But what struck me was this article from goal.com, not the most reliable source of news, but still a source.
I’ll post it here with comments following the article. To read the original, click the link above. Mind you, if you’re a Valencia fan, this article will scare the pants off of you …
Valencia’s economic crisis has meant that they have pulled out of a deal to sign Marcelino and look set to have to sell David Villa and many of their big name stars.
The problems generated by the previous regime under former president Juan Soler have meant that the club’s plans have been radically altered and stories linking their biggest names with moves are not speculation, according to AS.
Marcelino had reached a verbal agreement with the club after the Copa del Rey final, but last Monday the club’s new board advised him that they could not fulfil the promises he required and major sales were to take place in the summer.
At the head of the clear-out is Villa, who this week was linked with a €20m move to Tottenham Hotspur. That idea may have appeared fanciful on the face of it, but Valencia look set to be forced to let the player talk to the Premier League outfit.
Also of value and with many admirers are such names as Silva, who Tottenham have also been linked with to fill the left-side of midfield, and Joaquín.
Fringe players are to be offered to other club in a bid to raise finances with Nikola Zigic and Miguel leading the way, along with David Albelda and Santi Cañizares, who spent most of the season frozen out under Ronald Koeman.
The new Valenica president, Agustín Morera, has had lengthy talks with vice president Rafael Salom and sporting director Juan Sánchez and they are preparing to rebuild the squad.
News of the plight of the club will shock fans who have always viewed Valencia as one of the Spanish league’s big players, but over spending has allegedly led to major problems.
Gregorio Manzano now appears to be the favourite to take over the reins as coach in the summer with Voro admitting that he has no desire to continue and wants to return to his behind-the-scenes role.
I’ll be right up front: This article scares me.
Look, we all know news from goal.com should be taken with a grain of salt. But this wasn’t just reported here. It’s all over the place, including Spanish rag AS.comandValencia paper Superdeporte.
I can deal with us selling David Villa next season, bringing in a new coach and having a period of readjustment.
But this is above and beyond that. This is basically saying we’re in full-on rebuilding mode, getting rid of key players because we can’t afford them and blowing up the entire project.
From being a breath from last season’s Champions League semifinals to the depths of rebuilding this season. And for what? Shoddy mismanagement? Poor decision making?
Utterly unacceptable.
So now Marcelino pulls out of a deal because we can’t afford to keep Joaquin and Silva.
We’re putting all of our best players up for sale, saying we can’t afford them.
What is going on here?? What happened?
Is this pure rumor mill rubbish? Or is this for real?
If it’s true, it’s about the worst news we as Valencia fans can hear.
They’re destroying our club. First and foremost, Juan Soler, who needs to sell his shares in the club RIGHT NOW. He’s using these players to finance his stadium, then he’ll walk away with a fat cat real estate deal. In the process, he’ll destroy the club while lining his fat pockets … unreal.
I don’t know what more to say … things have gone from bad to worse this season and now they’re destroying our club, chipping the pieces off one by one.
No one cares anymore. It’s always been about the money.
But why do the fans have to suffer so?

this isnt so suprising for me.right from my first post on here ive slated koeman and the jabba the hut figure of J.soler behind him.if as rumoured it was soler that wanted the three gone, i hate koeman even more for not having a shred of backbone and saying no “go fuck yourself jabba”.soler has one interest and one interest only, the property deal.he is still the major shareholder in this club and is pulling the strings of our new directors.the amount of money that they will make from the redevolment of the mestalla is outragous, will that go into rebuilding the squad ????? somehow i think not.soler is behind all the problems of the last couple of years.

Hi, yes it is not just As, The Levante and Las Provincias also throw their weight behind this. The new Trainer (hardly likely to be Benitez or Ericsson as per recent blogs on this site !!) can only say what positions he would like strengthened and he will be presented with names he may choose from.
The most incredible thing is, is that they are dim enough to have a meeting about this now. The priority is staying in the 1st div. which is not easy with other teams fighting for their lives (Murcia v Seville o-o last week for example). To achieve this the team has to recover that fighting team spirit. How is that going to be possible with all the big names on the Adios list, no chance, the Valencia Board do not deserve support from the fans, because that is the only source for their money, whether it is via the Turnstiles, Shirts, Pay TV
and all other publicity sources. Incredible….AlmendrasPosted from

Whatever happened to the consortium of buyers led by Carboni? Perhaps some hope maybe that they can inject the club with the funds needed to keep our stars and bring Marcelino? (minus Villa if we could flip him for a good price)

Hi Cesar, totally agree. I read the Superdeporte story (don’t ever read El As, it’s generally rubbish), and I’m really disappointed as well. The worst part of it were two things: (1) That we’d agreed with Marcelino on certain things, then Soler changed his mind and changed the conditions of the contract. No wonder he walked away without signing! And: (2) IF Superdeporte is to be believed, the funds from the sale of players will go to the cost of the stadium, not be invested in bringing in fresh talent!! Sounds to me like someone is covering their own financial back. Disgrace.

Miguel also hinted on leaving.
Some real sad sh*t.
Soler finally ruined the club.ALl in less than 4 years.
Is he using the money to fund his health or what???

Any hope that Benitez’ll get sacked after losing to Chelsea and come back out of pity?

I think with the exit of those 3! there would still b a chance to get to the top if thy were replaced with players tht would b chosen with brain! As for the coach. i think we need to really bring a good coach cz only a good coach would get the best out of his players!

i didn’t read As and Superdeporte, but i don’t see any related article about this in any english language website i could find.
I still hope this is only a rumor, but if the article is a valid, that doesn’t mean the end off the world…

Soler had his mistakes but he gave money to buy players!! but the thing is the players tht were bought were 70% wrong choices!
M fernandes
arizmendi
zigic
with the money spend to get those combined we could get the likes of drogba and we all know tht drogba will be more efficient than those 3 in any team and in valencia!
They spend big money on players tht no bdy wanted exept us! or the other small teams! i dnt no wt will happen, i just hope thy get a good coach! i think a good coach is more important thn keeping villa and silva!Posted from

I agree with Ali, getting a good coach is more important than anything else right now in my opinion, even losing all the “stars” leaves quality youths like Banega, Mata, Alexis, Sunny, Maduro, Sisi et al that could develop very well under proper tutelage

Ali , Daniel ,,,,
the question is that :
ARE WE READY TO LOSE OUR PRESENT FOR THE FUTURE ?!!!!Posted from
United States

-

losing Silva wont be a good thing for present of future for that matter.
yes we got a lot of good youngsters, but Silva is one of them.besides Valencia needs to generate enough money to keep those youngsters. if we lose those players we might get less income with lower ranking and no european cup playing.

We already have lost our present. Say goodbye to Villa, Silva and Joaquin for sure, probably Miguel too. Angulo may stay, but Cani and Albelda are surely gone. Little we can do about that at this point, but what we can do is make sure that Valencia remains a competitive team by putting the talented youngsters into the breach and supplementing them with some key signings in defence and a Villa replacement

I wouldn’t pass judgement yet some sources are saying there really is going to be a real big clear out and sadly Villa is strongly tipped to leave. I think that Silva will stay unless we get a huge offer, im also confident we will have finances as Zigic,Fernandes,Del Horno,Abelda,Canizares will leave remember their wages will no longer be a problem. Does anyone think Tavano should get another chance he’s a great player yet couldn’t prove it because of the Qique/Carboni feud. Lastly im still confident that Marcelinho will be coach you must remember that Valencia put him and Mallorca in a difficult position so it could be a ruse. News is he will ‘probably’ be coach and Manzio is defintly off the Radar. Anyway Guiza in Villa out.

Oh yeah Edu might leave too.

I guess we won’t know until the end of the summer who is really out and who is in both in terms of players and coach.
The only thing I hope for is that Valencia doesn’t become another deportivo, or even worse leeds, like some have pointed out.

Daniel , “We already have lost our present.” !!!!!!!!!!
NO we haven’t , Next season we can win Uefa Cup , get 3rd in laliga , reach copa del rey final . it can be one of the greatest seasons ever .
WE DO HAVE A GREAT SQUAD we only suffer from a Coach position … will we get a good coach and sell all the good players ?!!
N.B Youngsters need time to be class players , Wenger spent alot of time with his players .
All our yngsters r out of the squad except silva, albiol and maybe Sunny .

The sad truth is as more Spanish managers go abroad, they will still our players from La Liga. Damn them!
