Our Friend David
By: Cesar | July 2nd, 2009
David Villa is a coveted striker.
One day Manchester United calls, the next Real Madrid is banging on the door for a date.
Today, the hot rumor concerns FC Barcelona, who want the services of Villa for €40m plus a loan of either CB Martín Cáceres or newly acquired striker Keirrison, who we flirted with last year.
Barca are flipping their hair, batting their eyelashes and showing tons of leg to Villa, who even asked FCB on a date this week in his home state of Asturias, where FCB offered every thing under the sun to our lad.
This is a bad deal for so many reasons.
1 – We’d be losing Villa to a direct rival.
2 – We’d be losing Villa and get Keirrison, who is as raw as a player gets. The guy’s barely 20 and although he’s scored in Brazil, what’s to say he’ll do the same in Spain?
3 – Martín Cáceres would probably be a good signing, but …
4 – These are loan deals. So we develop them and then they get them back? Umm, no …
President Manuel Llorente says he knows nothing about FCB’s flirtation. He’s like a jilted lover, refusing to see what’s obvious to everyone else. Didn’t he see Villa dressing up for a night out a few days ago and question it?!?
As I’ve said before, if Villa wants to go, so be it. But let’s get what he’s really worth.
Loan deals only helps FCB, not VCF.
We haven’t spoken about diminutive winger David Silva in some time. How’s he doing?
Oh, fine … he’s flirting, too. With Real Madrid, who apparently want to sign him next.
Can someone please explain to me how Real Madrid is doing this?
They’ve signed Kaka, Cristiano Ronaldo, Karim Benzema and old friend Raul Albiol.
They apparently want to sign (now get this) … current friend David Silva, Xabi Alonso, Alvaro Arbeloa and Franck Ribery.
What the f*ck? This isn’t bad for football? When does this ridiculousness stop?
Look, I probably sound like a jealous f*ck and I know this isn’t the forum for it, but when they target Villa (as they did), Albiol (who they signed) and Silva (who they want), it concerns us.
Never mind that we play them twice a season at the very least. I find their signing policy pathetic. They’re free wheelin’, building a fantasy football team with money that’s apparently materialized from thin air. They’re obviously bitter over FCB’s fabulous season and want to make up for it.
But how? By purchasing every player under the sun? Next you’ll hear, they’ll be after LeBron James, Alex Rodriguez and Brett Favre. Honestly, when does it stop?
Anyways … what do I know, right?
Where would all these guys play, anyways? Will the Spanish Federation allow Madrid to have a B team in the first division? So Silva, Albiol and Benzema can play with Real Madrid B (Castilla, right?) and Ronaldo, Kaka and Van Nistelrooy can play with Raul and Guti in the first team?
Uggh … just stay away from Silva, ok?
Someone that DOES want to be here (you mean he hasn’t signed for Madrid?) is new ‘keeper and Robbie Williams look-alike Miguel Moya. (By the way, I LOVE the orange ‘keeper kit … )
The former Real Mallorca man was officially presented today and said that it is a “very happy and very important” moment for him.
“It is a day that I have dreamed of, because I have waited a year to say this phrase: Amunt Valencia!” Europa Press quote him as saying.
Moya went on to state that he feels “100 per cent Valenciano” and that he appreciates the fact that the club have continued to pursue him, even after a deal fell through last summer.
“They have come for me again and now I am here,” he stated.
The goalkeeper said that Valencia have “great history, especially in goal” and stated that with regards to Renan and Cesar, he has “great respect.”
Moya revealed that he has not yet spoken with coach Unai Emery, but that he has talked to David Albelda and David Navarro.
“They have told me that this is a big team and the truth is that I have seen that in the two days I have been here,” he mused.
Finally, Moya was asked about the futures of David Villa and David Silva, both of whom could leave Valencia this summer.
“[They are] very important for the club and for the national team. I would love for them to continue because with them we would be a great team, but in the end the one who decides these things is the club,” he concluded.
I like him already …

Plus they bought Ronaldo and Kaka for a dumb amount of money and they were surpriesed when Llorente wanted that type of money for a proven La Liga star in Villa.

I still think Madrids highest offer was 25 million + Negredo, cause they valued Negredo at 18M and didnt wanna go higher than 43 million. I assume if they’d offered 35M and Negredo they would have taken it. BY THE WAY, Llorente said it only would have costed Madrid 4 million more to sign Villa, so after the 829020 Billion euros you guys have to spend, cant even give 4 million more to the best spanish striker of the last years, than its just pathetic. Plus, apparently Perez was treating Valencia like a little kid, and we dont take that shit.

RM Cesar, Perez was trying to take advantage of us. He has this idea that he can get done whatever he wants cause he has money (well, cause somebody else has money, to be precise) and he often gets them done, as outrageous as they might be. He thought we were pushovers because we were cash strapped and tried the same with us. I suspect that is what caused Llorente to halt all negotiations.
Add to that the constant stories coming in the media ranging from plain wrong to completely ridiculous, the accusations against Valencia, cheap tactics a la the Ronaldo/ManU saga etc. Marca even had Villa in an RM shirt on their front page. I’ll damn glad it didn’t work out and you’ll understand why.
As for Barca, they haven’t done anything like this as far as we know. Yes, we don’t like the loan deal, and I personally wouldn’t want to take it, but they made an offer and we don’t think thats good enough and thats where it ends.

Well, did any of you were thinking what striker will we buy if we sell Villa? Its not that easy,if he leaves we must get someone that will be in some time as good as he is now,and we are out of options. So best thing is that Villa stays with us.And now with this stupid offers that seems like best option.40 millions for best striker in world that has contract with club until 2014,and they say we don’t appreciate him.Well they( Madrid) have Kaka and Ronaldo, let them score goals for Madrid. And Barca already have Henry and Etoo.So everybody happy.

Johnnie, we keep talking about how Benitez won the Liga with no world class strikers. But he had world class defense back then, with Ayala in the center. So he could afford to go for fewer goals as the clean sheets won him matches.
Our current defense, though an improvement from last season, doesn’t seem to be world class. And we know Emery’s style. Also, consider the firepower the other teams have. We’ll probably struggle to win with just 1 or 2 goals consistently next season. We need either a very good defense or a very good offense.
Davor, RM Cesar was trying to make his point, however misguided, in a reasonable way, IMO. No reason to pile on him (or gang rape as Corey said
) as long as he keeps things civil.Posted from

There are fans of Madrid, me being one of them, that are outraged with all this spending. The money paid for Kaka and CR is outrageous. Kaka to me is worth every penny the team paid, but not CR.
@cesar, you just can’t compare Kaka and CR with Villa; they’re both Ballon D’Or winners and they’re both worldwide icons, and Villa is neither of those things, even though I consider him the best Spanish forward.
@scarlet, I have the guts to show my face around here because this is an open forum, and if you read my comments wherever I post, I’m a pretty reasonable guy. If you’re offended by what I said, I’m sorry, that was never my intention, but don’t tell I can’t come here and share with you my thoughts.
@jnice, the reason Madrid wanted Villa, Albiol, and Silva, is clear: Valencia needs the money, Villa and Albiol were put on the market, and we made offers for them, plain and simple, and also because wewanted more spaniards on the team. Wanting the three of them is not a crime, and it does not make us worse than Barcelona, just because they only want one of your players.
@johnie walker, I agree with you, florentino made a big mistake when he wasn’t willing to make up the difference, and given what he’d already paid for kaka and CR, I agree with Llorente. I don’t think Madrid was treating your club as a little kid, perhaps it’s Llorente’s fault that the club is being viewed in that way.
everybody, I’m not here to insult anybody, I know you’re going through a very rough time, but doesn’t mean we can’t be civil
Take care guys, good luck

Cesar, I hope we don’t come off as insulting. I apologize if we are. I actually like the debate.
As far as comparing Kaka/CR to Villa: I understand what you say about them being Ballon D’or winners, etc. But Villa has done well in Spain and on the international stage and could be a probable future winner of that award. He’s probably the best striker in the world right now. He is worth more than offered.
I do think Llorente showed some guts in standing up to Madrid. Having said that, I wish people would offer more for Villa. I’m ok with him staying. But if he wants to go, he should just go.

@ nithin, thanks for the support, really appreciated.
but I have to disagree with you on the child treatment part. In business, as in every aspect of life, when you’re negotiating you’ll find sometimes that one of the parties in in a position of power, and that was Madrid’s case, because the club has the money; and Valencia were on a weaker position because they need the money, and have to sell some of their players to get it, so to me it’s just normal that in a negotiation both parties try to get the best deal, it just comes to agreeing on what the best deal is. So if Llorente thought Madrid’s offer was not enough, ok, reject it and ask for more, which he did…
So I don’t see how trying to get the best deal in a business situation = treating your club as a child.
Good luck

@ Cesar
No worries mate, we are reasonable people too, maybe some are still upset by our utterly ugly new jersey
Rough time aint exactly it either, i mean come on, whats all the fuzz about (imo). Anyways thanks for showing your side of the story! On Madrid, I think it might be good for Madrids shirt sales and all, but in the football world Real Madrid is making quite a few enemies, Bayern München being the latest. Plus they fuck up the market prices since now every average player will even cost like 10 million! But thats not all your fault, big thanks to Chelsea, Lazio, Tottenham, Man City, etc. But i guess its the way it is, i dont really care, Valencia imo will come back anyway, we have a talent for that! AMUNT!!!

@ cesar, I totally agree with you; if I were Florentino I would have paid those famous 4 mill out of my own pocket, just so I could see Villa on my club!!! I know Villa is worth more than was being offered, totally true.
And don’t worry, I have a thick skin, that’s why I come here and comment on your blog (BTW, I’m guest blogging on the RM Offside, if you could give me any pointers I’d really appreciate it, I’m learning on the fly here!!!)
Good luck

The Offside’s very user friendly. My biggest thing is just to write what you think and let people talk. It’s fun, b/c everyone has a different opinion on the club. And you have a forum to say what you want about the team.
I know where I am, I meet VCF fans here and there. Meaning once a year! So without this, I wouldn’t have anyone to hear what I think about VCF! So I’m appreciative of you and everyone else here … I love talking VCF, if that isn’t obvious already!

Good news from Italy: Moretti is in serious negotiations with Genoa CFC. Morettis’ agent and brother, Andrea Moretti, confirmed that there were talking and that there could be good news within the next few days.

Glad to hear – once Moretti and Miguel are sold, we can focus on Granero.

@Johnnie walker, thanks man, I totally agree on the jersey, terrible job by Kappa (what was your team thinking, you have to be 18 years old to wear one of their shirts!!!!)
I agree with you on all the enemies we’re making; but I think that’s just part of being a top club, you just can’t get along with everybody, that’s just part of life…, specially when you’re trying to create a fantasy team (and I’m being sarcastic about the term “fantasy”) as florentino is doing right now…

And so you know, when Albiol was introduced people kept chanting “kiss the shield, kiss the shield”, and he didn’t do it, so I’d say he’s valencia through and through, don’t worry, you’ll have him back after his contract expires…

@ Cesar
True, but with Marca making all stories like this, its just not the way to go. Business can be done with reasonable negotiation, sure that can be rough, but at least keep it reasonable. And Real Madrid surely plays some dirty games, but well that is also business yes. Not my fav, but it aint a perfect world.Btw i am a true fan of teamplay, having a team working like a Swiss watch is what should be the goal for every team. Pity most (wealthy) club owners dont see that! Thats also why i think we can do without Villa!
@ Nithin
you are right about our defense, and in any case such strength should return to our back line. But it seems Emery doesnt really care too much about that unfort., altho we have made some nice signings. I just wish we would buy a true leader at the back, we havent had one since Ayala “passed away”Posted from

Bad news. Just read that Aaron Niguez has turned down Valencia and will return to Rangers next year to finish his loan. Sounds like he wants to stay permanently. He has said as much last year.

@johnnie walker, man, even us Madrid fans don’t like how As and Marca make it seem like Real Madrid is the garden of Eden, that we signed villa, messi, and god, and all the nonsense they print, it’s just plain embarrassing…
@cesar, yeah, saw it on As.com during Albiol’s presentation, but then again I didn’t watch till the end, and now bob says he kissed the badge, so I guess I was wrong, sorry for the comment, but still, he didn’t look comfortable, and I totally understand him, I just ask of him to be a professional, nothing more

Hey all, I’m really trying to like the new kits but i just can’t. I was hoping that the 90 year anniversary shirt was going to be awesome but it was very disappointing. As for the black one…let’s just say that i would’ve preferred 100 times over to have the senyera kit than this black one that looks pathetic. I wont get into any of the rumors because afterall thats exactly what they are.

@Kyle I don’t know where you have read that about Aaron not wanting to come back to Valencia, but that’s not true. I saw him talking in a Canal 9 interview a week ago and he said literally: “I’m a valencianista and if Valencia calls me back I will do it in a hartbeat. Even if the club I’m playing with was playing Champions league and Valencia was fighting at the relegation zone, It would be very difficult for me to say no to Valencia because it’s my home”. So, If he’s not back this season is because Valencia doesn’t want to get him back yet.
