Problems
By: Cesar | November 25th, 2008
Everything is going just fine with Valencia CF these days.
Or not, depending on how you look at it.
On the one hand, we have the best striker in the world in David Villa.
We have David Silva on the come back trail.
We’re in 4th place in Spain, a mere 5 points from the leader FC Barcelona.
On the other, we have a tricky situation developing between coach Unai Emery and Vicente.
Apparently they had a blow up in practice last week. What’s it about? Not really sure.
Maybe it’s because Vicente is injured every other day? I dunno …
Regardless, sporting director Fernando Gomez is meeting with both parties to clear the air and get on with life. Let’s do the same …
On top of that, Valencia travel to Norway this week for a UEFA Cup match against Rosenborg without Vicente and Italian non-international Emiliano Moretti.
Who knew Moretti would be this missed? Granted, the bumbling Italian has had his share of erroneous play the past few years. But he played a wonder game against Sevilla on the weekend.
Of course, he was injured. Maybe he exerted himself too much?
Vicente and Moretti will join the pair of Angulo and David Silva in the recovery room.
Also out of the match are Hugo Viana (who?), Nikola Zigic (why doesn’t he play?), Timo Hildebrand (poor guy), Iván Helguera (he’s bartending at Manolo’s) and Curro Torres (manning the stove at Manolo’s).
Emery has decided to select left-winger Jaume Costa to travel with the squad (who?), while Asier Del Horno is a doubt for the match.
Of course, we have a history with Rosenborg. They beat the living crap out of us in the Champions League last season, winning 2-0 at the Mestalla and in Norway.
So the animosity and the sense of revenge is there.
Now, word that Rosenborg’s been making fun of us.
Apparently, their Uruguayan central midfielder Alejandro Lago is giving Spanish lessons on the Rosenborg web site. He had some nice things to say about Valencia’s players. Check out the link for some videos of Lago’s peculiar sense of humor.
“Valencia’s players are infants who can’t endure freezing weather,” he says in the first lesson.
In the third lesson, the former Uruguayan international said our strikers were … not as manly as their players …
And it goes on and on …
I’m not telling you this to rile up hatred against Rosenborg. In fact, most of the humor, while peculiar, is tongue in cheek … it’s stupid more than anything …
But I do think making comments like this shows the mentality of Rosenborg’s players, staff, etc.
Basically, they’re very immature.
And why is a guy who can hardly hack it in the Norwegian league talking smack about us??
C’mon! Do something before you call us out! True, Rosenborg beat us up pretty bad last season.
But then again, who didn’t?
Let’s show these guys what Valencia’s all about … I’d love another revenge win against a team that loves to talk!
Thanks for spicing the match up even more, Rosenborg!! AMUNT!!!

well i have seen the videos of the player and he really seems good.his shots are too good so i guess we should make him the owner of that left back position. i do like his attacking too since he croses a lot! great player!
as for the ones you mention Ali, Well I saw those guys i saw them play one time and they were good though i can’t say i know them that well.

@ Ali,
going after Castro and Barnetta is definately not a bad move. Since I am living in Switzerland i have seen enough of the Swiss national games and Barnetta is pretty good, he is a midfielder tho not a defender! He is not Switzerlands best, than they should go for Inler from Basel (would be a great move btw!) but i think he is not a bad buy.About Castro, he is a german/spanish right back, already a proven defender for Leverkusen and highly rated in Germany. He has played a lot of games already eventho he is still young and i think he would be a great buy, also cause he already speaks Spanish.
But we do need a CB yes, and i hope we get one soon. Since ages i have been hoping for VCF to buy Fernando Meira, but that day will never come i guess…

What a game! Beaufitul win, elegant revenge!
And what goals did we score:
0-1: Mata’s “cunning” (ok, call it lucky) header
0-2: A masterpiece by Pablo, slaloming through defence and putting it in by the far post
0-3: Killer strike by Baraja’s left
0-4: Morientes’ unselfish pass to bedazzled Joaquin (it looked like it took him by surprise)All in all, four goals against a team that never got any real chance of scoring. Beautiful win nonetheless.
Now let’s beat Betis!Posted from

Boohoo, sad that I had to miss this game because I was helping with Thanksgiving dinner…BTW, happy Thanksgiving to my fellow American VCF fans.;) Anyway, I couldn’t have asked for a better ending to the game…as long as we won, then that’s all that matters!:D TAKE THAT ROSENBORG BITCHES!

It was certainly a great match and finally Pablo made an amazing performance! (to be honest he even seemed pretty good on the left side too). But let’s not forget it was only Rosenborg. But don’t take it so hard on them, I have many Norwegian friends and they have a strange sense of humor, they don’t see calling a person gay as an offensive joke but a bit like some harmless fun (sorta like calling a person a loser).
Anyway I hope Mata is alright, he seemed to have a bit of a knock in the first half and was substituted at half time. We really need him in the coming few weeks.

This was one of the best matches by our team I have ever Watched. Exellent win 4:0. I learnt a lot during this match: How tallanted really Mata is, Fernandes is the future european star! Pablo works harder and harder every day. Baraja is the same as 6-8 years ago-master. Morientes is anexperienced star and not selfish, Joaquin is a bomb and finally Emery is the best. I think we can be sure he suceeded to prepsre the team to such a difficult match and win(after 2 times being defeated
2:0).
I think among the players Fernandes vas the best, though he didn’t score any. He was struglling for every single moment and winning personal competitions for the team. He is a rising star of european football!Posted from

Valencia controlled the game and never really let Rosenborg into the game. after Pablo scored that top class goal Rosenborg fell apart and it was all Valencia from then on. Valencia’s smooth passing and quick movement gave Rosenborg fits. I think this was Rosenborg’s worst ever European defeat.
Barnetta is a good player and would provide good support for Villa, he would fit in nicely directly behind Villa in Emery’s 4-3-3. Castro i’m not sure about, it does not take much talent to be a good defender in the Bundesliga as disciplined coordinated defending is not a major part of Bundesliga football and the difference between Bundesliga and La Liga defenses and defenders is huge.I seriously think all defenders coming from Germany to Spain will struggle.

I’m so so happy about the result. Now, my Norwegian friend has nothing to say – been trying to get a hold of him since yesterday. Revenge is sweet, my friends. Hope all the American Valencianistas had a good thanksgiving. On another note, check out this jewel from the renowned goal dot com journalist staff: “Del Horno has been frozen out due to the excellent form of first-choice full-back, Italian Emiliano Moretti.” Are you f’n kidding me? Excellent form? Ese puta madre.

@Rakshit, cuz we already have the best: David Silva! Na, we should try to get a creative midfielder, but defense is definitely the priority, especially as Silva is coming back.

@Timothy: Agreed, although I think we should have found a right back first (as Miguel is all alone there) but when you get chances like this for a bright prospect and for less than 2ME we should take them.
And happy Thanksgiving to everyone in the US.
