Goodbye Vicente, My hero, the perfect Valencianista…
By: dan_c | May 16th, 2011(apologies for the plain old URL. Despite me FINALLY (praise the Lord) being given an account, the speed of the accounts is still successfully matching evolution as the slowest thing in existence, so slow that some folks (and that goes for evolution too) can’t see it moving and so don’t believe that it moves at all. so paste the link and go watch it. a bit long but i reckon the first few minutes are worth it.)

A true hero.
If only he wasn’t so injury-prone.
Nevertheless, the man who was a Valencia fan from birth became one of the great servants and fan heroes of the Mestalla.
Nearly 250 appearances(I lost count when the crying started). 496 fantastic memories (I did count.)
Vicente Rodriguez Guillen, I salute you.
Thank you.
PS. Changed my mind. New manager next season please. Emery is scum for what he did. How dare he treat Vicente like that in his final home game in match of virtually no consequence? I’m furious.

CUPER???? wtf are you serious??
he hasnt done anything since his 2001 saeson with Valencia.
He did nothing with Inter .. With mallorca accomplish a super duper awesome fight against relegation.
11th
17th
13th place.Wow really good coach.
Then switched to Betis and proved just how awesome he was.
Oh wait no he didnt.. he managed 17th place.
And now coached since them.,, Parma.. georgia..a nd some greek team that couldnt beat Mestalla B if they tried.
Seriously i find it harder and harder to read this crap from day to day. Do you guys even keep up to date?
The same people that dis Benitez asking for Cuper back?
At least Benitez won Silverware after leaving Valencia.
Emery is a very good coach and is doing well in Valencia. Ive always loved Vicente too.. but the fact is he is an injury prone super high waged player whos best days left him over 6 years ago. Let it go.

@Javier: Foreign Valencia fans do bring in revenues you know? Do you really think Valencia would be a better club without foreign fans?
Or would you rather Valencia CF be a local club like Levante?
Im pretty sure it wasnt a foreigner that brought Soler to the club. And Soler wasnt a foreigner too. I dont think there is a single foreigner on the board of directors. We foreigners had nothing to do with this downfall
A lot of us “foreigners” travel to the city to cheer the club and pay a lot of money for airline and train tickets (unlike some local fans that dont bother to show up when the stadium is just 10mins away), we also help the city by staying in hotels, eating restaurants, bars, clubs etc….it helps the economy and its good for any city. Even Valencia.
First you called a lot of people here “fickle fans” for having a different opinion from what you think, now you think all foreign fans just “bitch, bitch, bitch” because they disagree with the coach.
Do you speak for all the people of Valencia? Im pretty sure some of them dont want to renew Emery (without the corruption of foreign fans).
I dont think Valencia needs this mentality right now if they want to become a bigger club.

small point. Just because in the past players leaving have got a small run at the end of their last games doesnt mean its the right system to employ. Especially in a deadrubber game. I fully agree that Cuper would be rubbish and that we can’t disrespect Benitez’s work at Valencia(he brought us our best recent successes and broke the Barca Madrid monopoly, even if briefly), but (foreigner or not) i think the treatment of Vicente was unacceptable, especially since it appears he was left out on personal grounds from emery.

-

think Back, Zigic isn’t a legend. Villa and Silva didn’t know they’re leaving for sure.

Morientes? i would think of making something to Zigic more than him.Plus, most of the people who do the polls on the internet are the valencia people because they know spanish, and polls do tell something Javier. and i can tell you that more than 50% of the so called “local valencia fans” don’t want Emery.
another plus, some of the “foreign fans” know more than the “local” fans about what’s going on in Valencia CF.
so it’s not an issue.last Plus, Cuper took us some place no1 did. the CL final. beat that.

-

I am not a huge Emery fan. But we are third for two years in a row with the mega teams Barca y Real. Now if we fire him and get somebody else and dont get into the champions league next year…. What are you Emery haters gonna say then?

-

Jason: if you would think this way, No coach will be changed! his success is not great. Valencia could do much better with this team. the one he has.

-

@ Javier
Is someone on their period or something? Damn take a day off mate, i said i want someone LIKE Cuper, the manner of how he handles his team, the type of personality, didnt i just explain that in the text behind the sentence: someone LIKE Cuper. If you’d been up to date (…) you’d know my favorite would be Pellegrini. Yeah and what has he done in recent years, record points for Real, bringing Villarreal to Europe, nothing much, im a foreign Valencia fan so i dont know shit…Maybe you should read some Voltaire; i might not agree with what you say but i’ll fight to the death for your right to say it. Take it easy on those who dont share your vision. I never liked Emery, Fayez and I have been clear about that for a long time. Do we expect silverwear? No. Do we expect to finish above Barca and Real? No. But what we do expect from the third club in Spain to have a trainer who at leasts shows authority, knowledge and character, one who knows how to play our team best. And a coach, if we decide to go with him for a while, has the ability to bring us further.
Some of you just think every change is bad, that changing a coach is bad just cause one needs consistency. One must think further and i dont see Emery as a coach who has more to improve in this team. THATS why i want another coach. So that we can get towards a better Valencia, who in some years might have a shot at challenging Barca and Real. But i guess you choose consistency (LOL) over ambition, thats fine by me, but i choose to go the same road that once led us to the Champions League final, cause that is where we have the capacity to be. Not today, not tomorrow, but someday. He who does not dare does not win. What i also said is i dont want another coach above everything, just to get a new coach. It is a careful matter to choose a new coach, so we dont end up with Koeman again.
So shout all you want to these foreigners, i remember half of Mestalla cheering when Koeman was signed, so much for Valencian wisdom. They loved Angulo eventhough he was a back in the day Maduro, oh what a great player. Stop pretending someone who goes to Mestalla is a better fan than the one in Tokyo staying up all night missing work just to see Valencia play on a crappy ass internet stream.
Valencia should feel fucking lucky it has such loyal fans, unlike the ones who stay home 50% of the matches in Mestalla eventhough they have a season ticket.

at no point did i say i dont want Valencia to have foreign fans.
Fayes you of all people should know that i bend over backwards to spred the joy of valencia cf to all foreigners.
I do however notice that foreigners in particular seem to bitch the most about the club and its coach and yet dont seem to understand very well the direction of the club.
I hope you can understand that its annoying.
Everyone is welcome to their opinion. As am i no?
Im just defending the current coach of Valencia CF.
Emery does not deserve all the negativity after all he has done for our club.
You call for his head and yet he has been the best coach in the last 6 years.
Two straight 3rd place finishes after huge bankrolled clubs of Madrid and Barca.
He did so even without Villa and Silva.
You say he does have authority.. really? If not why do we have players that do not play do to diciplin problems.
Look i talk to Ever for time to time and i can assure you that as much as he is agreat guy and interesting to talk to he has created his own problems at Valencia.
So has Vicente.. so has Miguel so have alot of these players.
The reason they dont get along with Emery is do to his authority.
He doesnt take any shit. Miss training.. dont play.
He works the players increadibly hard. Ever Banega complains alot about training way more than he did in Argentina and he doesnt like it.
Well duh.. this is the fricken LIGA. You thing Chelsea.. or Madrid train less ?
Valencia CF are top club in Europe.
EMERY is responsible for that.
At least give him credit where credit is due.
Please lets not become Real Madrid and pull a Vicente del Bosque sack as a reward for his achievments.
Cause we all know how well Madrid do after sacking a coach that does well.

-

sorry about the foreigners comment. You probably right.
50% of Valencia fans are clueless

-

if banega thinks he is working too hard here he should try our germany france and england, he will do intervall training until he looses the fat he carry most of season in a single week. i think emerys maine weakness is physicall training. and i like how he punish the players. too many times in la liga i see teams with no deciplin and when they go behind they just act if they were on vacation. we are the comeback kids in la liga this season. even though we couldnt do much about 0-5 madrid game im happy it didnt end much much worse

-

@ Javier
Well the negativity from me has been there for a long time, simply cause i dont like him. I have however, on multiple occasions, given Emery credit for the work he has done so far. That why I dont think he is a bad coach, like i’ve said many times, but i just think we can do better. And better is something we should always aspire to be. So i say its time for us now, to step it up.I partly agree with you on the authority part. True that some of these players *cough Banega *cough Miguel have to thank themselves for their punishments, no doubt about that. They should stop bitching and start showing some discipline. South-Americans tend to be lazier anyway, no surprises there
But, Emery doesnt show a natural authority. If you see him going crazy along the sidelines, you actually see players mocking him, not reacting to his commands. The fact that we have no true captain shows his disability in this matter. The fact that he hasn’t given Valencia a system, an identity, shows he is some what a captain without a coarse. I think Emery just doesn’t realy connect with the team, which also explaines the inconsistency of the team.
You know this team great potential, we dont need big names for victory, we make big names through victory and we achieve that through a fighting spirit. A true fighting spirit at Valencia i haven’t seen in a long time, thats why i brought up Cuper, cause he managed to make our team working beasts. I’d rather have a calme, commanding master mind trainer to bring us to the next step. I just dont see that in Emery. Tactically Emery is weak, socially not the best either, so to build further upon the current success we should look for better.
So Javier its not that i wanna become like Madrid, i want to step up to the next level. Emery was essential in bringing stability to our club, now its time for both of us to move on. But not at all cost, maybe in the current situation we cant find anybody better than Emery, if we dont then we shouldnt change trainers….

-

@jhonny walker: i do understand that we have been neaten buy some lesser teams but its normal in all top sides. even real madrid, barca, man.u, arsenal, chelsea and specially city have been beaten by lesser teams. its just part of the game.
but the potencial some speak of isnt really there, just look at our back 4 and its written midtable all over it, only our left backs are currently good enough.
when we bring rami plus 2-3 more defenders and we dont improve our play then it will be down to the coach

-

I personally think our only current weakness lies int he back 4.
A defence is the hardest thing to bring together effectivly.
Defence has been Valencia’s main defect since 2004.
I just cant think of any coach that we could switch to thats better than Emery right now. Benitez is the only possibility and he hasnt been doing better than Emery lately either.
Valencia needs to always finish in the top 4 in order for us to get out of debt and build the new stadium
So from my point of view Stability isfar better than risk.

-

2 questions from a foreigner Valencia supporter….
Is Mata leaving?
and who is producing the new kits?
As far as being 50% unknowledgeable, who really knows what goes on with any club?
any help would be appreciated!

-

phew. Im glad i got home to find that we’ve all blown off some good aggro manlyman testosterone steam. good work boys. Me, iv got a younger brother, so most of the energy goes there. ah yea, personal punching bag.
an interesting thing to see it what people prize most highly. Some want stability, so we can get to a good financial position as a club, some want immediate upturn in fortunes, some just want excellent football.
This, however, is my issue. I just want a manager who is going to go mental with passion, show deep love for the club, throw himself into the players and their games and lives and be fiery in his will to succeed, almost obsessive in it. That is all. That is why for me the Mourinho/Ferguson type character is just something else.
A good example of a manager who has done well but doesnt quite do it for me is Harry Redknapp. I have big tottenham love and he has done great things i guess. He is a great wheeler dealer, gets on well with players and builds them up. But his tactical naivety is frustrating, his passion isnt huge, and he doesnt have that “anything but a win is unnaceptable” mentality. Thats what i want. asking a lot? probably.
i guess i have high standards.
I WANT MOURINHO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

-

@Javier: No need to apologize about it, I replied to it becoz I didnt expect it from you to blame them when im sure a lot of fans from everywhere “bitch” or dont want Emery regardless of where they are from (foroche is full of them).

-

I cant believe Emery achievements are being compared to Benitez.
Its like the two league titles and the European trophies, and the CL with Liverpool never happened.
What has Emery won, apart from that la liga promotion with Almeria? Im not saying Emery is a bad coach (he’s good), but let’s not calm down about him.
As for Cuper, even though he hasnt won anything lately, he got us into two CL finals.
IM NOT SAYING LET’S KICK OUT EMERY, or let’s bring Benitez or Cuper, but both those managers have achieved more than Emery.
If you want to compare someone with Emery, compare him with Flores…and not with managers that have done so much better than he has.
As soon as we can secure a better manager than Emery, id sign him. And yes, I think Benitez is better.
Would I replace Emery with an unknown coach? Of course not. But I also wont let the club be a slave of Emery “maybe ill sign, maybe not” attitude. We gave him a good contract, if he doesnt want it he can leave.
Being 3rd or 4th for Valencia is a good season, but nothing exceptional (i.e. what Cuper and Benitez did). I mean we didnt over-achieve. Imagine we won the cup or reached the semi-final of the CL, then it would have been a better than expected.

-

@Johnnie: 100% agree with what you said. I want us to be a stable club too, not a team that loses 4-0 to Zaragoza or 6-3 to the Madrid reserves because of coaching or sporting issues and win 5-0 against Villarreal.
Id take a 1-0 win or a hard fought 2-1 without the drama. I dont want a coach that is brilliant one day and pathetically stupid on the next. Just someone who’s stable and is respected in the dressing room.
Im not saying we should get someone like Mourinho, we cant afford him. But surely a lot of talented coaches fall in the category between Emery and Mourinho. Thats the level Valencia should look for.
If we cant find anyone, THEN we stick to Emery. I dont like to think of him as our best or first choice, but the best available.

-

@dan-c “. I just want a manager who is going to go mental with passion, show deep love for the club, throw himself into the players and their games and lives and be fiery in his will to succeed, almost obsessive in it. That is all. ” YOU DID JUST DESCRIBE EMERY
