Old friends…Valencia vs Chelsea LiveBlog
By: dan_c | September 28th, 2011After seeing our wonderful run at the start of this season end in real disappointment against Sevilla, we meet the English giants who took a dear son from us just a few months ago. Lets hope for a repeat of the magnificent display that we offered when Barca visited the Mestalla a few weeks ago.
Which Valencia will show up?
My greatest fear is that we will waste chances. I have trust that our defence is manning-up nicely, and we can trust it to be solid. I also believe that our midfield can contain anything that Chelsea can throw, although the battle between Ever and Ramires will be critical in terms of who governs the centre of the park. My greatest fear is that IF San Rob SOl is shut out of the game we will really struggle to score goals.
And as we know the home games in the Champions League are vital, the teams that progress dominate at home. The teams who go far DON’T lose. Man Utd for example haven’t lost at Old Trafford for 17 months. Barca have an equally impressive domination at Camp Nou.
And we have already lost what appeared to be 2 easy points in Belgium.
Which makes tonight’s game even more critical. Any result would be excellent. A loss could really cost us.

The comeback in the second half was nice, but you could see us struggling a lot of the time because Banega just wasnt there. Too bad Tinos form isnt exactly sparkling either otherwise its a lot easier to fix.
Ad im gonna admit Miguel has been good this season so far! While im still not quite a fan i think at that kick under his butt Emery gave him last year but kicking him out of the team got him in the proper mindstate. Lets just hope it lasts and we dont see the old Miguel too soon

Blaming Banega and praising Miguel, sometimes I think some of you are just on a windup. Banega wasnt at his best, but Albelda was almost invisible. Did you expect Banega to take on Lampard, Ramires and Mikel by himself or something? 2 vs 3 is hard, 1 vs 3 is impossible. But luckily Canales was very impressive with his work ethic for the team and its not the first time. He did a great job with that against Barcelona too. Coming back and helping out like that is a great help to the team and its something he’s doing a lot better than Mata or Silva did in his position

Jafar, we have 2 very good keepers and we want to keep them that way. Remember we are in a period with Liga,Copa and Champions and have to play sometimes 2 games a week for six weeks on ther trot. To switch goalkeepers in this way is correct otherwise the one not being used will soon go stale. I go with the Miguel support it was ajoy to see him robbing the ball from the forwards so many times, we tried to dump him but we cant afford to do that.He even got a very good shot in that was only miraculously deflected for a corner.Mathieu wasnt getting away with it as he did with Barca so Chelsea had been studying the game,Putting Piatti in immediately changed the satyle and gave Chelsea problems.
I would have liked to have seen Fergouli on sooner than the last 15 mins, in that time he had two good shots at goal. Nine shots in total, 1 each for Miguel,Ruiz,Banega Mathieu and Soldado(p) and two for Pablo and Rami.
In all a very good performance. I see Lillo with his critical comments, hasnt mentioned Man Utd.In front 2-0 at half time against Basel and ending up 3-3, wonder what happened there? -
@Lillo i dont think im in a windup and i dont expect him to take on 2 midfielders (he wasnt the only person in midfield on our part by the way!).
But when he did get the ball his passes were sloppy a lot of the time yesterday, his shooting hasnt been impressive either (though it rarely is). So yes i think he had a bad match yesterday.
