So Now He’s Staying?!?
By: Cesar | June 19th, 2009
Things move quickly when you’re a Valencia CF fan!
One day we’re lamenting the sale of star striker David Villa, the next we’re hearing that Villa’s not going anywhere …
Unreal. Unbelievable.
Here’s the caveat: If President Manuel Llorente gets a big offer, he’s gone.
Something tells me this isn’t the final twist in the David Villa soap opera. Something else tells me we’ve probably seen the last of Villa in a VCF kit, one way or the other.
As Llorente said, “I can’t say that if a huge scandalous offer came in we won’t sell, but I wanted to put an end to the rumors. We have never been auctioning nor offering the player.”
Ok, an end to the rumors. But do we really believe this will quiet all the voices? I highly doubt that.
If anything, this will intensify the gossiping. Will Villa be happy staying at VCF?
What if Madrid make a higher bid?
What if Barca make a higher bid?
Was Villa’s ambiguous decision from a few days ago not to be sold and to stay at VCF?
Maybe he really doesn’t want to go and that’s why his sale was stopped?
And on and on …
We can already see that Villa’s agent, Jose Luis Tamargo, isn’t a happy man. Of course he isn’t. He just lost his commission on the transfer. But still, read his statement.
“Valencia, in the form of Javier Gomez and Manuel Llorente told me, as the agent of David Villa, that he was available. They said we had to sell because of the financial situation of the club and told me the conditions to finalize a deal. David has always been committed to the club during all the economic problems but as he is a world class player, we received offers from four clubs,” MARCA quote him as saying.
“Now, Valencia have contradicted things because they have said they do not want to sell the player after, as you know, holding negotiations with three of the four clubs. They are putting us in a very unpleasant situation and it is good for nobody. One must remember that David has always said he is happy to stay with Valencia.
“This is a situation caused by Valencia, mainly by Javier Gomez and Manuel Llorente, which has forced us to leave the market with our tails between our legs. It is a very bad situation, one has to think about the damage that is being done not only to Valencia but also to David Villa, and bear in mind the worst thing is that he is away at the Confederations Cup with Spain. It is very sad.”
I don’t know … I’m really confused about this all.
One day he’s off to Madrid. The next he’s staying.
What does Villa think? Is he willing to ride this out with us? Or will he be a malcontent and a locker room cancer?
And what does this mean about the rest of the squad? Does this mean we’re selling other guys like Mata and Pablo? Joaquin and Silva? Who stays and who goes?
Also, will we have enough money to buy new players? Will this stifle our summer transfer scouting and spending?
There’s so much to be read into today’s VCF decision.
Sure, it’s great that we’re keeping the world’s most on-form striker.
But now what?
“Valencia is a strong club and needs these types of players,” Llorente said. “Fans should know we want a team that can compete at the highest level.”
Sounds great to me … but where’s the planning and vision for this club?
I don’t know. Maybe I’m confused by today’s news. I should be giddy and doing cart wheels.
I just have a strange feeling that this Villa transfer soap opera is very far from being over and done with.
In other words, don’t buy Villa’s 2009/10 VCF kit just yet …
Stay tuned.
By the way, interesting analysis (in spanish) in MARCA comparing this sudden move to Gaizka Mendieta’s failed Madrid transfer of 2001. Take a look.

Oh and i think our real defensive talent is Alexis, not Abiol. If they were to sell Alexis i would have had more trouble with it.

Raul Albiol signed for Real Madrid. The transfer fee is 15 million euros. I have read this on one Serbian website, maybe it’s not yet official, but they never write bullshit like Marca and co.

Why cant we just accept 10ME plus Granero for Albiol? I mean Real would just pay 5ME for him (they have until the 30th of June) and we get 10ME plus a talented midfielder.

No comment. In my opinion Spain was a little bit better but, that’s football (soccer). Congratulations to Americans. Great succes for them.

Cause Spain plays with no wingers anymore and the centre is way to crowded to basicly do anything. Spain only started playing well when Cazorla and Mata got on.
And both Torres and especially Ramos were nothing short of a total disaster today, i doubt Ramos touched 1 ball right the whole night….

Torres showed how bad he really is . I would have put in Quiza at the half.
Fabregas did nothing.. nothing at all.
Xavi Alonso doesnt like running… but at least he takes shots. fromt his own box. i actually dont like his range shots.. he usuallymisses and ive yet to see one go in for the national team from that range.
Riera was meh.. Mata did more in 10 minutes.
Sergio Ramos is a poor ass defender.. who teh hell stops the ball like that in front of the net.. kick it away fool.
We had no excitment.. didnt seem interested.. no speed just cross cross cross to a team of defenders twice as tall who actually jump to defend crosses.
It was embarresing. But you know what this is good. get that bullshit we are the best attitude gone for the world cup. learn you can be beaten. Easily.. by crap teams. Maybe start taking it seriously. I for one never liked our new coach .. i think he is getting lucky off the work of his predecessor. But hey thats just me.
Best `players on spain today. Villa. Capdevila. Xavi.

Ill add Mata to the best list, he did more in 10 minutes then many others did in 90
Also Ramos is not just a poor defender, his crosses were beyond awfull today. In fact i think Spain might have played better if Ramos was send off in the first 5 minutes…

Well Joan did make the error with altidore which led to the 1st goal, so points off for that. I also agree about Del Bosque reaping the rewards of aragones’ work. Why didt he bring on silva or llorente? or guiza? And why did he sit so passively and watch everything unfold, he could atleast have shouted at them sometimes to wake them up.

Spain were playing with 3 defenders today. Not only Ramos was never back, he was ahead of Fabregas for most of the game.
Riera is usually good, but didn’t do much today. Fabregas disappears on the wings (Maybe cause Ramos had pushed him out?) Mata was the best of the wingers. Probably should’ve come on much earlier.
Xavi had a lot of uncharacteristic bad passes.
USA defended like hell. They also played a very physical game. And some of their play acting was pretty annoying.
Now lets see what they do against Brazil (Or will it be SA and the Vuvzelas?)

Spain doesn’t have a chance next year unless they return to Aragones system i think. They desperatly need wingers! the way they play now is predictable and thus defendable.
Put Torres where he belongs (the bench!) and play Silva or Mata out wide on the left and Iniesta on the right.

@ nithin problem was not Ramos being at the wing as much as what he produced while he was there. There is no use going forward if you can’t make a single good croos whole game….

I just realised, if/when we sell Albiol we can get Sergio Sanchez and Dabo, Dabo will be competition for Bruno for right back if we sell Miguel whereas Sergio Sanchez could be moulded into a CB plus he is only like 21…maybe that is what Emery is thinking??….backline…

@ Kyle. Maduro, Dealbert and Navarro for Albiol? I am not so confident about this. Anyway also hearing some rumours on Juan Forlin. Lets see how that story develops.
