MaraVilla
By: Cesar | September 25th, 2008
This’ll be a short post today. I’ll leave the prognosis to you.
But my initial impressions after today’s 2-0 over Malaga are good.
We didn’t play great. But who cares? We have the three points and remain at the top of the table with 10 points, tied with Villarreal.
If I’d told you before the season started that this is where we’d be, we would have signed up for it right away.
Also, what more superlatives can we use for our super star, striker David Villa?
Amazing, magnificent, superb … you name it, that’s what he is.
He is, quite simply, the best striker on planet Earth. And he plays for us.
Getting goosebumps yet?
Magnificent finishing, as proven on his second goal. Excellent pace and positioning, as evidenced by his first goal. Vision, tenacity, a willingness to play through pain. Dedication, loyalty, creativity … he’s David Villa … can we start a song with all these adjectives about El Guaje?
I see the Albiol-Alexis combination getting better and better as the days go on.
I see Joaquin looking like a lost puppy dog at times. He’s so hot and cold.
I see Manuel Fernandes disappear too often.
I see Renan never really being tested. Wait until we meet the Madrid and Barca’s …
I understand we beat a Malaga squad who’ve yet to score a goal this season. Ok, so it’s not like we beat the Dream Team. But a win’s a win.
Next up? Deportivo, one of our traditional rivals.
What did Unai Emery say after the match?
“We may be at the top of the table but there’s still a long way to go,” he said.
“We must continue to grow. I am only fifty percent satisfied with today’s result. The other fifty percent leaves room for improvement, such as attacking the opposition goal more,” he explained.
As for the game itself, Emery described it as an evenly-matched contest: “Sometimes we had more of the ball but they had their own clear chances and hit the woodwork once.
“Málaga have a great coach and with time and work they will start getting results. But we also have work to do,” he concluded.
I’m very happy with the way the team’s playing. What do you guys think?

I’m very happy too although the rather late goals playing against smaller teams worries me especially when we face bigger teams. Villa is a genius alrite and im happy that Albiol gets better and better everytime. He truly deserves to become one of the captains.

well, i guess Renan should learn spanish FAST! he never talks and this is a big problem.. he has problems connecting with the defenders and we saw that yesterday.. i think Joaquin in his bad form now is better than Pablo H. so please Mr. Emery, stop playing with that chicken.. he is getting on my nerves with his “trying to look skillful but i’m dumb” passes.. Albelda played some passes with Malaga players.. and i think Angulo was a bit more alive then el Moro.. and i expected him to play.. obvious that Emery will not say a good word about the team so that they don’t drop their guard.. he wants them to push more.. excellent mentality …

Malaga has one of the best coaches in La Liga and they played their heart out against Valencia. but in the ed the difference in the quality of the two sides decided the match. Malaga played good football but didn’t have the players to win the game and after Valencia recovered from a first half where Malaga drew them into playing at Malaga’s pace Valencia settled themselves made better use of their possession and won the match. Valencia need to improve in their ability to dictate the pace of matches and get other teams to play their football and not the other way around. so far Valencia have played good football and won, so to me Valencia is returning to its old self.

Still on top. Batman and Robin of Mestalla striked again. Defense line did incredible saves on the goal line or we’d conceded first. Villa is just being Villa, what can I say. He stated again that he’d like to stay with us as long as the we wants him and then finish out his career with Sporting Gijon. Love him more everyday. He’s our main man and he just got another 3 points for us.

I’m also happy with the way the team is playing, like I say before, now the team is capable to run for the whole 90 minutes, that’s why we have been scoring in the last minutes. We take opposite team by surprise when they are exhausted

Didn’t watch the match, so can’t really say how well Valencia played, but well, it’s good to see we’re winning more and losing less. Also good to see we’re at the top of the table now, but that’s not important now, because it’s still the beginning and well, we’ve still so many matched to play to be able to determine where we could be.
I’m grateful to Villa, very very grateful, because he sacrificed his career to stay loyal to Valencia, and I hope this year will be the start of the old Valencia. There’s no better way to pay him back but by winning more, so I hope we pay him back well.Posted from

Anybody still getting used to seeing “Valencia” at the top when looking at the La Liga table? As I think Javier mentioned, this is the way we won the league: by consistently grinding out results. Goal difference hardly counts for shit since its the head to head that resolves the issue if two teams are even on points, so let Barca and Madrid keep their 6 and 7 goal thrashings of Gijon, and we’ll beat everyone 1 or 2 nil when they drop points against Numancia and Deportivo

TO be honest I wasnt really impressed by the way we played in the match. We barely had any chances on goal and Malaga could have scored more than once if it werent for Albiol.
Im still not convinced with Pablo, you are right about Joaquin and his wastful moves, but Pablo seems to be even worse.Posted from

While we can all find faults i prefer to find the shine in our team.. the shine is a team that even while not playing flashy hasnt lost a single game yet.. and is showing they know how to play as a team. The defence though still shaky is miles ahead of last year. And there seems to be moral.. something that was lacking last year.
No more Politics.. and now its about football . Not what happening in the management office.
Koeman is gone. Soler is gone. And we are undefeated and top of the table. AMUNT VALENCIA !
