Fear and Loathing of Real Madrid
By: Cesar | August 15th, 2008
A short one today …
I’ve made no denials of my admiration for the reigning Spanish champions and 9-time European Cup winners Real Madrid, our opponents in this season’s curtain-opening Super Copa.
Who isn’t seduced by their pristine white kits, their unbelievable history, their dashing players, their Spanish-ness and their incredible pedigree?
Still, nothing pleases me more than to see them lose. And badly. So while I’m not 100% AntiMadridista, I definitely get a kick out of seeing them humiliated.
Yes, I’ve cheered for them in the past, especially after Valencia have been knocked out of the Champions League, etc.
Yes, I’ve fancied Ronaldo, Zidane, even Raul on occasion.
C’mon. Who hasn’t?
Besides, how can one not admire Casillas, the great national team ‘keeper after his efforts against Italy in Euro 2008?
Although things got weird between the two factions around the time of the Pedja (Judas) Mijatovic transfer from Valencia to Madrid in 1996, culminating in the 2000 Champions League final between the two clubs, the general consensus (in my belief) is that most Valencian fans fancy Madrid over Barcelona any day.
So there’s that admiration.
Still, the current incantation of Madrid coming to Valencia for Sunday’s game is a team I find hard to admire.
You have Rafael Van Der Vaart, the guy who held our shirt aloft for all to see only to go to Madrid a year later.
Robinho, who refuses to come to Valencia with the team because he wants to go to Chelsea, the poor baby. (How long before he calls himself a ’slave’?)
There’s Raul, who I dislike more and more every season, especially for his grand-standing over trying to get on the national team ahead of Euro 2008. He didn’t play, thankfully. The rest is history.
There’s Ruud Van Nistelrooy, the equine-faced striker who scores goals in buckets.
Arjen Robben, who looks like he’s 45 but really somewhere closer to 12.
And the worst of the worst, Wesley Sneijder, who broke all of our hearts last season by going to the capital instead of us.
I hope Valencia torches Madridon Sunday, especially after the 5-1 drubbing we received at the Mestalla last season. It’d be a fitting beginning to the new season.

Hi, as I have said on various occasions WE DO NOT NEED ANY MORE PLAYERS, we have never had so many quality players. Villa, Silva, Morientes,Joaquin, Vicente, Miguel
Moretti,Marchena etc.. and Mata on last nights performance has come along to join them. Early on in the Eurocopa qualifying games, Aragones had as many as six Valencia players on the field !!! that must say something
Spain won after 44 years, Valencia has the talent they just need the right coach. Sopiano has promised to bring
in forwards SAHA and MILITO, who needs them to water down what we’ve got??. Last nights game was brilliant attacking football and a couple of more should have gone in making it 5-2. Villa spent too much time offside and missed a few chances. Silva was great, Mata the best I’ve seen him and Joaquin showed how we cant do without him with his expertise. Vicente rose from his sickbed to really shine, what more can we wish for. Let Emery mould this talent together and not pussyfoot around anymore, last night proved we can do it, ok Bernabeu may be another story but we are up there in the champions position if this level is maintained…Adios AlmendrasPosted from

We need Saha and Milito? r u joking? we dnt need them, Saha is even more fragile that vicente, and milito miss most of his kicks, and he is slow! those r just two fucked up choices! like most valencia’s choices! well sarioano must promise players like huntlaar and martins, at least tht size of caliber! or does he think hes the president of mallorca ( no offence )!!!

I don’t think we can choose our country of origin, cuz I can’t, but I don’t see many from Slovenia. But like yeah, I thought I was the only one in the U.A.E., but apparently most of them here live there. I don’t know, do we all see different countries?

To Quin: No man, it’s just site bug. (I’m realy realy close to your country)
Anyway, I’m realy glad our team won. Most important thing is that they believe they will win. And for that fact, I’m glad Emery gave them confidence…
Next stop : Revenge on La Liga!

Daniel, Trinidad (in 2 weeks anyway)
Martins would be great wouldn’t he? But if we sell Zigic, I think we’ll have Milito money and not Martins money if you get my drift. Newcastle won’t sell him for anything less than 20 mil euros, but we could bully Zaragoza into selling Milito for about 10.

In Unai we trust.
I saw the game again and we played beautiful one two football. Classy passes. But did made a lot of unforced errors which gave Madrid few chances to counter attack (but it’s still preseason). But look at the bright side, it’s mental test for our boys and they showed their never give up spirit. Credit to Unai. Really! He said the mental strength will be the first issue he will tackle with his Valencia. It showed. The boys believed they can win…..all the way.
Real Madrid probably want to kick themselves for letting Mata…Matadore go. Ha Ha!
Man, if Unai can get Miguel to play well like last night after he’s been crapped and his form dropped so much. Our coach can work wonders. It may be too soon but I am now a believer in him.
Shaun d Che, I’m green with envy.
There lots of Thai flags but I am from Thailand. So correct origin for me. Cheers all!!!!

Martins would not fit in at Valencia he is fast but is not good at working 1-2s and his finishing is not top quality he would not fit into emery’s system. Huntelaar is overrated and scores so few goals in Holland where the defenses are the worst out of the big leagues in Europe. there is a reason why Huntlaar was not approached by any of the Big clubs in Europe. Milito would be a good fit for Valencia as he can pass the ball well and is good at positioning himself. he scored 51 goals in 108 appearances for Zaragoza and we have better play makers so he could sore more with us and most importantly Milito can play up front alone unlike Martins and Huntelaar. Emery only plays one striker in his 4-3-3.

I don’t think we need more strikers… We should get rid of Helguera and buy a new defender thou…

Btw; does anybody knows anything about the Zabaleta deal???

I agree with Nilton, we need defenders not strikers. The match proved that. Our midfielders an attackers both are capable of scoring. It’s our defense that’s weak, and we need to fix that. We shouldn’t have let Madrid score 2 goals. I hope they learnt from that, Emery’s a sensible and observing man.

Excuse my french, I’m excited. I fucking love Emery’s new style – looked like a completely different team. I don’t care if it’s only one game. The unity and attack-minded tactics showed through. I’m very excited about the season. Even with the score at 1-0, I told my friend: I don’t care about the score, I love how we’re playing; we’re back. And I think we are. Let’s finish off Puta Madrid on Sunday. AMUNT!

Timothy, I thought I was the only one getting stupidly excited over one win. Your comment relieves me. Who cares about the score when you’ve got a team like this to watch? It’s what we’re after anyway, the football, right?
Ali, I’m still studying. I know, this place is amazing! My brother used to study where you do, but he left 2 years ago. And I thought I was the only Valencia fan in this country. Glad to see there’s someone else.
