Good Vibrations
By: Cesar | October 23rd, 2008
The days pass until our next game against Recreativo this Sunday and the accolades continue to rain in.
First off, a nice little ditty about our wonder coach Unai Emery and his resemblances to former coach and current Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez.
Valencia have been transformed from a strife-ridden side that flirted with relegation last season to the early Primera Liga leaders thanks to new coach Unai Emery’s ability to unite the dressing room.
The east coast side, who visit Recreativo Huelva on Sunday, started the last campaign as contenders for the title but fell apart after the club panicked and sacked Quique Sanchez Flores and appointed Ronald Koeman in his place.
The Dutchman helped cause a rift within the squad by dropping stalwarts Santiago Canizares, David Albelda and Miguel Angel Angulo and telling them they were surplus to requirements.
Valencia plummeted down the standings and although they won the King’s Cup, Koeman was sacked just before the end of the campaign.Emery, 36, arrived from Almeria in July with one season of top-flight experience, but has made an immediate impact with few changes to the squad. A great tactician and motivator, he has won over a tough dressing room in a short space of time.
“He has surprised us all because he knows how to get the most out of the squad. He came in with his arms wide open and has tried to get the best from every one of us,” said Albelda, who has been restored to the side.
BENITEZ SIMILARITIES
Winger Vicente has said there are many similarities now with the side Rafael Benitez led to the league title in 2002 and 2004. They top the standings with six wins from seven games, and have scored 17 goals to just four conceded.Struggling Recre are third from bottom and without a win in six outings, though they put on a much-improved performance under new coach Lucas Alcaraz last weekend, drawing 1-1 at Valladolid.
He certainly has done wonders for the team’s confidence. For players to openly compare him to Benitez and his job in winning Valencia’s first national championship in 31 years is sublime.
The guy can definitely coach.
Then this from Brazilian midfield maestro Kaka, who gushed about on-form striker David Villa and his odds of winning the coveted Balon D’Or award …
“I believe that Villa is a great striker, for me he is one of the top five candidates for the Balon D’Or. He has had a great season with Spain and in spite of the poor league form at Valencia,” Kaka said, smiling and giggling, his hand covering his mouth so onlookers wouldn’t see his wide grin.
“He was central to Spain winning the European Championships. The national team has played great football and has shown some great individual talents, one of which is David Villa,” said the AC Milan midfielder, fiddling with his pigtails and chewing his gum loudly.
“He is a good striker, strong and fast. A complete scorer that can do it also outside of Spain. I am sure that with him Valencia will be big again,” Kaka said as his face turned beet red.
Good words from the former Balon D’Or winner. But does Villa have a realistic shot of winning the award this year? I highly doubt it.
Cristiano Ronaldo had an amazing year as did Villa’s national team partner Iker Casillas.
I’d love to see a Villa surprise, but I doubt this award is in El Guaje’s future – at least for this season.
Ronaldo’s Portuguese team mate Miguel was fat last year.
He’s still pretty big-boned, but the right back is taking better care of himself this season, laying off the paella and Twinkies for a change.
“I have to take care a little more and to be prepared and at 100 per cent because the team needs me,” he told reporters. So … the team didn’t need you last season? Great professional, this Miguel …
When QQ Sánchez Flores was in charge, Miguel’s weekly trips to the nightclub and regular smoking habit went unnoticed while he performed, but ‘TinTin’ Koeman didn’t approve.
Things have had to change now however as the full-back admits that he wants to prove himself and to keep his place in the side when everyone is fully fit.
“I feel good, things are going well and I have been enjoying my work,” he continued. “I am taking advantage of my chance and taking care because I am the only right-back. On a personal level it has been good so far.”
Thanks for trying, Miguel.
Seriously, I enjoy Miguel’s work, But you’d think for the money he was being paid, he’d have a little more class. Hey, at least he’s changed his ways, eh? Who am I to complain?
Anyways …
The comments board has been inundated with transfer talk the past few days, with talk of strikers galore heating up the hot stove.
Two news tidbits on this front.
First, we’ve dropped our pursuit of Hajduk Split striker Nikola Kalinic.
Apparently, sporting director Fernando Gomez was in Croatia yesterday but refused to go higher than £5 million for the 20 year-old. Hajduk Split are looking for something closer to £8 million for Kalinic.
With the debt we’ve racked up the last few years, I doubt we’d pay this much.
Then again, couldn’t we sell Zigic and make that back? Hmm …
We’re also supposedly keen on AZ Alkmaar midfielder Demy de Zeeuw. The Dutch international is seen as an effective defensive midfielder described as a good tackler and passer of the ball.
Dutch paper De Telegraaf claims the 25-year old is attracting interest from Spain, having failed to secure a move away from his homeland over the summer.
He helped AZ climb into third place in the Eredivisie last season, while also establishing himself as a regular member of the Dutch national side.
Ok, so is this really what we need right now? And how much do they want for him?
I’m still of the opinion a back-up striker to Villa is more a priority …
Carlos Tevez, you say?
Can you imagine that??
Oh, I better not. My head may explode …

I personally think we should take a look at this young kid.
Ezequiel Lavezzi
Here is his wiki: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ezequiel_Lavezzi
He is very young but has already been compared to Tevez.. he plays in Italy and is no stranger to scoring goals. Already scoring 5 goals in 7 ties with Argentina.
Prolly pick him up for a couple million and have a nice young talented striker to place next to Villa next season.
Another talented kid and more of a force striker is James Vaughan from Chelsea’s youth team. Kid has a great career in front of him and adds a bit of brawn in comparison to Villa. He’s a brit but that could shake it up a bit and add a fast at the net attacker to work with fernandes through passing.
here is his wiki:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_Vaughan_(footballer_born_1988)
now with both of theses they are foreign. i like the argentine cause he already knows spanish which is the problem hilde had. I would prefer spanish youth players. But i do believe we need young strikers and veteran defenders.

and how about mario balotelli?
do you guys think he good for us?
goal.com said that he want to go out from inter.Posted from

@ Hugo hugo
Kerreisson, some investment company bought his right and altho Valencia had a verbal agreement with the club for like 4 million, they now own the rights and ask at least 15 million. So too much.About Kalinic, Valencia wanted to offer 9 million euros but Soriano stopped it saying we cant afford it. And Hadjuk didnt go lower than 10 million, so no deal (we bought Villa for 14 million, for sure Kalinic can be a next Villa so stupid mistake!!)
As about the other players, i still cant believe we are looking for other players while we have one player still contracted, Aaron!!! Ok he is out to Rangers for 2 years, but he is such a big talent, we should get him back asap and let him play at VCF!!! My God how Valencia can throw away such talent (2 year loan at Rangers, with option to buy him…). This dude plays regular in Europe U20 teams, he is incredible!

if vcf cant buy a player that cost higher than 10 million, it’s better to buy no one in january. but we need to sell some, that’s for sure.
*but it would be a difficult situation if miguel get injured… we really need a backup for him.

All these transfer targets are well and good, but we need to bear in mind that VCF is BROKE. And I mean REALLY broke. Almost AIG kinda broke, yeah.. I know it sounds harsh but that’s the reality. We have already performed miracles in keeping Villa and Silva, and right now we have a team (despite it’s lack of depth) that can challenge for La Liga. We need to focus on trimming down our squad, getting rid of the 10 or so players on our payroll that serve no purpose (a la Curro Torres) and try to get our financial house in order..

Ok if we r really broke then why does emery wants this guy from AZ alkamaaR??? we have a defensive midfielder, why waste money on him, shouldnt the money we want to buy him with go for a better striker?, we have mudoro and albelda and marchena,,, all who play on tht position, why would we add another guy?? thts stupid if we buy him! Priority is the key word here!

I think Emery made a mistake in his changes. Im not quite sure if bringing Baraja on was the right move, plus bringing on Marchena for Fernandes was simply crazy. I think he should have brought on Morientes for Mata and keep Fernandes in the midfield.
Im just glad we got a point, and kudos to the Recre goalkeeper.Posted from

Anyway I think Emery should tell Miguel NEVER to shoot on goal again! Am I the only person that thinks he is really over-rated? He isnt that great in defending, he cant cross and he cant shoot on target even with the goalkeeper beaten.

Yeah, I was disappointed too. But now, almost all our closest rivals are getting even worse results than we had. Sevilla 0-1 Malaga, Villarreal are trailing 0-2 Atletico. Let’s hope Real Madrid fail to win tonight. Barca is simply unstoppable and uncommentable, luckily we are still one point clear at the top if Villarreal don’t manage to score their equalizer.

ok so the game was a very laid back affair.. valencia never looked like they were overly hungry. And Miguel.. Its the little box with the net in it.. jesus whenever the guy takes a shot its miles off. I dont get it.. his passing is solid his crosses solid.. his shots jesus wtf.
all in all Valencia didnt do anything wrong.. they showed up and possessed the ball.. they just never took the necesary risks up in the opposing end to break through.. their goalie was quite awake.. that fernandes shot nearly ripped his arm off.
The subs. Angulo shouldnt play.. 3 gamse doing nothing.. sit him. Vicente needs games he looks rusty. but i rather him on than angulo.. frankly i though Morientes should have been brought on in the second half. Baraja ok ok.. it was basically bring on Baraja for albelda.. a nuetral sub that would have little effect. Marchena for fernandes was silly. fernandes was playing a solid match why go defensive when we should have brought on Morientes at that time.
But AMUNT VALENCIA.. soms les liders!
In all a tie was worth the point to keep top but i consider this leaving 2 points on the field. Valencia were th better side but the subs we put on seemed to put us on teh defensive instead of going for the jugular.

I think that angulo shouldnt even play soccer anymore, he only runs and runs! his passes are stupid ,a nd he is not confident! he always passes the ball backwards!! so he should never play again!! i think bringing baraja was a good choice cuz baraja has some attacking genes in him, we saw how he created a great chance for mata to shoot but mata left ot for miguel and miguel screwed it up!
brinigng on marchena, that i dint understand but it might be cuz fernandes was really tired! our team was tired, villa was tired!
and what the fuck is moretti doing, u all saw how he ran infront of the guy who scored against us?! Doesnt he know how to defend? in tht position he should only block but never try to cut the ball, cz if he fails then the attacker will be facing the net! so he should have only blocked like albiol did! but morreti lacks defending mentality! i think we should get rid of him and angulo!
The team is tired and we dnt have substitues! we r tired and we lack depth! now lett valencia sit back and fuck themselfs due to the stupid signings they signed the past years!
im not satusfied with the draw! we all r seeing how barca are playing and how madrid r playing! if we want to be on top we have to behave like a top team! id rather get a point playing against villareal or madrid, not recreativo!Posted from

I think bringing a new striker should be a top priority for us. Im pretty sure Emery wants to play a 4-4-2 but with the players he currently has he certainly cannot.
I agree that Angulo shouldnt start in la liga, but I still think he should be played when the team is winning (his experience can still prove to be valuable). He should start in the cup matches and the UEFA cup though.
As for the striking options, Kerrison would have been excellent, and so would Kalinic. Olic would not be a great choice (he’s 29 and I doubt he would be more useful than Morientes and Zigic). We really have to sell Zigic, Maduro, Viana and Hilderbrand if they wont be used anymore and get a quality striker who’s not older than 23 and give Villa some help up front.
We are still lacking in many areas (particularly from the lack of goals from anyone else apart from Villa). Everyone in the team apart from Villa, Vicente and Mata seem to not know what to do in front of goal. They lack that last touch. Teams like Villareal do not have the killer instincts of the Real and Barca players in front of goal but they make it up with short passes to a better positioned player to score. Our players should be more aware of their team mates. Clear examples of this occured in the match today in bundles (particularly with Miguel, Joaquin and Angulo).
I know Emery has improved our defending and holding midfield, but he needs to work a bit more on our attacking options, we cant just rely on a brace from Villa in every match.Posted from

Well saod fayez but why would we start angolu in uefa matches? and we might lett him play if we r winning im with u on tht. I know hes old but hes not the player that uses the experience hes got! hes not del piero, he messes up attacks more than he fixes by using his experience which i think isnt there in first place! i rather sell him to any team who wants him ang get a million or 2 out of him rather than have him in valencia! hes very well worn out!
