Defense!

Daniel returns for another view of the Valencia CF world. Hopefully the Offside gives him an account soon so he can post on his own! Daniel, take it away!

The third worst defence in the league. I’m drooling.

Is this the game to put us back on course for third spot? I believe so. Sociedad pulled of a magnificent smash-and-grab last week, and in doing so condemned Barca to just a second defeat this season, and produced, along with Zaragoza, the most unlikely result of creating the first matchday since December 2008 when both Real and Barca succumbed to defeat. Yet at best they are relegation strugglers, porous and weak.

Sociedad’s final two games are against Zaragoza and Getafe, two teams peering precariously over the edge at a future in the second division, so they will view those matches as solid chances to ensure their survival. They will still be hungry for any point they can steal against our boys. Sociedad’s success is also built upon their home displays. 10 of their 13 wins this season have come at Estadio Anoeta.

Earlier League Meeting

Aduritz and a wonderful Tino free kick overturned a deficit to hand Los Che a solid 2-1 at the Mestalla. More of the same please.

Here is a reminder of one of those moments which makes you want to leap up onto the rooftops and scream “AMUNT” until your lungs give out.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=80SFz1eeoYk
Tino, my baby, how I love you. How do you curve a ball like that? Who is this Beckham you speak of? Bend it like Tino, with Natalie Portman, now that would have been a movie.
Damn, now that I’ve just got those Tino loving vibes going, time for a quick player profile.
Alberto Tino Costa (known as the younger, more “bootilicious” Antonia Banderas to my “alternative” sister) made a name for himself during a stellar season for French side Montpellier last season, where the penniless club, relying on their impressive youth system and free agents, led Ligue 1 for much of the campaign before ending a brilliant 5th.

Tino is a dynamic 26 year old Argentine midfielder who wears the number 24 on his back for Los Che. Overall he has featured in 30 games for Valencia this season; scoring some stunning goals (see the above video, and also goals vs. Rangers, Bursaspor and a Getafe volley) and his good displays have been rewarded with call-ups to the Argentina B side.

What a boy.

Ah. With that slightly…um… interesting moment over, let’s return to Valencia.

Our run-in offers chances of victories in Espanyol away, a local derby against impressive Levante and a final away game against struggling Deportivo.

Those bastard Submarines have a seemingly stickier sprint to the line with games against Real Madrid, a solid Mallorca team and Osa(*&@#$^)suna. Their tie with Almeria by all accounts should be an easy win.

Me, I still definitely back us to make it to the line. If we end level on points at the end of the season the routing of Villa at the Mestalla by 5 to 0 will count in our favour big-time.

The danger in this match must surely come from midfielder Xabi Prieto, who has provided 7 goals and 10 assists for the Basque club this term and has been linked with Liverpool and even a Spain call-up at one point. He is the man that Stankevicious and co. must stop. I predict a cracker where the boys respond in style to the pressure.

Let the games begin.

Dan

p.S. Anyone else had enough of the media fixation on Real-Barca? Honestly, get over it now, it has happened, most of it was dull as test cricket and Barca’s players proved once and for all that they belong in the Spanish Olympic Diving Squad far more than on a football pitch. Their behaviour was shameful (But THAT’S a complaint for another day). It’s always Real-Barca, Real-Barca, Real-Barca. Mourinho eating croissants for lunch and Busquets discovering a spot on his left ankle would receive more coverage than the rest of the league put together. And Busquets would still manage to find a way of connecting the dot to a sudden pain in his head.

Rant over.

Sorry.

Amunt forever.

    On another note.

    In 11 games with us, Jonas scored 3, assissted 3.
    In the last 10 goals of Soldado, Jonas was with him in the line-up in 7 goals. It shows how effective the 4-4-2 is doing. or call it the 4-5-1. I don’t know. Jonas drops to the back sometimes to fetch for the ball.

    Plus, i’ve read that we might be signing Luis Garcia, coach of Levante for next season. you think this is happening?

    and what do you guys think?

    I read we’re after Michael Laudrup too!

    Im not sure what to think of Luis Garcia, cause frankly i dont even know what he looks like, i just know Levante was doing very well this season, but would that make him a second Emery then?

    I like Jonas, he looks like a modest and honest guy when i see him play, he surely knows how to score which kinda makes me doubt we need Gameiro. I mean, with Aduriz as a backup, our attack is already set. Give Jonas some games at the pre-season and he’ll outscore Soldado next year!

    Benitez, Luis Garcia, Pellegrini, and Laudrup are some probabilities for a coach.

    Elias, Gameiro, Mallo, Montoya, Thiago Alcantara; Possible signings.

    Theres a lot of rumors about Benitez being offered to Valencia (by his agent I suppose) as long as he gets 3 year contract an 100% sportive control of the team. Braulio would be fired or reassigned I suppose. These are all rumors, please dont ask me about my sources.

    The one signing I would be thrilled to get for Valencia is Callejon from Espanyol. Youll see what im talking about tonight.

    Now I must go because the VCFSS (Valencia CF Secret Service) is trying to knock down my door. ill be back. Amunt!

    Rafa Maudes: i think Benitez and Pellegrini are “fan made” rumors haha!

    and i know Callejon from the start of the season. this guy is awesome! probably we should sign him if we offload Joaquin or Pablo.. Or maybe Pedro Leon from Madrid. i would love to see him play with us, was a shame he went there.

    @Johnnie: If you think of it, I would kick aduriz out in a blink of an eye! this guy is 30 now! and Gameiro is 23! Jonas is 26, Soldado is 25, Gameiro is 23. and you will get consistent age and desires of play.. they all have skills, they all score. *hopefully Gameiro comes and proves me right*

    @zizou
    the financial situation at pl and the way they run the physical and mental part of the game have given them the edge above all but real and barca.
    valencia and at.madrid both have enough revenue to compete with them. but we need to learn from pl clubmeneagement. everton and arsenal is a good place to learn from.

    If of any teams La Liga and PL can learn its the Bundesliga, the only financially healthy league in Europe, the rest is all either backed by major capital or bankrupt (/ close to it). But thats typically German, they got their financial shit together (i dont even wanna start Spain and Italy…)

    @ 7amanito
    Gameiro will cost 10 million. We cant sell Villa and Silva again so in our current situation, we wont sell Mata, so there is no big money coming in. Therefore i’d keep Aduriz as a backup and spend the very little money we have on our defense so we keep our financials in order. I mean, 10 million is a big chunk of our budget, spending that on the best performing part of the team would not just be irrational, it would put us in the same situation next year again!

    Zizou flattering always helps and Zidane was in my opinion the best player ever so your always welcome unless you troll. The thing about Liverpool is that I don’t think they will be in Champions League anymore I mean Arsenal Manchester United and Chelsea will stay in the top three although I have my doubts at Chelsea and Manchester City will more likely get the fourth place or higher in the next seasons however Liverpool certainly are doing good at the moment it can be that they get like a fresh start to their season and may not preform as good as now in the next seasons.

    Fayez we should try and win the title next year even tough we won’t get close to it it’s still is good to chase after it because that will create a fighting spirit. Of course I don’t mean to literally fight for it and give everything because if it then fails there is a chance that the spirit will crush and we will have to start from Blanc again. I hope that was clear because if you try and fail you can stand up again and the next time you’ll be stronger however if you give everything till nothing is left then you will fall at the point of no return(sound a bit dramatic and I exaggerated a bit. So if we constantly fight and get stronger the next time we stand we will eventually be able to win, Also Barcelona won’t get better because you can clearly see that they have weakened over the season and Madrid will follow them as well plus key players in Barca such as Xavi will get older and that that will weaken them and I don’t think Messi will stay like this I think that Messi’s best will come at the start of next season and then he will go down a bit and he will get better again at around 30 of course that won’t necessarily happen but Barcelona will get weak over the coming year, They will buy players but again won’t get better than this but Madrid can take longer.
    But I think it will take 4 or 5 years.

    Johnnie is right to only teams last year that generated any profit were Arsenal and Tottenham other made loses and the Bundesliga is the only ”big league” where about every team makes profit.
    I would like Garmeiro and I know that we need to work on our defence but at the moment I think it is better to work on our attack because that is the way football has developed for every offensive to more defensive and now sometimes very defensive so it better to start with a strong attack now (never thought that I would say something like this because I am very defensive minded when it comes down to football management/tactics) and when you have a strong area the other parts of your team can get stronger if you play right as well as that team that play offensive football like Arsenal don’t concede that many goals although they don’t have such a strong defence And your strikers are your first defensive line when you lose the ball is we do that we will become better but only if we play the right way the way the will suit the team best.

    @7amanito : I think the 4-4-2 is our most effective formation this season (with Jonas and Soldado up front, Banega and Topal/Albelda in midfield).

    I dont think its a 4-5-1, but Jonas plays a bit like a supporting striker and not as an attacking midfielder. Personally I dont see anything wrong with a 4-4-2 if its played like that.

    As for the coaching rumors, I still think we have to wait until we get 3rd place then consider all options.

    Im not so sure about Luis Garcia, I mean he sounds like he has a lot of potential but he would be a gamble. And would he be better than Emery? Why risk changing Emery for another young promising coach who might not do any better?

    Levante have done exceptionally well with almost no funds, their whole squad (including subs) costs 35ME (thats Mata plus Pablo in Valencia CF terms). For them to perform this well is exceptional, and Luis Garcia had a lot to do with it.

    However, all this doesnt mean that he would be able to perform better than Emery with us.

    I have been watching plenty of Porto games recently and really the way Villas Boas manages to lift them and push them EVERY game is incredible. I think he would do incredibly well for us at giving consistency that we need more than anything else.

    Dan Inter has been linked with everyone it’s unbelievable literally not believable they have been linked this season with more players than Manchester United Arsenal and Chelsea combined every week there are rumour about 2/3 players so I won’t believe it unless we are in the transfer window.
    And yes Villas Boas is amazing and I said before that we may get him if we ask for him early and he doesn’t look like Mourinho as a person which is good.

    @Fayez

    People say that Luis Garcia has done well at Levante because he has managed to steer them clear of the relegation places. Valencia need a coach who can guarantee them a Champion’s League place and a decent showing in Europe every season. Levante and Valencia are two completely different kinds of teams and there is no indication that Garcia could fill Emery’s shoes.

    @Dan

    Vilas Boas is overrated. Sure he won a second-tier league and is on course for a Europa League final, but let’s see how well he does in the Champion’s League. For Managers it will be interesting to see what happens if Marcelo takes over at Sevilla in the summer; and of course it’s always amusing to see what happens at Atleti.

    Jiwonsi I have to disagree with you on Villas Boas I think he has proven him self he has won every game and draw 2 I mean that is unbelievable even if it’s a fifth rated league and I also have to disagree with you that the Portuguese is bad because they had 3 of the 4 finalist in the Europa League if any League can manage that you can but think its a good one and Benfica have beaten team such as PSV and Braga has beaten Liverpool and Sevilla and Braga is not even 3rd in the League they are fourth after Sporting Lisbon.
    This should be enough to at least make you think

    @Jafar & Dan
    Not belittling anyone. Vilas Boas has been getting good marks from the English media but he has hardly begun his managerial career. When Mourinho arrived in England he had already won the UEFA Cup and the Champion’s League. What continental titles has Vilas Boas won? Say what you like about Emery, but he has already pitted his wits against the likes of Guardiola, Ferguson and Mourinho. What managers has Vilas Boas competed against? Sure he may be good but until he manages a Club in a top-tier league we won’t know exactly how good he is.

    Jiwonsi He is favourite to win the Uefa cup and his Porto is alot better than Mourinho’s one in fact Porto are rated the 4th best team in the world and come on they were one goal behind against Villareall and in second half they scored 5 how many times this season have we seen them winning in the second half after being down so that means that his team talk or pep talk call it whatever you like has alot of impact on his players and his subs always provide something to win the game.
