The Season Starts Today … Kind of …
By: Cesar | July 16th, 2007
The pre-season starts today, with Valencia returning to the friendly confines of Paterna to begin work on the 2007-2008 campaign. The year we win the Champions League? The season we celebrate a Triplete?
We’ll see.
Today, I’ll take a break from my usual whine fest to give you opinions on some of the interesting news emanating from the world of the Beautiful Game …
Item: Ayala to Zaragoza
Have you heard of anything so strange? One day, he’s holding up a Villarreal shirt, saying he’s a valencianista for life. The next day, he’s a Zaragoza player and scoring goals for Brazil in the Copa America Final.
Seriously, either Ayala is more of a mercenary than we thought (meaning Carboni was on to something) or he was seriously back-stabbed by his agent. According to Ayala, he knows nothing of the deal and still feels like a Villarreal player. “I do not know anything about this,” he said. “What I can confirm though is that I have not signed anything.”
This will sort itself out in a few days. But in my eyes, his reputation is a little tarnished.
He was a wonderful player for us, a true warrior in the back. But the drama surrounding his contract this season and the way he carried himself speak volumes of his character.
Remember, he did this to the club a few years back when he desperately wanted a move to Real Madrid. Carboni must have remembered that and in the interests of the club, held fast to his guns.
He’s gone now. A shame the way it turned out.
Item: Sneijder to Madrid??
So Wesley Sneijder might be playing in La Liga after all, with Bernd Shuster’s Real Madrid.
Should I vomit now or later?
Honestly, this would make me sick.
Of all the people I wanted on this club, it’s Sneijder. The pace, the vision, the goal scoring.
Apparently, we weren’t the only ones interested in the Dutch midfielder. The news is all over the Spanish press, with Wesley even making the cover of the famed gossip rag MARCA. This after news broke Saturday that Valencia might be back in the Sneijder stakes because of the inability to ply Lucho Gonzalez away from Porto.
My tummy hurts at the thought. But I’m whining and I promised not to do that …
Item: Ruiz Talks
In an interview with street rag MARCA, sporting director Miguel Ángel Ruiz let the world know that in today’s football world, ‘it’s almost impossible to play beautiful football.’
Wonderful. Looks like Quique’s met the man of his dreams.
How about opening your wallet and buying some players??
I’m whining again. Sorry …
Item: Valencia in 2011 Champions League Final
Well, at least the city could be, as Valencia put in a formal bid to host the big game in 2011 at the New Mestalla. Would be nice. What would be nicer is if we were in the game, defending the crown. What a treat that would be!
- Hey, anyone know where Stefano Fiore is? Is he still on the squad? On loan? In MLS? I haven’t heard a thing about the lad in quite some time.

I read in a report that even Ruiz doesn’t know what to do with Fiore. Nevertheless, he returned from Livorno, and waiting to discuss his future with Valencia. Obviously, the man is hiring a weak agent. I couldn’t find anywhere if he is currently training with the team.

I believe Ayala, but then again I believe everything that comes out his mouth. I think it’s all his agent’s fault.

Ruiz’s comments did seem a little odd - Valencia hardly play unentertaining football as they are anyway.

Call me weird, but I actually do think Valencia plays attractive football going forward sometimes. People overlook it, but look at how many Valencia attacks involve fluid passing or through balls and after a succession of passes, a simple finish for Moro, Villa or someone else at the far post. We don’t score a lot of scorchers from far out (Silva vs. Chelsea a notable exception), but I think our fluid passing build up is a joy to watch

yeah i read the comments of ruiz on todays football. somehow this guy has a point. but then again, the likes of valencia, man. united, barcelona (i hate to admit it) and sometimes even bayern munich.
we need to bring some new players in. definitely a defender. also a centre fielder who could help the guys on the wings to create attacking chances and scoring goals. someone who also can help albelda of stopping the opponents to take control of the game. lucho is that type of guy who could that work. not sneijder.
i’ve heard that QSF wants to play in a 4-4-2 system. if this is true, where does silva gonna play? i truly dont think that he can show his full potential in a system like that. this guy has been our best player of last season folks..we can’t afford to do these if we want to play a major role in la liga. we need silva at his very best if we want to beat barca and real. somebody please wake up QSF!! (again, sorry for mij bad english language)
AMUNT!

If Sneijder moves to Re*l M*drid, I, too, will feel absolutely sick to my stomach. Anywhere, but there, for the love of God!

If there are any sense in Sneijder, he should avoid that team. And I believe he’s better player than that. Even Totteham is a better choice than them.

Silva is great, but it will be a loss not seeing Vicente playing too… I guess if Vicente is fit, Silva will be benched, unless Flores will use one striker at the front, instead of two.
