ITS GAMEDAY! !! !!
By: Javier | October 16th, 2009
So the day is upon us.
The day we look forward to and fear every year.
Barca is comming to Mestalla.
What will happen?
Will we play the glorious game that we saw last season.
Will Barca create magic and have a goal fiesta in our castle.
Well i hope not. It has been a rough few weeks for los che.
First Fernandes re-injures himself, followed by Villa our star goal scorer right when he was on a scoring streak. Then our devil Marchena also injures himself.
Lets go on. Joaquin, Vicente, Del Horno… ect ect ect.
Thank Goodness Spain has free healthcare. Imagine the medical bills.
So will we be destroyed?
Will the Murcielagos be beaten in their home?
I dont think so.
While Barcelona are a great team they have had their share of bumps and bruises as well. Ibra can play but recieved a nasty bruised knee. Henri is out and on the injury list. Messi was suffering from exhaustion after a rough international duty but should be deemed fit to play if not 100%.
Dont get me wrong. By no means is Barca weak. But they have shown in the Almeria match that even in Barcelona they can be held down. And there is no reason in Mestalla they can be held down.. then beaten.
We have a great team. Zigic has been scoring. The rumour is Villa could play. Mata was brilliant for la Furia Roja the last two games. Silva is also scoring. Pablo has proven he is a great starter on the wing. Our defence is all in tact. Well as in tact as Mathieu can be considered. Banega is on fire. Cesar is brilliant in net.
Valencia are a great team. And if that great team clicks then Barcelona should be worried. Ive seen Barcelona without Messi.. and they are half the team. If Messi doesnt play neither does Barca. And if Messi does play and he is exhausted.. then lets make them pay.
Come On Mathieu! Show us the best defender in France!
So let me do the tear down of the best team in the world right now.
In Goal:
Valdes.. well im not a big fan of Valdes. I dont think he is that great a goalie. What he has is Puyol and Marquez in front of him making sure that no sure shots get taken. Cesar is better.
Defence:
Alves. Good attacker poor defender. Leaves his Right Back open often. Just perfect for our man Mata to tear in and give a ball to Silva or Zigic or Villa.
Puyol and Pique: Puyol is a great defender.. and the man to beat. A man like Villa or Silva can beat him. Zigic.. well he’s about 4 feet taller than him. Pique is not so short.. but also not so good with his feet.
Abidal: Im not impressed by the guy.. but he is fast. I just think Pablo can beat him a few times and make a big play.
Midfield:
Iniesta Toure Xavi : A great combo. However Iniesta has not been himself lately and Toure can be very hot and cold. Expect Busquetes subbed in who is even worse and takes alot of wastefull long shots. Xavi is by far their best playmaker and must be shut down by Banega which is a very tall order. But if anyone can do it its him. Losing Marchena is going to be very painfull if we dont step up in central mid.
Forward:
Keita, Ibra, Messi: Keita is certainly not as good as Henri. Ibra is a poacher but needs somebody to set him up. He does not finese through defences well. Messi is god and we have to pray that we can stop him by any means necesary. Defence will be key. Lets hope Messi is indeed worn out from international duty. We need every advantage we can get.
So what do i think will happen. Well no idea. Im hoping for a Victory for Valencia. Its a tall order but i know that we do have a team that can beat Barcelona on the right day. Im just hoping that this is the day we do.
Barcelona are not invincible… they are only the best.
But remember last year they were also more or less the exact same team. And we had them beat until 7 minutes from the whistle.
Then again.. a tie wouldnt hurt. Wouldnt hurt if Villa made a miracle recovery either.
I dont think we will get blown out.
If Valencia lose they will have played a solid game. My prediction. Valencia 1-1 Barcelona Barcelona will score in the 98th minute. They always add way too much time if Madrid or Barca are losing.
Hey some fun facts. The last time Ibra was in Valencia this happened.
And here is a very nice highlight of last year in case you need a refreshing memory of how we treated Barcelona the last time they visited.

Villa had this to say about his Ballon D’or nomination
“I’m happy because it’s another year and I think this is now a few [nominations] in a row, and also happy because I think that even though it’s my name there, this is a collective award for everyone because all my team-mates have helped me to be there,” said Villa.

VCF bought Alfonso Solorio from CD Guadalajara. He is the
captain of the Mexican U-15 side. He can play in defense or
midfield, and has been compared to Rafael Márquez.

-

So he’s a good boxer? Excellent

-

Kyle , for the fun of it, why not of we could! plus its gona give our players unlimited confidence and other teasm will fear us!
@Lilo i think if our three were in a mood to play, they can be world class. i personaly think our defence are world class defenders, but where is the tactics? pass tht question to emery if u could.

-

ALRIGHT RUBEN KAZAN!!!!! AMUNT! You really showed those Barca bastards how to play football and at their fuckin Camp Nou!

-

Apparently, Manchester United are interesting in buying David Silva. Well, Ŀillo, it seems that you (since you like to use “you” when you refer yourself to Manchester United) cannot kept your nose out of David Silva even though he is a second class player.
Well, I guess that it is better to have a David Silva rather than Park, Valencia or Giggs.
You said once:”Giggs is more fitted to be winger than Silva” True, but Silva is better athletically and creates a lot of through balls.
Anyway, Silva is a bet. He plays well with Spain, and inconsistently with Valencia. I think the playing system must fit his style of play.

Srry, I know this is a Valencia blog but I have to point out that one of the regulars here “fayez” is an absolutely pathetic individual. He NEVER posts on the barca blog, but shows up when we lose.

adimente – To be honest, we have Adem Ljajic coming over after christmas and his style of play reminds me a lot of Silva. Being the club that we are, that gives youth lots of chances, I’m not entirely sure that we didnt give up on Silva after we went in for him after the euros and buy a young prospect with immaculate talent who could offer us something similar, when we bought him last jan. He’s 18 and has been on loan in Serbia, but his signing reminds me of the Cristiano Ronaldo deal. The only real difference with him and Silva is that Ljajic is right footed – but he plays on the left wing for Partizan, so. The stories have continued because, well I can only speak for the fans I know, but on a forum I post on there’s usually a flavor of the month, or two or three. Last season everyone was going on about Ribery, now its Silva’s turn. The English press do read forums though, they sometimes even quote them. And seeing a thread about David Silva on a manchester united forum does a sports journalist from The Sun’s work for him.
As for Silva or Giggs, Giggs has been our best winger this season, possibly best player and cemented his place in the side once again. When a player does that and takes you to the top of the league, nothing else really needs to be said, but he’s managed 5 assists and a goal along the way. The only thing is, he obviously cant keep that up year after year. But there are obviously better options out there than David Silva as our new left winger. And do you get lots of through balls when Silva plays on the left wing? Not really. He needs to play from the middle of the park and its most difficult for him to get good positions coming in off the left, rather than playing in the hole or coming in off the right. As well we’d miss Giggs’ delivery, because Silva’s chipped crosses never really look likely to damage. He has been in good scoring form for Spain though so credit where its due, his form has picked up at least for country. But having signed Valencia in the summer, the last thing we need to do is sign another winger who wont hold down the place we’re signing him to fill. We currently have 6 first team wingers with Ljajic, one of the best young talents in europe, joining them after christmas. So really the first step to Silva coming would be selling wingers. When that happens this story becomes more likely.

Oh and El Ray, you think your defenders are world class? … wow.

-

@ Lillo: John Barnes picked up a job yet? (yes i’m Jamaican)… wouldn’t mind seeing him back w/ our national team

-

Dont think he has, no. But if Benitez loses his 5th match in a row, a derby match against Manchester United this weekend, he could be filling the hotseat at Liverpool
… A bit more likely it’ll be Klinsmann though.

-

@Cule: you seriously made me laugh!
awesome stuff Fayez! hahahaha!

-

Lillo u reckon the ‘05 champions league Euphoria is wearing off over @ Anfield huh? although he is an ex-Liverpool player, i don’t think our American friends are giving serious consideration to Johnny boy… Hicks and co. seemed to have had the hots for Klinsi from the moment they took over… I wouldn’t mind seeing Klinsmann at Valencia, but sadly we can’t afford him

-

plus Unai is not doing to badly either, despite what some others on here might think, i think he’s learning and growing as a coach… the reality is that we can’t afford anyone “better” and he’s doing the best he can right now…

I agree with that. And the upside to this is, Emery is the second youngest manager in la liga, isnt he? That would be behind Pep. So while he’s certainly made his errors, he certainly hasnt done a bad job and he’ll only improve with the more experience he gets. Now lets say he progresses well and leads you towards where you want to go in the next couple of seasons, back into the champions league and able to compete for the title to an extent. If it goes to plan like that, you then have a manager who A) can stick with the club for a long, long time like a Wenger or a Ferguson and B) because Valencia gave him his big break at a famous club, he’ll most likely want to stick around a long time. There are many positives to Emery being in charge. Its just never going to be plain sailing, especially with the off the field drama and financial constraints. Its easy to say “Rafa would have done this differently and would do a much better job” and such, but having lost as many games as he’s won with Liverpool this season, maybe thats not the case anymore. Klinsmann had something similar to Emery with Bayern, where he came in and wanted to do things his way and then they got rid of him, like some have wanted to get rid of Emery. So even these other managers who are linked with the top clubs dont usually come with immaculate records where they’ve succeeded at all clubs better than Emery has at Almeria and Valencia so far. Everyone just needs to have faith that over a period of 3 or 5 years, Emery will take you in the right direction, learning all the time and that there will be a pay off if you are patient with him and realistic with your expectations in the short term.

-

lillo if you know anything about football you must agree with me. valencia has better attack than man u. the defenders isnt world class. except miguel in his goood days. silva against barca was very good except the miss chance with the right foot. man u cant buy silva beacuse silva cost at least 50 mil.he has everything. and a player cant play again and agian perfect. and if team plays in some matches bad is difficult for a player to play perfect.

-

Spot on Lillo… I think sticking with Emery is our best bet right now. something Bayern should have done with Klinsmann. They didn’t allow him the latitude to fully implement his strategies and got rid of him all because of off field issues and from the look of things they don’t seem to be SIGNIFICANTLY better for cutting him loose.

-

It seems that Lillo is the center of attention!Anyway, Kyle your website is well made and it has allowed me to know more about Sunny; a player that I have been to know more about, but the circumstances have never allowed me to.
I feel sorry for the young one as he did not have a lot of chance with Osasuna. However, he is playing with the first team. Well, I hope Valencia recognize his talents or else, Real Madrid will come knocking and it going to be too late.

Amunt Fayez lol

Aimar we just sold a player for a world record fee. Of course we could spend 50 million euros on Silva if we wanted to, that isnt an issue. But Sir Alex was keen to point out that he doesnt want to overspend on players just because he has lots of money to play with, so something as ridiculous as 50 million euros for Silva is very unlikely. We sit top of the league even without spending it. Alright, we arent one of the top favourites for the champions league, so there’s room for improvement for sure, but Silva doesnt really tick any of the boxes to improve what we already have. Silva has everything and nothing at all depending on the day. His inconsistancy is a big issue, regardless of what he’s capable of. Other players could improve us more. In fact, if we want more creativity from central midfield, Banega would be a better signing. If we want some quality on the wing, Mata would be a better signing. And if we want to add to our strikeforce David Villa would be a better signing. So, as we have 2 players who specialise in Silva’s free role behind a front man, Berbatov and Rooney, with Llajic coming in Jan, Silva shouldnt even be on our radar right now. But thats not to say he isnt because it doesnt work like that. Sometimes clubs go for players even if they have similar players or strength in their positions already. We did that with Vidic and Evra and after a while, it turned out those signings were master strokes and bargains. It seemed odd at the time though as neither player came in and straight away looked like an improvement on what we had. Silva could potentially do the same thing if he kicks it up a gear, but in no way are we lacking what he usually brings to the table, so he’d be way, way down on a list of players I’d personally think of bringing in to strengthen the squad. It would be like Valencia signing a left winger.
