Five or Six Players on the Way?

By: Cesar | June 4th, 2009

Now that the 2008-09 season has been put to bed, we can turn our heads towards next season and what’s to become of Our Beloved Valencia CF.

Of course, much of our summer strategy depends on the General Meeting, at which the capital increase will be voted on. That’s this Sunday.

Much of VCF’s future depends on whether the Mestalla is sold by Vicente Soriano, the capital increase goes through, the general mood of shareholders and so on.

Basically, what I’m trying to say is: Wait and see.

Today, coach Unai Emery said the team should transfer in either five or 6 new players, provided the bloated squad of 35 can get down to 22 or 23.

Asked about the season at a press conference, Emery stressed that VCF had not reached its first objective – the Champions League. But VCF did make the UEFA Europa League, “which is lower, but for Valencia it’s important to be in Europe.”

Emery reaffirmed that his position as coach of the club was “not subject to entry into the Champions League,” but has admitted it was a “disappointment” to not reach an objective for which VCF fought “until the 37th week.”

For us too, Emery.

Emery also said that the planning of the ‘09-’10 VCF season is on hold pending the outcome of the general meeting of shareholders on Sunday. Emery’s postponed VCF’s vacations until he knows the financial direction of the team and can talk to each player about their future and the past season.

“We are already scouting players and positions so we’re ready when it’s time to make decisions,” he said.

Emery said that “some of the players on the team will not fit with the squad next season, which aims to have 22 or 23 players.”

“The first task will be to reduce the squad to make space for new players,” noted the coach. Hugo Viana and Curro Torres anyone?

Emery said he’s counting on David Villa for next season “depending on what the club and Villa decide.” The coach thinks the team will make a grand effort to keep El Guaje, no matter what.

On the difficulties that may arise in trimming a staff of around 35 players, Emery said “at the very least, existing contracts must be respected, but there are VCF sporting decisions that existing sports contracts may make difficult. We’ll try to come to a mutual understanding.”

The transfer window is upon us. Once Sunday comes, the flood gates will open.

Until then, it’s wait and see at the Mestalla.

Steef: Manchester United have proven to the world that they deserve 5he best sponsors.
In the other hand, Valencia’s recent downhill has brought the team into the shadow which will consequently lead them to have lesser sponsors.
This is more than normal. Unless that the team is bought by an unknown rich businessman, then the team won’t have the same amount of funds that ‘Manchester United gain from one season.

Emery is totally right. 22 players would mean at least one sub for each position. Plus, let’s not forget about the cantera players that can get some first team experience in the same process. By the looks of it, it seems he tends to build his own squad already. This is what I want to hear.

Valencia and sports gambling website Unibet have reached an agreement for shirt sponsorship for the 2009/2010 and 2010/2011 seasons.

The strangest part of the deal is that one of the incentives is that Valencia will make more money if they buy players fron Sweden, Norway, Finland, France, and Belgium. Not only will the club make more money, but Unibet will pay part of those player’s salaries.

We are also interested in Juan Albin from Getafe apparently. I would prefer Albin over Granero.

Also, according to Marca and AS, Real Madrid have made contact with Silva’s agent.

Hmm, Ballague whenever he’s on UK tv (Revista de la liga) says he supports Espanyol and is quite clearly partisan towards Liverpool as well. The other presenter of the show (I dont know his name but he has gay hair) supports Atletico Madrid and Liverpool. So as you can imagine the show isnt very good.
