Morning news: Llorente firm on keeping Mata and more

By: dan_c | July 11th, 2011

But first.

del horno Asier del Horno left Valencia today. And thank God. I was so surprised this morning at seeing the news. The fact that he even still WAS at Valencia completely escaped my mind.

He had a year left on his contract but it was terminated early today, and for good reason. Del Horno has had a poor 5 years at Valencia. Either on the operating table or the bench, or out on loan trying to discover a vague excuse for good form, he has provided an at best insignificant contribution to Los Che.

Bilbao, Levante and Valladolid have utilised him on loan since the day when he signed from Chelski. He actually gave Levante more performances last season than he gave Valencia in the half a decade he was on our books. I’m glad he’s gone.

Expensive and unimpressive. Bye bye.

Mata Update

Llorente told Superdeporte: “Juan Mata is not for sale.

“We have no plans to sell and we have not received any formal offers for the player.

“The news that has appeared in the papers is nothing more than speculation.

“Our plan this summer is to make our squad better and our priority at the moment is to sign a central defender.”

Well, the good news is that there have been no offers. We only have to cast our eyes north across the channel to see what money and options can do to a seemingly loyal, decent person. I give you Luka Modric.

Llorente takes a stand on the one player who’s future needs to be safeguarded to keep the club moving forward.

Ad Ad was also quoted as saying he had heard nothing from Athletic. Good news in my book.

New Training Regime

Emery has instituted a new law. Training sessions will only be open to the public and press for the first 15 minutes in an attempt to minimize distractions. His study and analysis of player diets will also be intensified to maximize “player output”.

Just another step in the total modernization of football. Good thing? Lets wait and see.

Javier thats exactly what i mean. Valencia won 5-0, obviously everybody was celebrating. I’m talking about the 1-0 wins, draws or the losses. Like Quin said correctly, Valencia-fans are mostly very success-dependent, as soon as there is a bad spell they all stay at home. Or even when it rains. And many if they show up, listen to radio commentary while watching live, which turns Mestalla into a cemetary. I don’t consider that being a true fan. They have a lot to learn from fans of Sporting Gijon, Bilbao or Betis!

Wouldn’t it be lovely if the Bundesliga standard of team support could be found everywhere? I mean, sometimes I sit down to watch games in germany simply to see the stadiums filled! Even when moenchengladbach were 8 points from safety last season they still got 45 000 plus per match of crazy, singing fans, and that eventually lifted them to safety I believe, or at least played a big part.

Piatti looks very good. Solid win I guess. Not much can ever be read into pre-season but a solid run-out against a side of competitive stature.

nice pre-season win .. i guess if we are goin to win more matches in Mestalla especially R&B matches & if we can cut the gap with them so that will be for sure very motivating factors for the fans to show up

Miguel makes you wonder where the “professional” in professional footballer comes from. Nice professional foul which might have seen him sent off in a competative match though

Yeah tickets are pricey im about to spend 1000 euroes this weekend for my tix.

But i dont know while i understand the whole roundiness thing i also appreciate the family friendliness of Mestalla. You see tonnes of kids from ages 1-5. Just tonnes of them .. and i would say its the only stadium ive been to in Spain where nearly half are women.

So no its not roudy and loud most matches .. but its a great outing for the family and wife.

Mestalla and Valencia are simply different.

Val v PSV…..A very boring 0….0 first half, neither goalkeeper had to get off their seat Pablo was playing well and I liked the look of Pardo, a good prospect.

In the second half, it came to life, Gaita had some hard tricky shots to save and at the other end Valencia scored two.The first goal of Piatti was really all his own work because he ran through the defence with his speed. Aduriz made a very good header for the second, but much of the credit must go to Fergouli by dribbling round 3 players on his run to the corner flag where he did a brilliant pass to Aduriz. I thought Fergouli did some very good work throughout I hope this year he stays with Valencia. The game was made irritating by awful Valencian commentators. There were 3 of them and only 25% of the time was given up to the game the rest they told each other jokes or spoke about the old days. So you are left to sort it out yourself with a lot of new players plus some from the second team and no names on the shirts. With a commentator that isnt even looking, it takes the edge off the game……Almendras

I dont think Guaita or Alves were tested in this match. The only bright points of the boring match were : Rami, Piatti and Bernat. I dont think Feghouli was that bad either, he had a couple of decent crosses and got an assist. He could be a good backup for Pablo if we dont manage to sign anyone.

VCF Fan Zone: Which Centre Back Would You Sign?
Valencia got rid of Stankevicius and Navarro. Now with only three centre backs left in the club the hunt for a new centre back to partner Adil Rami has begun. With several names being linked to the team, who would you sign ?

    Iván Ramis:
The 26 year old is the cheapest option available, and is considered to be a “plan B” if the team fails to sign one of the other targets. Forming a powerful partnership with Portuguese defender Nunes at Mallorca, he is also capable of playing at right back, and as a defensive midfielder position. Ramis has attracted the interest of several clubs over the past two seasons including Villarreal and Celtic. Ramis calmly scored a penalty against Valencia earlier this season, though Mallorca went on to lose the game 1-2.

    Alberto Botía
Another La Liga talent, Botía is a 22 year old centre back and has become an undisputed starter at Sporting Gijón since joining the Asturian team two seasons ago on loan. The player was signed permanently by Gijón from Barcelona after impressing during his loan spell. Barcelona have the option to buying the player back for two more seasons which would complicate any move for the Murcian. Despite the buy-back clause, Botía has been highly impressive at both club and international level, and recently won the European U21 Championships with Spain.

    Nico Pareja:
Pareja is another player with La Liga experience that has been linked to Valencia. Pareja has been tracked for a number of years now, after impressing with Espanyol before making a move to Russian side Spartak Moscow last Summer. Despite being a centre back he has a reputation for scoring long range free kicks, having scored a stunner against Valencia in the past. (The goal can be seen here)

    Sebastián Coates:
With Valencia scouts looking for young players in South America, the centre back position, which has been prioritised by the club, wasn’t left out. Javi Garrido, a Valencia scout, has attended a number of Copa América matches, one of them being the Uruguay against Mexico game with Coates believed to be the centre of attention for Valencia. The 20 year old defender currently plays with Nacional de Montevideo. After a series of impressive performances, clubs like São Paulo, Milan and Lazio have become interested in signing the defender

    Eliaquim Mangala:
Managala is a 20 year old left footed centre back, who has performed at a high level for Standard Liege over the last two seasons. He’s tall, fast and athletic, and he has been a fixture in France’s U21 side ever since he was just 17 years old, showing his great potential. It’s said that Juventus have been following his progress this season, so Valencia would have to move fast if they wanted to sign him.

As i recall correctly they are going to take their time for that CB, so don’t be surprised if it may take a bit longer! I don’t really care, i know they want a CB for the left side so i hope they make the right choice for that position.

Nacho Gonzalez and Valencia have terminated their cooperation by mutual agreement. He’s going to Standard Liege, which somehow makes me think we might have made a deal for their defender too. Just a thought, but thats something we see more often in football after such a move.

Get Coates. Seriously. We have a copa america thread on the united forum I post on and there’s a Uruguayan poster on there.
    -
    According to him :
“Very good, solid, has a knack for the big games and scoring when most needed. A young Lugano but taller and somewhat better technically. Awarded revelation and best defender in the league in his debut season, best defender in his second season, and now on his 3rd cap after getting his first one as a starter against Chile in the group stages (not the sort of match to improvise with a new player unless you think he’s got what it takes).

Btw, it has been rumoured that he is off to City as part of the deal made with Nacional (feeder club type deal).”
    -
“Yes, he can play the ball out of defence and is right footed. I’ve seen him drive Nacional forward and end up in midfield when they have needed it (i.e. knockout games when the clock is running down, he doesn’t hide at the back but takes responsibility, goes forward and pushes on).

Of course, he is only 19, but a defender doesn’t get awards three seasons in a row (the latest as best player in the league) without having something remarkable about him. He also has a pretty solid education and family background, which should serve him well when he transitions to European football (unlike the Tevez’s and Robinho’s of this world).

You can buy skill and fancy tricks, you can coach a lot of things, but there’s little you can do about character. Either it’s there or it isn’t.”
    -
Personally I’ve only seen him against Peru. But he was very impressive and an interesting player. Uruguay are a tough nut to crack defensively so its hard enough getting into the team as a CB at such a young age, but he also had the best performance in the backline. The worrying part is what the poster said about links with Manchester City…

I have loved this copa america. its a welcome change from the usual dominance and although Argentina and Brazil played below their usual level it seems the continent has become more competitive.

2 disappointments though. Although penalties can be exciting, it is just such an unjust way of deciding a winner as it bears no reflection on the quality of a football side or who deserved to win the game. Seeing many big games decided in this manner is annoying.

And come on! Couldn’t the fairy tale survive a bit longer. Seeing Venezuela in a final would have been incredible considering before this copa they had only won 2 games, total, in the competition. And they were knocked out on penalties no less.

There’s something I’m wondering about. I havent heard any news of any end of season club awards, do Valencia not do these?
At United every year we have a player of the year voted by the players, a reserve team player of the year and a youth team player of the year.
I’m assuming that if you did have such an award, Mata probably won it last season?

Nice of Parejo to say that we can challenge barca and real next year.
reports link us with a move for newcastle defender fabricio coloccini. strange one this, as he has been linked with a host of la liga clubs other than us, and he has just been named newcastle club captain. I suspect this to be no more than a rumour. good defender though.
In other news, happy birthday johnnie w. May today be magnificent, the year better than last, and the girls everything you want them to be
