Day 11: No Game?

By: Cesar | March 27th, 2009

In my haste to make something of my life, I forgot that Valencia CF doesn’t play this weekend.

That’s a bummer!

In their place, my allegiance moves to Euro 2008 champions Spain and their match against Turkey in 2010 World Cup qualifying this weekend.

Normally I’d be happy to see so many Valencia players with La Furia Roja. But this time around, there’s a small, sardine-like bone to pick with Spain coach Vicente Del Bosque and the national team.

David Silva and David Villa will line up for Spain this weekend. Yet they’ve been hurt for Our Beloved for the last few weeks. What gives?

Speaking ahead of last weekend’s victory over Racing Santander, coach Unai Emery sounded resigned to the two not playing for Valencia, but playing this weekend against Turkey.

“It is a shame for Valencia because we see that on Sunday we are probably not going to be play both of them and then next week they will be playing for the national team,” he declared.

“It is pure coincidence, but it is unfortunate for Valencia.”

Today, he said it would be ’stupendous’ if the two turned out for Spain. But his teeth were gritted and his fists were clenched, a sign of his frustration with the national team.

He went on to say that he wouldn’t tell Del Bosque what to do, that if Villa or Silva were ready to play, that’s just great … but read between the lines and I think we have a frustrated coach.

Besides that, Emery feels it’s important for the players to want to play for Valencia CF as much as they want to play for the national team.

He feels there’s a bad environment around the club and thinks they players should be ‘happy, confident and united like when they are summoned to the Spanish team.’

In his view, it is necessary to ‘create an atmosphere among all the players to want to work one hundred percent and where the players are full of confidence, unity, enthusiasm and passion.”

He said the club ‘has some shortcomings. Not the players, but the club. Right now we need stability.’

And how. Insightful comments from our gaffer.

87-year old Ruben Baraja picked up where Emery left off and said the season’s not over yet. We have some matches left to play and all is not lost until the season ends.

“We were on a good run and where we wanted to be, but now we have suffered several defeats and dropped points at home that has meant that we now face a struggle,” AS quote him as saying.

“We have suffered a crisis of confidence and the team has been slow to react. It appears that any team can cause us problems, when in reality Valencia have been stronger than most teams we have played against.

“There are ten games left and I think it is still possible to qualify for the Champions League. What will be most important will be the game against the teams around us. We cannot lose points against them if we have already beaten Getafe and Sporting, who we play next.”

So true … we really need to win these matches against squads we should be defeating.

Because we know what’s coming up: Those belly-ache matches against the likes of Real Madrid, Barcelona, etc.

That’ll be telling, eh? Rack up as many points as we can now, because those matches, in our current state, will not be pretty …

¡¡Qué Viva España!! Amunt Seleccion …

I haven’t seen anything yet on whether or not the deal has gone through, but I did read something interesting.

We always say we are 400-500 million euros in debt. Apparenly we are 500 million in debt, BUT in order to finish the Nou Mestalla, we need ANOTHER 290 million euros. So we are approximetly 790 MILLION EUROS in debt. Ugh…

Something must have happened for them to say this!!!

    From Valencia’s website:

The secretary and spokesman turn of the Governing Council of Valencia Football Club, Jose Pastor, has appeared, as it is usual to the media after the meeting that the governing body has this afternoon of Monday, 30 March in the offices of the entity.

“The Council, after detailed and comprehensive analysis of the proposed purchase of a parcel of Camp de Mestalla by the group of companies don Enrique Ortiz, unanimously rejected the proposal. This was based on the existence of other alternatives that were considered more viable and more desirable in the interests of society. I say that the president had already communicated to Mr. Ortiz’s decision by the Council in the afternoon.

Secondly, as is required every year before March 31, for enforcement of the Corporations sports it is necessary to analyze, and possibly adopt, the so-called interim financial statements. This is what happened. In the afternoon. The Council has made, and unanimously adopted the interim financial statements of the company at December 31, 2008.

Third, given the economic and financial results that led to the interim financial statements, and a separate, different options that exist with regard to the necessary reflection and that this entails, has been called a new council for the decision that necessary and appropriate, next Thursday, at 18:00.

I need to know what these options are! I won’t be satisfied until I’m certain they aren’t expecting to find a pot of gold at the end of a rainbow. How are we in a position to refuse money? O_o;; If we wait too long, we’ll have to resort to making the guys turn tricks. Please, people! Think of poor, cherub-faced Mata. :(

Hallo Courtney, The 62 million was rejected as an undisguised and not suitable loan.
Juan Pastor gave a list of 6 alternatives which I have translated as near as possible.

1)Make a general offer to increase the Capital. They would aim for 90 million, but the trouble would be a possible 2 months for it to happen, meanwhile hoping to convince the Bank to advance money for the players and restart on the new site. This however would lower the share holdings of Soler and Soriano unless they invested more money.
    2) Try to borrow from another Bank, but strong sources inside suggest this is not possible.
3)Sell all the players that you can get decent money for.
4)Issue Bonds that could be bought and later could be converted to cash plus interest or exchanged for shares.
(I would think this suffers the time lag factor also)
    5) A proposition to sell the proposed Hotel next to the new site and using this to get a temporary loan from the bank.
6)Valencia carry on without a meeting with the creditors.
Including to already consider a new formula to start from
    zero.
(this last point I cant make sense of unless any one else can get a better one, sounds just like “wait and see”)
    Adios Almendras

so now that our beloved have been paid enough to fill there beemers with four star…no excuses.back to back wins for the rest of the season anyone ? a new motivated valencia.

It was very strange of them to reject the offer…..I mean it would have solved our problems for at least another 2 or 3 months and allowed the work on the new stadium to continue.

Hi Nilton, this plan B of Fernando is mainly a list of prices they “expect” to get to help out the situation.
Joaquin and Fernandes, about 12 million each
    Miguel 8/10 million
    Zigic 10/12 ”
    Moretti 7/8 ”
    Maduro 5 ”
    Navarro 3 ”
    Edu 2 ”
Other players can go for a free Transfer, the most notable of these being Abelda.

I think it is absolutely stupid for Fernando to come out with such a statement before the season is over. They wont be selling them till then so why mention it now.
Joaquin was on the TV last night speaking of the “Black list” and said it was like being on “death row”
The incompentance of Valencia Directors never cease to amaze me………Almendras

Hi, more news on a get out of bankruptcy proposition.
It is proposed to float a new share issue of 2 million at about 48 euros per share (this apparantly is what Villalonga propsed to do 78 months ago)
It would have to be confirmed at a special general meeting on June 6th, but the board is convinced that this would enable them to get a loan NOW of about 50 million till the money comes in to cover it.
If Soler and Soriano want to hold the same power, they would have to buy new shares to the price of 34 and 10 million respectively. No doubt this will all be ironed out at the meeting that is already arranged for 6 pm Friday night.
Fernando still put the knife in by saying in the papers, this will not prevent us selling players..Almendras
