Soler is Gone and Other Tidbits
By: Cesar | July 29th, 2008
The nightmare is over. The King is dead.
Former Valencia president Juan Soler (pictured with dapper dresser and former coach QQ Sanchez Flores) made it official last night. He’s officially stripped himself of any involvement with the football club.
HOORAY!!!!!!
His share package now passes to former rival Vicente Soriano, who has a few years in which to buy the shares. Unfortunately, ex-Telefonica president Juan Villalonga is now out of the picture.
“On three separate occasions, Villalonga denied having an interest in buying the shares of Valencia CF. We only agreed to transfer a few shares into his name so that he could enter the council as an adviser. But he did not own the shares nor did he have any interest in acquiring them.
“Soriano is the only one that holds the ownership to my shares and he was the only one who signed a contractual agreement to exercise a purchase option and because he had paid an amount upfront, this guarantees him the rights to the final purchase.”
Not the greatest news in the world, but at least Soler’s gone.
Finally, we can focus on the real reasons we’re here, football, instead of the muppet show between Soler, Soriano, Villalonga, etc.
He’s gone and that’s that.
Here’s his final comments as Valencia chief: “I have now completed my involvement with Valencia CF. I have to say a fond ‘thank you’ to the whole Valencianista family who has treated my well over the last four years. It has been an honor to serve Valencia CF. Amunt Valencia.”
Almost makes me feel bad for all I’ve said about him …
Ya, that feeling passed. Thanks for everything, Soler and may you get healthy and enjoy your life.
Anyways, we’re not the only ones happy that Soler is gone.
Former captain David Albelda couldn’t stop smiling after news of Soler’s departure was given to the squad.
‘Sincerely, I’m so happy he’s leaving,’ said Albelda, his pearly whites beaming in the Valencian sun.
So what does this mean for our former leader? Could mean he’s staying.
Personally, I’d like to see him stay. Again, I want the rumors over the player to just end.
Either sell him and let him play or keep him and see what happens.
It’s not like he can’t be a wonderful asset to the club. Don’t we need a defensive midfielder anyways? It’s not like we’ve been storming the transfer market of late …
For my two cents, he’s still the captain. Keep him.
Today’s July 29th. What does that mean?
It means I owe lots of money on various bills. It also means the return of our Euro 2008 champions: Raul Albiol, Carlos Marchena, David Villa and David Silva. Welcome back, lads!!
I haven’t heard anything new about Villa leaving in the past few days. Today’s MARCA has a story where Silva’s agent asked Atletico Madrid to make a bid on the player. But today’s Superdeporte has a different Silva story, an interview with the agent where he says Silva wants to stay.
ESPN quotes new Valencia vice-president and former star player Fernando Gomez saying it’ll be hard to keep the lads, even though Vicente Soriano said we’d definitely not sell.
‘On a sporting level, who wouldn’t want to count on them?’ he told Valencian newspaper Las Provincias.
‘I will do everything possible so that they continue with us, the president also has that intention, but we are going to wait. I also have no offer on the table, although I will study all those that arrive for any player.’
All I can say is: we’ll see. Stay tuned. My gut tells me the new management team would be out of their minds to sell their biggest assets. The team could be good this season, so why screw that positive energy up by selling our best players? Besides, wouldn’t the fans burn the Mestalla down if they sold the two, especially after the events of the past week?
Big-boned defender Miguel seems to think we’ll have a good season under new coach Unai Emery, who guided our boys to a friendly win over VfL Bochum on Saturday, a wonder goal by Edu sealing the victory.
“With this team and with the mentality of the coach, we will go far,” Miguel told MARCA.
“It is vital that we keep the winning mentality and I think that we can achieve some good things.
Everything depends on the cohesiveness of the side. We have to think as a team and if we stay focused then we will achieve so much more compared to last season. We have a great side with players who make the difference and I believe this season will be much better than last.”
It better be.
One last note.
Funny article on goal.com about how Spaniards are no good in the Italian league.
FIFA super agent and transfer consultant Ernesto Bronzetti said this in reference to Villa and Silva, saying there’s no chance they’d go to Serie A because Spanish players never succeed in Italy.
“The Iberian players find it difficult to adapt to Italian football,” Bronzetti is quoted as saying by ANSA.
“There are many examples from the past. We can recall the cases of Farinos, Mendieta, and Jose Mari. I can say that Silva and Villa will never come to Italy.”
So does he mean Spanish players or Valencia players can’t adapt to Italy?
Francisco Farinós played for us from 1996-2000 before moving to Inter Milan and doing absolutely nothing. He did play goalie against us in the UEFA Cup once, stopping a shot by John Carew in extra time.
Gaizka Mendieta was considered the best midfielder in the world when he was here. He went to Lazio after a failed attempt to move to Real Madrid, did nothing, was sent packing and is now retired.
So now we know. Don’t move from Valencia to Italy.

I am skeptical as well. Let’s wait and see. Times are different now. They used to say the same thing about Spaniards going abroad anywhere – England, Italy, Germany. Now look at all our boys in England. Give me a break.

Good Riddance to Soler.
I dont think its the Spaniards that flop oustside spain,I think its a Latin American thingy.
While some tend to excel like Ronaldo at Inter
Look at Redondo in AC Milan,Rivaldo in AC Milan,Oliviera at AC Milan,Kily at Inter,Mendietta at Lazio,Claudio at Lazio.
Also,I think the Italians find it difficult to adapt in Spain.Posted from

According to superdeporte.es; Barca is trying to make an exchange of players; Silva-Eto’o + cash, but as far as I understand, Valencia is trying to raise Silva’s salary and not to transfer it, I think it is the first smart decision of the new board.

just read that at solers leving speach he said he hasnt left any enemies at the club and his time as president was succesfull.
he also said that slim people like himself are better adapted to modern day living, koeman has talent and that bob knows what hes talking about.not.
seriously ive read that our new president only has the option to buy jabbas shares,if thats true then the big head honcho aint really gone has he…..Posted from

Angula and Vicente could be kidding around (I hope). There seem to be good vibes in the camp with Unai in charge. Marchena came out and said everyone’s happy. Albiol said Villa and Silva want to stay. Joaquin is happy. Read what Uani Emery said about the team. Our team. His team…his Valencia
http://www.goal.com/en/Articolo.aspx?ContenutoId=797920
“The idea is based on a mentality of progression, of always wanting to win…” Spot on Unai. The one thing we lacked for a long time. He talked more sense than all previous coaches we had in the Soler reign of terror put together. I think I love him already. I have good feelings about the team. Hope we can do wonderful things this season.
Amunt Valencia.

There must be lots of annoying rumours daily because the official site have posted this the latest. From what I can remember, the club never come out to stop any rumours with official statement.
I use translation engine with funny English but I’m just happy with the part of Fernando Gomez saying : “the Valencia Club of Soccer does not have any agreement nor negotiations to transfer the soccer players David Villa and David Jiménez Silva to any Spanish or foreign club. It is fully false. I have communicated clearly and officially to both soccer players and their agents the firm intention of the Club that both players follow in the organization and fulfill their contracts”.
Clear statement directly from the club folks. All the media should pay attention and stop spreading rumours. Well, we konw they’re kinda not true but it sure is annoying.

Hi, pickings from today’s papers for what it is worth.
Banega can pack his bags, probably burnt his bridges with the Olympics gig, no pre-temporada games or Supercopa. Either Abelda or Edu to go, no room for both.
Zigic,Arizmendi and Angulo could go in that order. We desparately need another goalkeeper but nothing is settled they are still trying for Mora from Mallorca. Valencia are offering 6 million but they want more they hope to improve the basket with Sisi or David Navarro.
Fernando still has his eyes on Etoo, but personally I think he is bad news. Barca doesnt want him nor does Madrid, that must say something. He has got to be acknowledged as king of the roost at all times otherwise he sulks. I remember the last goal he scored for Barca. It was put on his foot by the leftwinger and he just popped it in and stood there with his arms openwide waiting for the players to rush up to him, that is Etoo,
other goalscorers will go to the guy that fed him the ball. We have nobody like that at the moment, I think we have very good material that already know each others play they just need a good trainer to blend them together,so apart from the goalie lets get on with it.Amunt AlmendrasPosted from

I agree with Almendras, Eto’o might be a really good player but he is too arrogant, besides, i read somewhere that he wanted 9 million euros per season…. Who the hell does he think he is? I am completely against the transfer if we were to let David Silva go..

Yes it really does make you feel thrilled doesn’t it? Seeing them smile and laugh, makes you feel like the tornado’s gone and everything’s fine. Hope it is…
I don’t think Eto’o would be a sensible addition to the squad. Valencia’s known for bringing in young talents to the squad and helping them grow (skills-wise). Frankly, Eto’o isn’t very, young, for a footballer now and plus his arrogance is just unbearable. I don’t think he could ever fit in Valencia.Posted from

im really sorry for Banega.. i really really want him to stay.. he is a better CM than fernandes i think…
yea Fernandes got the tricks and all, but Banega is better at tackling and getting the ball from opponents, Barca’s game at Camp Nou showed that..

Hi, Just to remind you Valencia will be playing against Borussia at 3.30 pm Spanish time, it is on Canal 9.
There is supposed to be a firm offer for the commercial rights of the new stadium (Shows etc) by Arena for 300 million there is another offer of 350 million for the towers to be built on the Mestalla site. This has been offered before but at that time Soler did not see eye to eyr with the next shareholder (Soriano) so it did not go through. So if these two things go through now that is 650 million in the Kitty which will take the pressure of and let the team get on with football….AdiosPosted from

Hallo, Well the result was 4-2 to the German team. This is their 7th win on the trot, the last was 2-1 against Feyenoord a couple of days ago.
The first half opened with Hilde/Del Horno/Alexis/Miguel/D. Navarro/ Fernandes/Baraja Pablo/Angulo/Vicente and Zigic.
The Germans were pushing strongly from the start with 4 corners in 5 mins and the first goal came from them by FRIEND a very clever and strong player. Valencia got into the swing of things a little more but were always dominated by the German side (at home and with a German ref must have helped) However a good pass from Angulo gave Zigic the chance to head a goal, it was a good goal but I did not see Zigic do anything else useful. Of course the usual happened and Borussia scored again 2 mins. later, this was largely a result of Hilde coming late out of the goal and it was popped over his head.
They scored the 3rd goal in the 45th min.
2nd part 9 new players, Guaita for Hilde, Alexis and Del Horno stayed in then Lomban/Helguera/Edu/Abelda/Morientes/Joaquin /Arizmendi
and Mata. Much the same as before Valencia had 1 corner
and I think Borussia must have had 15. However Mata scored in minute 79 then Borussia made it 4-2 in min.
82, Albiol came on and the game was stopped even before 90 mions came on the clock. There were a few nasty fouls from both sides but not one card was given. I wouldnt keep Navarro in the team, he hasnt learnt his lesson with his 6 months suspension, normally he would have got a card 3 times. Well that’s it, it sounds bad but it was a good match and Borussia were an excellent side. Of course Emery changing 9 out of 11 players doesnt help, but I admire his courage to do this because thats what friendly games are for at this stage, not to win but to see all your players on the field and fans have got to see that..Adios, Newcastle next, AlmendrasPosted from
