Nou Mestalla? What Nou Mestalla?
By: Cesar | February 25th, 2009
As if things couldn’t get any worse with Our Beloved, word from Valencia today that work on our shiny, brand-spanking new 73,000-capacity stadium has been suspended due to our financial woes.
So what now? The infamous ‘mystery buyer’ of the Old Mestalla steps up and buys this piece of rubble?
Seriously, WHAT HAPPENED TO OUR CLUB?!?
Valencia vice president Miguel Zorio said Wednesday that construction would start up again when the cash-strapped club can meet its next payment to builders.
So like … in 2012?
“It’s not a paralysis of works but a postponement of payment,” Zorio was quoted in Las Provincias newspaper.
“When we pay, work will resume at the same rate as before. I wouldn’t call it a paralysis because some workers have continued (working).”
Ya, they’re called Valencia CF. Can you imagine? Poor Curro Torres is pulling double shifts at Manolo’s and moon lighting at the Nou Mestalla.
What started as a joke might indeed be reality … Valencia CF’s CV’s are being sent throughout the city in search of work …
The €300 million ($382 million) stadium, which Valencia hopes will help it land the right to host a future Champions League final, was to be ready for the 2010-11 season. Zorio said that was still possible.
Zorio also said that Valencia’s players salaries for February would be paid in the coming days. And my name is Juan Soler …
To make matters even worse, 98-year old Ruben Baraja told a press conference that expectations were just too high for this club …
Yes, he said that. Our former captain said that.
“The expectations are too high and it’s a shame that some of the players have reacted to it,” he said while slowly eating some warm applesauce.
“We’ve dropped out of the Champions League positions for the first time and everyone is already saying that we are slipping (You are, you freakin’ muppet).
“I don’t know how that can be said when there is so much of the season left, but it is almost as if people have been waiting to be negative. The league is very even and if teams like Villarreal don’t stop believing then neither should we.
“We know that we have been conceding goals lately, but we are trying to correct that without losing our offensive side because we have so many good players going forward.”
Uggh …
Did I mention our upcoming match against Dynamo Kiev tomorrow?
Match? We’re playing a match tomorrow? (More on that … tomorrow … )
When the off-the-field news becomes more important than the real news (the football), then you know we’re in trouble.
But then again, maybe my expectations were too high …

You know if we manage to eliminate Dynamo then we might face another team from Ukraine (FC Metalist Kharkiv). They already have the upper hand in the first leg against Sampdoria (1-0).

guys, have u heard the latest joke! fernando gomes is eyeing Mohommed Topal… a 23 year old player which plays in galatasaray in Albelda’s position! and he isnt satisfied with watching the player on tape, so hes actualy traveling 850 km. to see him play… and the report also says that Gomes is only going for topal cuz gorcuff Milan’s loaned player is too expensive for gomes right now… in other words Gomes loves gorcuff, Gomes doesnt have money….gorguff is Gomes’s wet dream!
So whats that about? i dnt have money to fill my car tand with petrol yet i go and plan a trip to vagas by car?

Ya basicly Soler got those huge debts in the first place…
Im a bit suprised by the Baraja interview, though i agree expectations are a bit high, last year we nearly got relegated and this year Emery should have changed us to a top side in like 1 month? With half the team away at the euros? Not realistic in my opinion. And firing Emery again sure wont make things better.
Thing that suprises me is he said were conceding goals LATELY. I mean dude, you’ve been conceding lots of goals over the past 2 years now! Thats not lately, thats one hell of a structural failure.

okay here is how i see soler, but please correct me guys if im wrong!
Soler was a major payer! he wasnt cheap at all! we all saw how much he spent on players Zigic, Banega, Fernandes… but the problem was with the choices the sport director made! i mean we spend fortune on players that didnt contribute to the team in any way!!!
When Soler wanted to build the staduim, he had a payment plan, and because we r not manchester united nor are we r. madrid, our plan was to pay for the staduim from the CL money when we would advance in every stage!
On top of that, our season sucked and we had to fire coaches which coast us couple of millions too!
So we moved to plan B for money to build the staduim, which was to sell the old ground and from tht money we would shift money to the new staduim! and during tht all of our previous problems are still effecting us ( bad choices of players to buy)… what happened then is the world financial crisi, which most wealthy ppl lost billions and stoped every thought of buying anything due to the fact that they lost a lot of money and they dnt wana gamble with whatever is left…
So the way i see it, and i might be wrong, tht soler was good but had a shitty sport director, and everything went against him due to bad luck, and when we had our way out of it, the world financial crisis happened and we hit rock bottom! So its nt like we didnt have money to build the staduim, its just tht our plans dint work out due to stinky form last season, and our plan B was crushed by world financial crisis,… talk about bad luck!
tht what i think, and correct me if im wrong! AMUNT!Posted from

Soler most stupidest mistake…..NO one will want to make an huge investment of 350M unless u have atleast half the money for it in hand ,then you can show mestalla as security..How did the dumb banks and the construction company start to build…i have no idea…
eventhough soler had dreams to make valencia a bigger club.He certainly didnt have the brains to make it work successfully….
ideally..He should have sold the mestalla back in 2007 ,when there was not such a economic meltdown and put in a clause saying, unleess we finish building our new stadium and move there mestalla belongs to us…
simple,we would have money in hand and wait for the ultra modern mestalla to complete…guys we all should be members of the board of directors for our club..i bet we would make realistic and practical decisions than these 50+ guys who dont know how to run a club…Posted from

Well Soler doesnt have a glass ball predicting the future so he could not know there was a huge financial crisis incoming. So i dont blame him so much for not selling the Mestalla in 2007.
I do blame him for a whole series of other fuckups though, so i definatly dont want him back!

@ Scarlet. If you are talking about the Armada Naranja forum, we are on it. Hopefully it will be fixed soon.
Yeah apparently Gomez is interested in Mehmet Topal from Galatasaray. Other Gala players that interest him are Arda Turan and Baris Ozbek. Also he is interested in Yoann Gourcuff at Bordeaux. http://www.armadanaranja.com/?p=88
Here is the problem with all of these players:
Gourcuff – We can’t afford him.
Topal – I watch a lot of Turkish football. I liked him at Euro 2008, but since then he has been GARBAGE. When everyone is healthy, he is a 3rd or 4th choice CM at the club.
Turan & Ozbek – They are both wingers. Do we need more of those?
Besides, who would want to go to a club who doesn’t pay their players?

@ Timothy
what ever you do in el Jardin, don’t buy any porro there, cause chances are you will get a knife on your throat and u lose your money. Friends of mine and myself have some bad experiences with that! But for the rest, during the day its paradise
@ Fayez
I wonder where Guti parties lately, either at some shabby night clubs with underaged girls or at kindergarden in the morning, both utterly digusting…@ Ali
Soler has had some bad luck, but you are a bad businessman when u get into a club with a deficit of 104 million, ending your 3 year term with over 300 million debt. Their original plan for the Nou Mestalla certainly was good, no doubt, and we have terrible bad luck with that and now see the consequences of the risks we took. Did we take this risk 3 years ago, we would have had no probs and now a new stadium. But, the thing about Soler is, that he is no true president. He does not know how to run a football club, and therefor not only made our finances an even bigger mess (Valencia always has money problems), he also created and increased internal instability with not having a spine and just going with the crowd. And thats the bad thing, he didnt put trust in our club, nobody knew what he was up to and he just did what the Mestalla-fans asked. On one hand thats good, but the Valencianistas want one thing today and the complete opposite tomorrow. We need a president who runs our club, not let emotions of fans run the club. And in that way Soler fucked our club up, we lost credibility, we lost fanbase, we lost good players, and we lost a lot of our character. For that i will blame Soler til the end of my days!
@ Scarlet
We could mate but the thing is, Seun is working on the http://www.armadanaranja.com and hopefully he will fix the forum on that site. IF that doesn’t work, we will either move to mine or move my forum to the Armada. Give Seun some time, so we can have everything we want (News site, Forum, etc.) at one place: The Armada
