I’m Back, Baby! And Villa Will Be Too!
By: Cesar | July 2nd, 2008
Hello my fellow Valencia supporters!
I’m back and boy, it’s been quite the summer so far!
David Villa transfer rumors, a supposed buyer for the club, a new kit …
Oh, and did you hear that Spain won the European championship??
What a summer! What an unbelievable time to be not only a Valencia fan, but a Spain supporter …
If you’ve followed my Spain blog on the Euro 2008 site, you know I had the wonderful opportunity to go to Spain and Valencia for a week last month.
I’ll post some photos for everyone’s amusement in the coming weeks. I got some great shots of Mestalla along with the shock of my life: a litter of kittens living in the grandstand of the stadium!
I was also able to chat about the team with almost everyone I came into contact with. Taxi drivers, bartenders, homeless people … you name them, they chatted about the club with me. So I’ll share some of their opinions as well.
Three regrets on my trip to Valencia:
1.) No pictures of the new stadium.
I just didn’t have the time to get over there.
2.) I didn’t get the new kit.
It came out a day after I left …
3.) I wasn’t there to see Spain capture Euro 2008.
Talk about bad timing! Couldn’t I have been born a few days later? Uggh …
Nevertheless, it was great to see old friends, including the Mestalla.
So now that Spain are European champions and Valencia stalwarts David Villa, David Silva, Raul Albiol and Carlos Marchena have European hardware, what next?
For starters, how about the news that star striker and Euro 2008 Golden Boot/Pichichi
David Villa wants to stay?
Don’t believe me? Take a look at this article with comments from Villa made at yesterday’s celebration for the new Euro champions in Valencia, where the crowd chanted ‘Villa, Quedate!’ …
David Villa says he intends to stay at Valencia “for many years”, despite the Spanish club admitting they have had a number of offers for the forward. …
“I am happy here,” Villa said. “I hope I can continue for many years, including more than I have signed for. I’m under contract and I’m very happy.” …
Agustin Morera, the club’s president, says he intends to fight to keep (Silva and Villa). “If we had wanted to transfer them [Villa and Silva], it wasn’t that it didn’t happen because of a lack of offers,” he said. “Last year was the same as now, we have offers on the table for them. But our interest is that they stay, that is our hope as well as to have a very great team.”
So there … Villa stays. Well, we hope so …
Until then, we wring our hands, hoping the news is true … and we celebrate what’s so far been an exceptional summer.
Now, the true works starts.
The transfer period is alive and well and Valencia have barely made a blip.
What’s to become of our beloved?
What moves will we make to bolster an underachieving squad that finished mid-table last season? How will we be able to afford both Silva and Villa with the massive debt on our hands?
Will the cats living in Mestalla survive?
What does Unai Emery have up his sleeve?
Will Juan Villalonga buy the team?
What size shirt should I buy?
Stay tuned! I’m back and it feels oh so good!!

My admiration for Villa just keeps going up. 80% of money and fame obsessed players would have been out so quickly after last season, but Villa clearly loves the club and believes in it. Fantastic!!!
The only thing that annoys me is that I never got round to placing £1 on Spain to win and Villa being top scorer (as I was planning) before the tourny. They were always my tips and I could have been about £25 up!!!
I love that picture: a show of unity from some members of the squad is encouraging - it looks like they mean it. May I add that Marchena had a suprisingly excellent tournament.
And welcome back Cesar, I think you are one of the best bloggers here on the offside (certainly better than me!).

Am I dreaming? I hope I’m not…Villa’s back? WOOOHOOO!! I think he’s one of the main players that will bring back the glory that Valencia deserves. He’s such a good guy, so loyal to Valencia and not after the money they’re all paying. He definitely had better chances at the other clubs but he sticks to Valencia, much to everyone’s surprise and happiness. I think I’m going to faint…

Villa and Silva are staying.
You wanna know why?
http://www.goal.com/en/Articolo.aspx?ContenutoId=762507
That is a post saying Silva wants to stay and Villa is already talking about an emotional game against Sporting Gijon next season.
What does that mean guys?
BTW…Id hate Sanchez and Emery if we sell BanegaPosted from

according to marca we offered banega in exchange with zabeleta but they rejected banega! why do they wana get rid of him when he is soo much better than EDU and Bunch of players we have! Valencia administration is seriously pissing me off! and with people thinking like that believe me! next season wont be so much better than this season! I miss Valencia that use to sign big names! now we are just another villa real! screw juan sanches and his choices!

Another Villareal?? I’d love to have finished 2nd in la liga and be in the UCL next season, not to mention having players like Senna and Cazorla

good to see you back cesar. hell of a summer so far. however, the next two months are gonna suck–no football, only baseball. agreed daniel, i’d like to be villareal as well–cheap, united, attacking squad. i’d be ok with banega being loaned out, but sold? gimme a break. the guy showed flashes of brilliance last year and he’s so young. not to mention that we’d lose millions on the deal, having bought him for 18 mill last winter. so so glad villa and silva are staying, now we could use some defenders and maybe a replacement for joaquin, if indeed he is to go.

Hi, just a few pre-season comments. The every day controversy about Palop has at last ended with Seville saying last night, ‘No sale’They will only look at a money deal that is packaged up with Alexis. Emery wants to hang on to Alexis so thats that. The only other transfer comment was that Sanchez is interested in Niang Llama (Senegal) who plays for Olympique de Marsella and is going for 12 million. What about looking at those cannon-shot Russians. I read that Arshavin is leaving his club and likes the look of La Liga. I saw him listed at 16 million but he will fetch much more than that. We have Fernandes/Zigic and Banega. If we got all we paid for them last year (ha ha ha) that would bring in 54 million spending power.
On Banega, there has been a lot of heartfelt comments from Shaun, Ali and Tim about his importance despite his proven immaturity. I would just like to point out that he is down to play in the Olympic Games 7th to 23rd August
Valencia play their last friendly match in Newcastle on the 8th August and then are against Real in the Supercopa
on the 17th and 24th August and the Liga starts a week later on 30th August by which time Banega may just be back in time for a seat in the stands. He has got to win his spurs before he can treat a club so lightly.
Heres looking forward to some sensible direction from VCF
in the coming season…..Adios AlmendrasPosted from

Daniel i mean by another villa real as in a mid-table team! and i really think valencia is a bigger club than villa real! im with you on tht Timothy! i would beg to not sell Banega! lol

Villa you’re trully a great player not only in the field but include your heart too!!!
The news about Villa & Silva insist to stay give a great spirit for the entire team to face the competition next season. I hope the club doing the same thing with Joaquin, Banega and the other decent players. If that happen i believe we’ll have a great season in 08-09!!!

I figured that’s what u meant Ali, but Villareal is definitely the wrong example to use, they’re no mid-table team. But of course Valencia is a bigger club

A left back is needed so why not Zhirkov?
Actually, bring in a big Russian contingent - these guys really are great footballers: Anyukov and Zyryanov would be nice.

There is this russian defender i dnt no what his name is thts was kicking the ball so hard from the middle of the field! tht id like to have in valencia! we need another striker! if villa stays,, good but we need a striker with a strong body! villa is good but playing against big and tall defenders he seems to lose the ball easily! just like the game against Sweden if my memory is not betraying me.

im curious .. Caniera and Miguel and Moretti are all leaving.. who we going to have for defence.?
Albiol Alexis Marchena del Horno?
And who is going to take Joaquin’s place looks like he is who we are selling for 20 million euroes. I will miss him i still think he is a great winger.. We need to sell Vicente the guy only plays 5 games a year.

javier…. i think pablo hernandes is going to take juaquins place! but the defence lol i know!!! our team realy went from bad to worse! no goood signings yet! i envy atletico. they r going for the likes of arteta and van dervaart and we are chasing players mallorca level ( no offence) letts wait and see i guess! we need a much stronger forward and a much stronger defence to defend against Ac milan, Ajax, Spurs, and M.City. not mensioning hamburg and burusia Dortmond! life sucks these days to be a Valencia fan! but once a fan..always a fan! Amunt!

Our club’s management sure are inept..almost mid-July and our squad still looks a helluva lot like last season’s. Buffoons..

i agree with daniel–in part. we certainly need some new names, especially in defense. but the core of our squad was the same last year as it was the year before–when we got 4th in la liga and were a bs goal away from the CL semis. our coaching was lacking. hopefully emery will work wonders with our talented squad. that being said, our management sucks D, and we need some transfers. they should get on that. use the 20 mill or so from a joaquin transfer and swoop van der vaart. oh yeah, we won’t because we’re in debt up to our eyeballs–nevermind, management is a bunch of buffoons.

Hi, Well as a lot of you will have heard Juan Villalonga will be taking over as CEO for the next 4 years and will have a compleate free hand.He is an ex Director of Telefonica that brought success but resigned because of talk of insider trading but not without a golden handshake of 25 million Euros. The directors have resigned on mass to make way for the new team that he will choose. He has been asked by Soler to look for a buyer for his 71 thousand shares (85 million Euros) and he will get a small percentage on the sale. He is to turn around the economic disaster that is Valencia at the moment and will bring the ex-marketing manager of Madrid to make that possible.Villalonga has been studying the situation for the past 5 months so that it is all systems go when he takes over. Money coming in is the order of the day but he says he will not touch Villa or Silva…………we shall see
In the player market I see that Arshavin the Russian crack will not be going to Barca as they will only offer 15 million. If we swapped with Zigic and Fernandes, they would have 36 million !! how about that.Posted from

why would they ever lett ivan hilguera in valencia and want to sell banega?? its getting to the point that im feeling they r intending to stab valencia so it wouldnt threaten barca or madrid! i mean what kind of personw ould sell banega and leave hilguera in defence?? plus!! hello please by some1! teams have been buying since before Euro and all we did was running after a 34 year old B- coach! They r doing nothing right!

because we can get 12 million for Banega. If not he is very young and very tallented. He is on par with Pablo Aimar in my opinion. And would be a good replacement for Baraja.
