Fixtures 08/09

By: Cesar | July 16th, 2008

So the schedule for the new season is out …

Looks like Unai Emery’s boys will have a tough go at it near the end of the season, when many of Spain’s top clubs will be meeting Los Che for the right to carry the La Liga Championship in their back pocket.

This being the last season at the current Mestalla, the final game of the season takes on more meaning, against Athletic Bilbao the weekend of May 31st. It would be nice if we’re trotting around with the Spanish trophy and UEFA Cup a la 2004 that night, eh?

Cesar, what are your thoughts on the system the LFP put in where Barca plays a team, and the following week Real plays that team, and so on and so forth? It seems to be a little strange doesnt it?

Also, not to give you nightmares, but I found this on the official site today, thought it was strange: http://www.realmadrid.com/cs/Satellite/es/1202739316663/noticia/Noticia/Aumentando_el_ritmo.htm . 3rd picture in the deck….

    Corey, it is strange …
But I don’t mind it … just a simple rotational system and no need to muddle things like what happens in baseball and american football …. the schedule does become predictable though …

Be wary, folks. Remember, the 400M Euro cash input is from a loan … so that’s gonna have to be paid back.
They’re hinting that the new stadium and new marketing plan will give the team new cash to be able to pay that back … but if that blows up? We’re in a lot of trouble …

I personally think Morientes and Villa With Mata as a sub are a killer group of strikers. I would concentrate on defence and midfeild.

if we can spend 35 on eto’o, why can’t we buy VdV for 25 and a decent left back for 10? first we have to sell the farm to get out of debt, now we’re gonna break the bank. this truly is silly season. i’m gonna go to either the recreativo, getafe, or sevilla game in mid-march to early april. if anyone is goin to one of those games, let me know. amunt!

Everybody don’t forget to support our boy Aaron Niguez in the Euro U-19 championships. As you might know he plays for Iraklis in Greece on loan and he’s coming back to Valencia next season. Hope he has a good championship run and by next term he will be set to conquer la liga and champions league with us.

I thought Aaron was staying on loan for next season at Iraklis, I remember reading that somewhere… Eto’o would be awesome but like Timothy says I believe we have more pressing needs in other areas of the pitch, not to mention about 10 players on the squad we need to offload

What do you guys think of Xabier Azkargorta?
Juan Sanchez was definitely not the man for the job.
Its a bit late in the game for a new sporting director, but if he’s good, he can still salvage a few things.

I agree with Javier, Timothy and Jason that we need to focus n midfield and defense.

I have liked what I saw of Asier del Horno when not in a Valencia shirt - if he’s serious about delivering, we can get LB covered. I’m most worried about not having someone in midfield to create moves and do the link up play.

we need a decent midfielder more than we need a new stadium.the interest on our curent debts is an unbelievable amount,we really are deep in the shit.still the nou mestella will have a juan soler stand with really really big seats, and thats whats important

Ya your right guys we need an attacking midfielder and a left bk! but the idea of etoo is still too hard to resist!
morientes is soo old hes a dinosaur! any defence can outrun him now!
Mata is really good but 1- hes short for head…2- he doesnt have experience to play him in real important games with lots of pressure! to tell you the truth i dont see mata playing against milan in uefa not tht hes not good but a deadlier striker gives more comfort! villa and eto is more like it!
what date is the deadline for the transfers?? nebdy knows?

I think too many people get caught up in the names and fail to understand the dynamics of a team. Morientes to old to run? Please Morientes isnt a runner.. he scores nearly all his goals with his head. he is a target man.. he waits for crosses then blitz the net. Villa is a finese man.. he outruns the defence and plays around them. These are complimentary players. Mata is alot like Villa in style. I personally think Morientes is a great striker he consistently scores goals.. last season he was injured. I dont think our attack is the problem.. valencia are traditionally a defensive team.. when we won the liga two years in a row it was ont he back of the most solid defence and goaltender in the liga. We didnt score the most goals. We just got one more than was let in. More often than not.
These new managers wanna see goals.. i know. But frankly i wanna see results.having 7 strikers on the roster didnt help Valencia last season. give it up already we know theyw anna sell shirts but frankly we need defence.

Moro is a great striker to have on the roster.. like javier said, he’s a target man and a good one at that, unlike that other guy (read Zigic). Eto’o would be a great player if we had the resources to get him AFTER we shore up the midfield and defence… although I still feel like Banega should be given a chance

javier i understand how ur thinking, ur more into tactics im guessing and i like tht,,but see what i mean—> what makes a striker a dangerous one is him mastering in all types of plays, (power of kick)(accuracy)(speed)(head) etc!! now morienntes is good with his head so thts a + but how many -ve does he have?? this is the way i rate players specially strikers! its simple realy!.. now we all agree morientes is good with his head but lett a tall defender stick to him and you might as well play with 10 players.
so his head is a plus but we cant count on his head in every game. if a striker is not a runner then the defender will not be tired of chasing him all around, the defender will be sticking right in his ass all the time, why? cz hes slow, and he doesnt run to outrun the defender marking him. lets rate as an example..
morientes has a good head +
    hes slow in motion -
    hes not a runner -
hes not good with his feet -
he cant shoot from a distance -
he cant kick a foul -
hes good when hes man to man with the goolie +
at the end hes not tht great!
    compare him with villa
    hes fast +
    he shoots fouls +
hes good man to man against golie +
hes good with his legs +
hes short and not well built -
so over all villa is a good striker!
    u see wt i mean?

I say the styles of morientes and of villas compliment each other. When working together, morientes knocks down those high balls for villa to get a latch on and explode towards the box, whilst villa can deliver that extra pass for a poachers goal inside the box with morientes only needing to touch it once.

    Hey Ali……Who you calling Dinosaur..????????
Ok…I get it…MORIENTES might not be as fast or as good at footwork as the other striker…But he actually can score goal and that’s what really matter….
Just look at last season…he hardly play for Valencia but he managed to score 6 goals and 1 in the copa del rey final..so seriously…who cares if he’s slow if he can manage to score goals…..
