Today’s the 2-year anniversary of the Valencia Offside!
Happy Birthday!
Check out the re-posting of the 1st-ever Valencia Offside article way back in 2007 below.
Then come back for the live chat of the Racing Santander-Valencia match at noon (5pm Spain time).
See you there and enjoy …

Amunt Valencia! Amunt Sempre!
Hi, my name’s Cesar and I’m the biggest Valencia CF fan in the United States.
Well, let’s clarify that:
I’m often the only Valencia fan.
At least it feels that way.
Sure, I meet other Valencia fans here and there. Usually because they’re visiting the States, passing through.
I’m always running into Man United and Liverpool supporters, Barcelona and Real Madrid fans.
But where are the Valencia fans? When do I get the chance to hang with my brethren here in the USA, chanting the names of Joaquin and Vicente, cheering David Villa’s goals and Canizares’s saves?

It’s not often.
I’ve been through many memorable times with the club.
Watching them lose two Champions League Finals. A heart wrenching defeat to Spanish rivals Real Madrid. A bittersweet loss to Bayern Munich, Canizares crying furiously after the game.
Seeing them win La Liga twice. So unexpected. After the European heartbreak, so pleasurable to see.
A UEFA Cup victory over Olympique Marseille. Sad European eliminations to Inter Milan.
A bright shining star in Rafa Benitez guiding us to titles.
A haggard Claudio Ranieri dragging us down the trenches.
A stirring comeback against Arsenal. A lamentable thrashing by Werder Bremen.
Watching Claudio Lopez and Mendieta leave. Hailing the arrivals of David Villa and Joaquin.
Watching Valencia at the Mestalla, smelling the salty Mediterranean air.
Having copas with Canizares, talking in broken Spanish.
Wearing the safety orange shirt with pride.
Being the only Valencian voice in a sea of Man U and Madrid fans. Watching them destroy the likes of Liverpool and Barca, smiling with glee.
I may be the only fan most of the time, but sometimes that’s a source of satisfaction. Why try to fit in? Why cave and become a Barca fan, just because they’re good?
I’ll stick to Los Che, my silent cheers having to do for now.
Now bring on the Chelsea! Amunt!

Hey Cesar,
first of all: thanks you for this blog, it is both great and important for me – because I don’t speak any Spanish.
And know one thing: In Germany, it’s just the same. Either they are only interested in Bundesliga or they are “fan” of Barça or Real Madrid. So you can guess how much I appreciate this blog, your work and your attitude towards the club, to REAL (not American
) football. It’s a great feeling to know they are ches all around the world.
AMUNT from far Germany!
By the way: Would be a kind of an honour to see you and other at my youtube-channel where I upload every single goal of Valencia CF. Just search for Valencia CF, my name there is DynamoFan1953.
