Ridin’ High
By: Cesar | September 27th, 2007
Looks like our mini-crisis has passed.
Maybe Franky, the poster from Chicago had it right all along.
Valencia looked good again yesterday, defeating Getafe 2-1 at the Mestalla.
But before we go crowning our boys World Heavyweight Champions, let’s see who we’ve beaten:
- Real Betis, 18th in the league with 2 points from 5 games.
- Getafe, 19th in the league with 2 points from 5 games.
- Valladolid, 12th in the league with 5 points from 5 games.
- Almeria, 8th in the league with 7 points from 5 games.
We’re not talking about world beaters here.
But still, I’m not here to rain on the parade.
I think we’ve looked a lot better the past few weeks. It looks like Quique’s strategy of getting back to the basics has panned out so far. For that, you have to give the man credit.
I didn’t see the game (again), but read that Villa was all over the place, dazzling as always, that Timo let in a soft goal and that Silva scored, but didn’t have the greatest game.
Anyone else have some observations?
Anyone have ANY ideas on how I can watch these matches?? It’s pretty frustrating to blog about a team and never watch them play! Maybe someone knows where I can watch a replay of the matches online? Download them to my iPod? ANYTHING??
Now it’s on to Recreativo Huelva, 7th in the league with 8 points. We should win.
Why not, right?
After that, a midweek clash with a club in distress, Chelsea. No more Special One and a new coach (Roman Abramovich) should mean an easy victory.
Then again, we could be talking about our club being in crisis again in a few weeks.
*Note:
I’m writing for a new blog along with some fellow Offside.com Spain writers!
Corey from the Real Madrid blog and Ryan from the Sevilla blog invited me to contribute some posts for a brand-new La Liga new blog, Hay Liga!.
As the tagline of the new blog says, ‘¡Hay Liga! was founded in September of 2007 with the goal of being one of the major sources for La Liga news, in English. Most of the La Liga news is obviously in Spanish, and thus for those of us who want to follow the game, but don’t speak Spanish, coverage is, shall we say, lacking. Thus Ryan, Cesar and Corey, who are all established bloggers at The Offside will bring you all of the La Liga coverage that you can handle.’
Make sure to check it out! My latest article concerns our former national team captain, Fernando Hierro. Enjoy!!
And PLEASE, someone tell me how to watch these games. It’s too frustrating now …

Guy’s lets lighten up a little!!! granted we have played the 19th,18th,12th and 8th ranked teams. but you can only beat what is put in front of you. The hallmark of any champ winning team is winning when you dont necessarily play great. 12 outta 15 after 5 games, you offer me that at the start of the season I grab your hand off! It’s early, we lost players and we gained players they need time to gel, so 4 outta 5 is pretty good in my book. keep up the good work

Cesar, TVU Player gets you free access to GolTV and there must be tons of p2p sites. Here’s one: http://livefooty.doctor-serv.com that should show the Valencia games.

thats what i was saying. we should be happy we are the 3rd by goal defferencd … but really i dont think we are playing that good. our victories are against injured teams. teams without claws… Plus i was kind of wishing it doesn’t work out so good for Flores so in june he would be kicked out… plus we r always winnning 2-1.. and always scoring in the last minute. it is nothing more than Luck. we r winnning by Luck.

We now have other issues to address. WE(VALENCIA) need to FIX OUR DEFENSE. I have all the faith in TIMO HILDEBRAND, but our Defense is Atrocious(meaning awful).
valencia:
GP–>6 GF –>8 GA–>7 +1Real Madrid
GP–>6 GF–>15 GA–>3 +11BARCA
GP–>6 GF–>12 GA–>3 +9Sevilla*
GP–>5 GF–>11 GA–>10 +1(doesnt incl. UEFA Supercup v. AC Milan, or 2 CL qualifiers vs. AEK Athens)
The numbers speak for themselves. The Defense needs to be tightened up. No mistakes about it. Cesar, you like to report crisis? This is an volcano thats about to erupt and its headin for the Valencia club.
Call for Quique to fix that defense. “QUIQUE, ARENGLA LA DEFENSA YA!”

I don’t think the defense is atrocious, we just have new defenders that need time to settle together.. if you take Terry, Ayala, Evra and Alves and throw them together on a team they’ll be collectively mediocre at best.
We have Helguera, Alexis and Caneira (might as well call him new) that need to get settled into the back, and especially since QQ is rotating, they might take even longer to get settled. But once they do, we should be racking up clean sheets more often
BTW, Hildebrand hasn’t been bad so far, but each goal he’s conceded so far has been from his own BS, not the guys in front him

Franky, so QQ needs to fix the defense? So he’s not perfect???
I love your passion, mate. Reminds me of my times in Valencia …Posted from

Im just givin you ideas to write your next blog about Cesar. To me, its not that QQ has to go, its that it needs to be addressed more. and the stats dont lie. I know he can do it. It just needs to be somethin we monitor. Valencia has so much potential offense, but without the Anchor in the back, Ayala; they haven’t gotten the results like the other big clubs.
Around the league…
I’ll tell you somethin; Atletico Madrid, for the amount of $$ they spent and the names they brought in; the post-El nino era isn’t looking good at all. I think they will be the first to make a coaching change. Aguirre’s job is as unsteady as Tottenham’s manager Jol, in the EPL.
You think the board at AtleticoMadrid have Mourinho’s # on speed dial?
