David Villa to Stay

By: Cesar | August 27th, 2008

In case you haven’t heard, David Villa just signed a contract extension with Valencia and will stay with us until 2014.

Real Madrid made an offer today of € 40 million plus Javi Garcia or Saviola, but Valencia turned them down. There will be a news conference today at the Mestalla to announce the contract signing.

So I just want to say something to the news writers out there (goal.com specifically) who wanted Villa to jump ship or who had an ‘exclusive tip’ that El Guaje was leaving for a sturdier ship …

You should be ashamed of yourselves.

You deride someone like Cristiano Ronaldo for acting like a baby, trying to force himself to Real Madrid. You look on with amazement at the stupidity and childishness of someone like Robinho, who is basically whining himself to Chelsea.

Yet you decry someone like Villa wanting to stay with Valencia? (Read this article for what I’m talking about …)

I’m especially angry at the people of goal.com. All they seem to do is take articles from MARCA and translate them into English.

Or they write hackneyed opinion pieces imploring Villa and Silva to leave us every other day.

That’s journalism? I’m more of a journalist than these sad sacks.

David Villa is a Valencia player. He stayed with us because sometimes, being happy is more important than money. He should be honored for what he did, not derided because he didn’t do what so many ego maniacal players do day in, day out.

Thank you, David, for having some semblance of honor and not being just another footballer hungry for money …

Stick that up your Real Madrid flag-waving arse, Goal.com …

Almendras Albelda was this way before Benitez left Valencia, he is egotistical always was, how he plays depends depends greatly on how he feels, after playing well in the first leg he felt that he had done his part and won back over the fans so he could go back to being passive and acting like his starting place is permanently his no matter what he does. Even Benitez could not motivate Albelda.

Timo was left out of the squad for todays game which seems to be because of a directive from Emery’s superiors. it was described as a “technical” decision by Emery but the simple fact that Timo is not there as the reserve keeper shows something more sinister is afoot. My main concern about this is that Renan cannot speak Spanish yet (Edu had to translate for him when he had a meting with Emery) so he cant communicate with the defenders, Miguel wont have time to play translator while the ball is in play. My second concern is that he Has been through only one training session with the team and that will greatly affect his co-ordination with the defense.

I thought I had left bias behind when I moved to Spain from Scotland 7 years ago but, no… It is alive and well and living in Madrid and Barcelona (in equal measures). I agree with the leading article, how nice to see both Silva and Villa staying with Los Che. They both could have earned a fortune by moving – at least 3-4 times more than they are on now. Loyalty and quality of life in a beautiful city can mean so much more than money. Good on them! We need a couple of quality players at times to shore up that leaky defence but, on the whole, VCF are a quality side who play QUALITY football. I am looking forward to the match tonight and think that we will win 3-1. Villa, Mata and Baraja to score!!! Amunt!

Renan gave Valencia a few scares but Mallorca hardly attacked, they were very passive and we took advantage. today Valencia showed a lot of patience which was missing in the last game. the defenders worked a lot on their defending and positioning since there was only one minor mistake from them today which lead to that free kick in the box. Moretti did well toady and probably even played better than Miguel. Silva was clearly not fit and struggled a bit but it didn’t affect Valencia attack that much. Over all Valencia played well.

The game was enjoyable the attack was very well orchestrated.. the defending against a weak attacking team was sufficient if not a but nervous. I liked what i saw fromt his new goalie except for that one backpass error he played well though he wasnt overly tested.

The midfield in the second half looked far more solid once Baraja came off the pitch.

Good win and the goals has Valencia of the old days written all over it. Vicente goal was a beauty.

And I like Manuel Fernandez. He should start in every match even Baraja didn’t injured much.

And Moretti wore the captain’s armband? No offence but I thought it should be Villa.

Moretti wore the armband? Really, I never noticed.
It was a good win, but I couldn’t help noticing something. Correct me if I’m wrong, but our attacking wasn’t super-excellent. I think we were kinda lucky that we won. Our attack wasn’t very threatening and like whenever one of the players tried to break-through the defense from the middle, it wasn’t always a successful attempt. I think we really need to work on that if we’re to do well this season.
Do correct me if I’m mistaken. Glad we won the first match, hope there’s more like these to come.

Dina thats because Mallorca kept most of their players in their own half which made it hard for Valencia to get space for their passes while attacking. Silva missed a few passes but that most likely because he has not shaken the injury he picked up in training yet.

Hallo, well we were a bit lucky because of a very biased Ref, but for me the worst thing was this constant passing back to the Goalie when it wasnt necessary. All he can do is boot it upfield and the ball is back with the oppenents again. Remember the passback by Alexis in the Supercopa it was pounced on by the Madrid forward and it went straight in the goal and we lost the cup.I noticed particularly last night when the passing back was going on there were unmarked players on the other wing….almendras

Pfff what is Valencia doing? They agreed the Diego Milito deal for 14 million euros before Villa signed his new contract. Than after, Valencia only suddenly wanted to loan the player??? Now he’s even on his way to Genova according to Italian media, when Valencia still doesnt wanna pay up and only want him on loan (with a buyclaude of 12 million next year). Idiots!!! Just table 14 million now, we havent spend much yet, only on Renan (3 million) and upgraded contracts for players. Now we have a budget of around 100 million euros, why cant we buy Milito???? Milito and Villa, what an attacking pair is that, 40 goals per season assured…

Johnnie Walker where did you get that new from?? from what i have read on Superdeporte and Las Provincias Zaragoza want 15 million euros for Milito and Valencia are only willing to pay 12 but Valencia but have not given up and are still negotiating but will not pay 15 million euros. I never read anything about them wanting to get him on loan or them offering 14 million euros when they were negotiating Villa’s contract. if that news comes from goal.com then it is most likely copy and pasted trash from MARCA.

Real Madrid’s persistant is getting from annoying to be quite funny really. All that money and it can’t buy everything. Santi Cazorla of all people also chose Villarreal over the all mighty Real Madrid. Agree with deky there, Villa chose happiness and love over money and you’ve got to appreciate player like this. Sounds corny but it’s nice to support a team with players like DV and DS. They can go for big bucks anywhere and yet they chose a team (that can be a mess sometimes but that’s the excitement + heartbreak of being a los ches fan). Can’t express my appreciation enough

Anyway I prefer we reinforce the backline although Renan looked solid enough but Mallorca didn’t challenge him much especially in the 2nd half where he became a spectator most of the time.

But we’re back to playing sexy football and I love it.

    @ John
it comes from all websites in Spain. I use more websites than just SD and Goal, cause i read the Spanish papers and use Spanish google news for updates and latest news.

Check this out; Zaragoza needs to sell, they have around 25 million in mind to get from the sale of Milito, Sergio Garcia, and maybe Luccin, Ayala, etc.. According to Aragonese media, the teams in for Milito are: Tottenham, Man City, Valencia and Genova. Genova wants a one-year loan deal, Zaragoza favors that cause than when they return to La Primera they get Milito back. Valencia just wants a loan deal according to most media, or are not willing to pay more than 10 million. Tottenham already agreed a deal with Zaragoza for 14 million, but Milito doesnt want to go to England so he asked a 4 million net income, something Tottenham doesnt wanna pay. He currently earns 2,5 million net, so we would have to match that at least (no prob).

Thing is, Valencia’s strategy is that nobody will pay the wanted amount or satisfy Milito, but Zaragoza will be forced to get rid of him so as a last possibility; Valencia’s option of loan (and buy afterwards for 12 million)… Instead of doing that, just buy him now for 14 million, problem solved. Cause im not confident Valencia’s position in this fight is as good as Valencia thinks…

Well, well, well. That was one of the poorest performances I have EVER seen from a Valencia team – against one of the weakest teams in the league! (Mark my words, Barca will take 6 off of Recre). We went backwards more than forwards in the first half. Joaquin was abysmal for 98% of the game and should have been replaced at half time. Pablo is much more of a grafter than Joaquin and deserves a chance. The sooner we get our play maker – yes, David Silva – back, the better. We may be top of the league but we are anything but convincing. The real test will be when we come up against Barca, who seem to be on fire at the moment. Yes, we can beat them, but only if we show commitment which was sadly lacking against Recre this evening. We have got some great players, and some who are no more than average. Time to weed them out Unai! Let’s dust that cheque book off in time for the January sales as we need to change certain areas of the team. Anyway, it’s not all doom and gloom as we should still be on top at the end of the evening. We live in hope! Amunt….!!!!
