Spain Euro 2008 and Awards Time
By: Cesar | May 6th, 2008
With Valencia’s season winding down, I’m going to be concentrating more effort on Spain’s Euro 2008 campaign.
That’s right, Euro 2008 is just around the corner! It begins June 7th with Spain’s first game against Russia June 10th in Innsbruck.
Make sure to check out my Spain Euro 2008 blog, hosted by theoffside.com for my ‘insightful’ coverage …
Many Valencia players should be there. David Villa. David Silva. Marchena.
Maybe Joaquin.
Maybe Raul Albiol.
Whatever! It’s La Furia Roja!! So let’s support them!
It should be fun … make sure to check it out.
On top of that, I thought it would be fun to give awards at the end of the season for Valencia’s players.
So, here’s the categories …
- Valencia Player of the Year
- Valencia Goat of the Year … in other words, worst player …
- Best Moment of the Season
- Worst Moment of the Season … if we get relegated, well … that might win …
- Best Game
- Worst Game
Can you think of any other categories??
Post your comments here or e-mail them to me and we’ll have a Valencia ‘gala’ at the end of the season …
Uggh … what a crappy season it’s been …

I agree with Bob, except replace puta with cabron.
On a separate note, great news about blogging for Spain during the Euros Cesar. I look forward to your enlightening banter.

Long time no post on here but i was nudged here by a thread on XtraTime.
- Valencia Player of the Year – Well…..David Villa? Really tough this one
- Valencia Goat of the Year … Ivan Helguera, i’d say him, but in truth i could name a host of players.
- Best Moment of the Season – Copa del Rey final surely? Just a great night and i was proud of Valencia again. Notable mentions to the 3-2 win @ Bernabeu, i was so happy that night and also the 3-2 win over Barca in the CdR semi’s aswell, all 3 are my best moments of the season.
- Worst Moment of the Season … Oh god where to start, Rosenborg 2-0 at Mestalla, 6-0 v Barca, 5-1 v Madrid, 5-1 v Bilbao, god anymore? I’ve forgotten how many times we’ve been pumped this season.
- Best Game – 3-2 @ Bernabeu and 2nd comes 3-2 v Barca
- Worst Game – 6-0 v Barca.

- Valencia Player of the Year – David Villa (though its champion of the poor this year).
Goat of the year – The team as whole, you cant blame such a season on one player.
Best moment – Copa del Rey win, duh.
Worst moment – the moment they appointed Koeman as manager, With the banishment of the three and the bangena soap following closely.
Best game – Copa del Rey final was quite good, and at least the team showed spirit there too.
Worst Game – 6-0 Barca, playing bad can happen but playing without a spine SHOULD never happen (take a look at Mark van Bommel for example, delaying his broken nose operation so he can play the end of the season and help his team, THATS the mentality we need, not that bunch of spineless women that played against barca).Posted from

I was close to putting Helguera as my goat, but I thought him taking pics with the angry fans was cool.. plus Koeman may not be a player, but he sure is goat of the year in world football, forget Valencia or jus la liga

Cesar, I’m glad to see your on the Euro Cup Spain blog. La Furia Roja’s the only thing keeping me going these days, now that Valencia and Osasuna are close to relegation. Intertops is giving Spain 6:1 odds to win the cup this summer–I put in a bet. I can’t wait to watch my beloved Espana break the curse and bring home a trophy–the first and only since 1964’s Euro Cup triumph. Regarding this season’s honors: it is a sickening exercise replaying this season’s horrific features. Be that as it may, here goes:
Player of the year: Mata or Villa
Goat of the Year: where to start? Helguera, Arizmendi (Madrid winner notwithstanding), etc.
Best Moment: cup win and firing of Koeman, and Angulo being expelled from the team–I apologize to Cesar and others who respect his desire, but I can’t stand the guy and his glaring lack of talent
Worst Moment: every waking second besides the cup winPosted from

Right on, Timothy. It’s all about La Seleccion for me now too.
Valencia Player of the Year: Villa (even though he’s pissed me off quite a bit throughout the season)
- Valencia Goat of the Year: Arizmendi and Helguera
- Best Moment of the Season: Firing Koeman and whenever we won.
- Worst Moment of the Season: As of now, Quique getting sacked and Koeman disrespecting the players and throwing out “the trio.”
- Best Game: When we recently won RM and finally axing Koeman.
- Worst Game: I missed the Barca match, so I can’t say much about that one, but definitely the first time we went against RM this season. That was a biatch.Posted from

Good stuff guys!
I’ll do a tabulation at the end of the season and hand out awards in the summer …
I kinda like Angulo BTW!!!

Haha. Cesar, although I have trouble understanding it, I know you have love for you Angulo. That’s why I prefaced my criticism of him with: “I apologize to Cesar and others who respect his desire.”

By the way, is there anybody in the D.C. area who loves Valencia and or the Spanish national team? If so, let’s have some pints and watch Valencia get merked every week and Spain underachieve despite immense talent.

Player of the year= Joaquin…
Other categories: Funniest moment of the year/season?

Best Player..Joaquin for his magical expertise. For me Villa is over-rated because he is too inconsistent.
Worst Player..Difficult to saddle any one person with this but I therefore pick Mora
Best Moment..Sacking of Koeman, glorious moment
Worst Moment..The news and treatment of sacking Cani/Angulo/Albelda
Best Game..The 2-3 win away against Madrid. The Copa was a good game but Getafe were mentally shattered after their fantastic performance against Bayern
Worst Game..5-1 loss to Athletic Bilbao. OK the Barca 6-0
was bad, but at least they had Messi/Etoo/Henry etc….Posted from

Best Player: Joaquin Sanchez
Goat Player: Helguera
Best Moment: Copa del Rey final
Worst Moment:Koeman arrived at Mestalla(it was the beginning of the horror)
Best Game: winning against madrid in bernabue
Worst Game: loss 1-5 against madrid in MestallaPosted from

Best Player: Silva – best of a bad bunch?
Worst Player: Helguera – you can trace Valencia’s demise back to when he replaced Ayala.
Best moment: Final whistle agaist Levante – everything other than survival was irrelevant.
Worst moment: Exile of three players made us a laughing stock.
Best game: Semi-final Copa Del Ray Second leg.
Worst game: 3-0 at home to Bilbao confirmed that this was no blip, just an awful Valencia team.Posted from
