Mara Villa! (Spain 2 Liechtenstein 0) Euro 2008

By: Cesar | June 6th, 2007

villa_chilena.jpgThe lineup for Spain against Liechtenstein in today’s Euro 2008 qualifier said it all …

Reina; Sergio Ramos, Javi Navarro, Marchena, Capdevila; Xabi Alonso, Cesc, Joaquín, Silva, Iniesta; and Villa …. Four Valencianistas starting, with captain David Albelda on the bench.

It was David Villa who stole the show again, with two goals, including a Chilena (bicycle kick) as Spain defeated the minnows of Group F, 2-0. El Guaje could’ve had the hat-trick but missed a penalty in the dying minutes of the match.

In all fairness, the man of the match was probably our good friend Joaquin, who’s exhibited some tremendous form for club and country in recent months. He’s looking like a marvelous buy at the moment and one can only hope form holds for the upcoming season.

And on Spain goes, now in 2nd place in Group F behind Sweden, in the qualification zone with 15 points behind Sweden’s 16.

So the international season ends, their next game September 8th in Iceland.

For Valencia? Levante’s next. Two games to go. Nothing to play for. *Yawn*

Villa is possibly the most complete striker in the world. I hope he never leaves La Liga (Outside of Real Madrid as I would probably cry if he joined them)…it’s a shame that it is virtually impossible for him to join Barca…apparently Luis Enrique was his idol and I think he has what it takes to be converted into his successor…but I’m sure you wouldn’t appreciate that.

Villa should have had four goals to his name tonight. He did an awesome job. I love this man!! As for Joaquin, it was nice to see him captaining Spain tonight (considering his rant against the nat’l team haha). Him and Silva were the BOMB. It was nice seeing our Valencia boys dominate the spotlight tonight :) They make me very proud…
