Euro Memories
By: Cesar | September 16th, 2008With today’s start of the UEFA Champions League and our impending journey to Portugal for the UEFA Cup, it got me to thinking: Why aren’t we playing in the Champions League??
Oh, right. Koeman. Soler. Sorry.
Of course, the answer isn’t that simple. And I haven’t the patience to go through it now.
But the Champions League song, the chanting crowds, the midweek games made me nostalgic and hunger for our Beloved to be journeying to the outskirts of Europe to play in the biggest football competition in the world.
That’s not to put down the UEFA Cup. But c’mon. The UEFA Cup isn’t even that important to UEFA.
Of course, if we win, I’ll be ecstatic. But until we get to that point, I wil kick and scream that I’d rather be in the Big Cup instead of the Euro Vase.
Anyways, here’s my favorite Valencia Champions League moment. What’s yours?
With that being said, Valencia do have a game Thursday, against Maritimo in Euro Vase.
Maritimo president Carlos Pereira thinks we can be beaten.
“There is little doubt that Valencia are a power in European football, with great players, but I believe we can get a good result at home.”
The words may seem brave and optimistic and, based on Marítimo’s two domestic results already this season, they also seem a little fanciful. The largest club on Madeira have lost both of their league fixtures, falling 1-0 to both Guimaraes and Naval.
Pereira hasn’t lost hope, though, and believes that, at home with the crowd behind them, his team could be a force.
He continued: “We must respect Valencia, but we will not fear them. We will try to counteract their favoritism and, although it will be a difficult match, it is not unwinnable.”
Let me be the first to say: Whatever!
No, I know. Respect your opponents, right?
I really wish we were playing in the Champions League. How depressing …

my first game at the mestalla was a cl against milan,we lost.ive seen riots on the pitch and parties that you couldnt believe unless you were there outside the ground.my unforgetable memory, beating villa real last game of the treble season.
also one of the greatest joys of my insignificant life…… seeing pablo aimer destroy teams single handed.
just saying pablo aimer gets me going.amuntPosted from

Selling Aimar was the greatest mistake that any football club made in the history of footbal. My God, if we still had him now, next to Villa, Vicente & Silva …
Where is he now anyway? Still in Zaragoza?Posted from

4-1 against Lazio is one of my fave UCL moments because it was the very first time I watched Valencia play, and I instantly fell in love.
Aimar’s goal above, and the 5 goal thrashing of Sturm Graz are also up there.
@ Quin: That’s quite the exaggeration Quin. Aimar didn’t really fit into the system QQ had going back then so I understand the technical reasons for selling him at the time. He’s still one of my all time favourite players for sure.

Hi, just to keep you up to date, Silva has been successfully operated on. The problem was a rare one, it was an extra bone growth on the end of the tibia bone and this has caused some inflamation for the past year. It has been scraped away and Silva should be back in 3 months.
The game tonight is against a very lowly team from Madeira and as Caesar has pointed out, they have already lost their first 2 matches. I think it is an oportunity to rest Villa. He is missing a lot of shots and could do with a break, ready for the Liga in 3 days time.We have enough talent with Pablo, Morientes,Angulo,Joaquin and Zigic to provide an attacking force to take care of tonights match. The Valencia four that went to the Eurocopa have had a hard season and this has to be thought of…Amunt, AlmendrasPosted from

In my opinion, the best game was on San Siro (even it finished 2:2), Silva scored that terrific goal in Julio Cesar net. I was so happy when he scored that goal. ^^

I was at that game, and Valencia were extremely impressive.
By far the best team that Inter faced that season.

Oh by the way, what does “Che que bo” means?

Pablito!!! I recall running around the house at that time. We really need to revamp our midfield. It Doesn’t make sense having world class striker (Villa) and second stiker/ attacking midfielder/winger (Silva) without a deceptive player like Aimar was and good support in the defensive midfield area. We need to build.

Ali but if you look at it those 8 games were spread over something like 14 years. Maritimo are not European regulars so that record is not that important. but Portugese teams are know for having well organized packed defenses so i expect that Valencia will spend most of the match trying to break down Maritimo.
56, “Che que Bo” means “the Che are good” and is a common cheer for when a Valencian person or organization has done well.
