I’m not a Koeman defender, but I do believe that this Valencia team’s cycle is over. We can’t expect the team to win matches playing defensive football like they did 5 or 6 years ago. And for all of Koeman’s perceived faults, he has brought back attacking football to the Mestalla, and some fighting spirit too. Last night’s match was poor, but many players played with heart, and I was pleased to see players like Miguel and Albiol making attacking runs.

Anyway, changing the manager before the summer would just confuse things even more.

I don’t normally call for coaches heads hastilly but Valencia are without doubt the underperforming team in Europe. Last season a lack of depth meant they lost pace with the leaders, and at the beginning of this season the depth was found and all the best players were kept. Even Vicente looked like leaving his injury woes behind. I thought the Ches were going to be challenging for La Liga and the CL, but 10th and 4 pts from the drop – this is quite hurrendous. And it’s not as if it looks like changing. Koeman should be got rid of – Valencia need a good man manager and he just isn’t. The board should camp outside Jose Mourihno’s door – he’s one of the best man managers about. He actually could turn things round.
