Lack of Ambition?!?
By: Cesar | October 13th, 2008
Not much to report after Spain’s emphatic 3-0 victory over Estonia. I had the pleasure of watching the match with Timothy Lakefront at my local and good times were had. Thanks for coming, Tim.
As for our Beloved, the news wires are a bit cold. But here’s 2 news tidbits I saw bandying around the soccer news wires.
First, Real Madrid coach Bernd Schuster had the audacity to say striker David Villa and Villarreal midfielder Santi Carzola were ‘not ambitious’ because they refused to join Los Merengues in the summer.
“It surprises me to see Villa and Cazorla’s lack of ambition when they decided not to come here,” was Schuster’s rather blunt declaration to ’sports paper’ MARCA.
What’s that about?
Not ambitious because he decided to forgo the money and stay with a team and situation he liked?
Please. This coming from a guy who is your typical football mercenary, playing for Barcelona, Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid during his playing days.
This from a coach that ran Valencia city rivals Levante into relegation.
This from a guy who is still a card carrying member of FC Barcelona.
Please. He should shut up and worry about his club, not about ‘unambitious’ footballers like Villa, who only leads Spain in scoring and won the leading scorer position in this summer’s Euro 2008.
Villa’s obviously less hot-headed than I am. When asked by MARCA what he thought about the German coach’s comments, El Guaje said, “I don’t have any comments. I am not going to say anything about the matter.”
Good lad. Again, why is Villa getting lambasted so much over his decision to stay with Valencia? Shouldn’t he be praised for not running after the money during his career, unlike people like Schuster, who jumped into bed with any club that offered him more money?
I dunno about you, but I’m proud of our striker …
Anyways, Villa is simply brilliant these days. Valencia striker Villa, that is.
His penalty for Spain in the 3-0 win over Estonia Saturday was his 12th goal in 14 overall games this season with Spain and Valencia. He’s scored eight with Valencia and four for La Selección.
While he is clearly thrilled with his form, he admitted that it is not something that comes easily.
“I’m very happy with the way I’ve started the season. It’s the fruit of all the hard work that I put in every day,” he was quoted as saying.
“It’s not something that’s given to me and I must continue to work to maintain my form. I don’t know what lies ahead in the coming games but I hope I can avoid injuries and continue scoring,” he added.
The 26-year old has now netted 22 goals for Spain, tied with Julio Salinas in the nation’s list of all-time leading goalscorers, just one behind the legendary Alfredo di Stéfano. He will have a chance to equal or surpass the former Real Madrid icon on Wednesday when La Furia Roja take on Belgium.
Amazing player, isn’t he? So unambitious …
The second news item comes via goal.com, who say Inter Milan are interested in a swap deal to send us striker Hernan Crespo for midfielder Ever Banega plus €12m.
No, please no. Keep Ever. Let him develop. There’s no need for an aging, temperamental striker like Crespo on this club. He’s good, but he’s not needed here, kind of like Patrick Kluivert wasn’t needed a few seasons back.
Stick to the current game-plan and let’s focus on developing players, not aging superstars. It’s the right way to go.

i think old herr shuster is great,he is constantly on a wind up with the prensa.a german sense of humour is a finely honed thing and takes some understanding by those not used to it.in germany there are 38 different words for a sausage, thats not easy.

Did you guys see how Villa changed his penalty kicks lately? Against Estonia (and a few times before)?
He used to drill the ball just next to the left post. Regularly, without exceptions. For years. Always the same corner. Always by ground. I was getting paranoid and I was actually surprised how goalies never “read” his penalty shots.
Well, I’m glad he showed some variety

David Villa’s Agent & Man City Reportedly In Talks
Super rich Manchester City are said to be in talks with the agent of Valencia’s David Villa, currently one of the hottest properties in world football…
According to Spanish newspaper Marca, Manchester City are lining up a massive bid to persuade David Villa to leave Valencia for Eastlands.
Villa is in breathtaking form at the moment, with 12 goals to his name from 13 games in all copetitions, and according to Spanish football daily Marca, representatives of Manchester City have had two meetings already with the player’s agent, Jose Luis Tamargo.
The meetings have not been confirmed by the clubs, but Marca claims City are prepared to “pay a fortune for the Valencia forward.”
The paper adds: “Last Thursday, in a luxury hotel in Madrid, two emissaries of Manchester City met – for the second time – with Tamargo….The Sheikhs are convinced that a record breaking bid of €100 million will be enough to convince the Mestalla outfit that they have no choice but to sell David Villa.”
Villa has a buy-out clause of €150 million in the new contract he signed with Los Che in the summer.
But Marca also insist that “the player will not even consider leaving Valencia – a club that he feels a special affection for – unless the club forces him to leave.”
He recently said: “I will stay at Valencia for as long as Valencia want me to be here.”

We are eyeing olic of hamburg instead of karrison cuz karisson deal is getting hard to accomplish! i think olic is a great player! he is very hard working and has a very strong body! but valencia say they will still keep and eye on karisson! because zigic is going bk to racing and morientes finaly is leaving cuz his contract will finish in january! i think only then our attack will be frightining! villa wont b left a lone like he is now! mata is great but is not ready for big games due to lack of experience! where olic is very experienced!

Sucks that my computer is broken, haven’t been able to check the blog as much. That being said, it was good to see you Cesar – good times were certainly had. Good times – a little too good – that night in West Village. You should’ve hit me up. But yeah, thanks for meeting me. Schuster’s comments, as Daniel put it, reinforce why I hate Real Madrid and their ilk. Their constant revolving door of mega-money induced transfers makes me sick. Loyalty and uniqueness doesn’t mean a lack of ambition. When you try to take a good team back to La Liga glory and back to the Champions League qualification – that is ambition. Joining the richest club in the world, where you are one of many galacticos, to win La Liga, which is not celebrated but expected, is not ambition. Jodate Schuster – por que no te callas? Much love for Juan Carlos, by the way. Anyways, did anybody else swoop Fifa 09 today? Mata is a 74 and Joaquin is like a 76 – nonsense. However, it is a pretty tight game, and it will tide my over till Sunday’s game, which I hope GolTV will televise. Finally, Villa Villa Maravilla does it again for La Furia Roja today, god what a talent. Memories of his magical stoppage time goal against Sweden in the Euro Cup. An ambitious goal, I may add.

@ Javier: EA don’t know shit about Villa; Adidas does. In adidas live season; Villa has a 91.

what is adidas live season? it comes up every time i turn on the game. is it worth it?

qwertywatcher on Xbox live add me and lets fifa it up!

I should have bought FIFA 09 had i not overslept this morning.. guess it’ll have to wait until tomorrow. I’m not exactly sure, but I think adidas live season is a service where you subscribe for a particular league, and they update your players’ based on their real life performance.. so if Villa keeps scoring every week he might go up to a 95 and if Angulo contrives to play worse and worse he’ll sink to a 9

haha, angulo should be in the negative range. hope adidas live doesn’t cost money. if not, that’s sick.

adidas live season is like $6.99 per league but u get one for free. I don’t think is worth paying
$7 for someone to come to tell u that Angulo sucks hehe….Posted from
