Curro Torres
By: Cesar | November 17th, 2008
Curro Torres.
He’s played many roles with Valencia CF since signing for the club in 1997.
He’s been loaned out to various teams, played for the B team, kept the locker room in order, bar backed at Manolo El Del Bombo’s and served non-alcoholic beer at the Mestalla.
But seriously … the guy’s been injured since about the time Rafa Benitiez left.
Torres emerged under Benitez’s tutelage to become a key member of the Valencia squads that won 2 Spanish championships and the UEFA Cup.
He even got a sniff of the national team uniform, playing with La Seleccion 5 times.
So what happened?
Unfortunately, Torres had dealt with nagging injuries that have forced him from his position as starting left back to one of relative obscurity.
With our problems at left back (Emiliano Moretti) so glaring, Torres has emerged from the back rooms of the Mestalla to say he’s feeling better and might be back soon … that would be a relief, eh?
In this time of need, a guy like Curro Torres would be a wonderful tonic. The guy’s a workhorse, a solid defender and an overall good guy. Besides that, he’s way better than Moretti.
I think that says it all.
Torres wiped his hands on his dirty smock, fresh from cooking the lads a nice post-practice meal and admitted to the press that it “has not been easy” to go through so many injuries of long durations. He said he felt “lucky” to have people around him who never let him get down.
“Then there are other people who offer you a hand, but a hand around your neck to push you down instead of helping you up. These people don’t deserve any respect. There is nobody in particular but a lot of people who thought my injuries would leave all at once and thought that I didn’t want that, “he explained.
So basically he’s calling me out?
I don’t think Curro wants to be injured. But c’mon, how bad are Valencia’s doctors for the guy to be injured time and again, every year?
I feel sorry for the guy. I wish he was on the team.
As for our situation in the league, Torres thinks “we need to be quiet and remain calm.”
Is he calling me out again?
“Three weeks ago we were on cloud nine talking about our best ever start to a season. Now we have had two defeats that we didn’t expect at home, but at Valencia CF we’re are used to one day being on top of the league and the other day the world trying to kill us as if we had not done anything,” he declared as his boss yelled for him to get back to washing dishes.
In his view, the team should “have peace of mind to try to correct mistakes and exploit the positive things that we also have.”
The left back/ bar back argued that the game against Sporting was “similar” to that of Racing Santander at the Mestalla (we lost that one 4-2) because both teams “were planted well defensively in the field of play” and had “looked good” at Valencia.
On his physical condition, he said he’s practicing “practically at the same pace” as his team mates and that every day is “much better.” He also said that he has not spoken to coach Unai Emery “about anything special” regarding his status with the team.
The left back, who is 1,000 times better than Moretti even when he’s injured, acknowledged that he hoped “with great excitement” to return to training with his colleagues and “to return to work, enjoy work and to feel like a footballer again.”
“Being better every day makes you want to have more and now I’m going to work to death to have my opportunities,” said the player, who has stated that after so much idle time, there’s nothing else he wants but to complete his recovery and play for Valencia.
Good luck, Curro. I make fun of you a lot but you’re a class act.
I wish you nothing but the best …

id like a more local sponser like when we had terra mitica or like villa real with castilon airport, wishfull thinking i supose as you cant get more local than valencia experiance.fallera rice or something to do with the flagging orange industry.
no problem with corte ingles or mercedes they are both instantly recognisable and quality brands, better than mas y mas in my opinion or those little cars that you dont need a licence to drive.Posted from

SILVA IS BACK GUYS!! but i dnt no if thts good or bad news, i have no trust on our medical staff, nd i wouldnt want him to go thro what vicente went thro… speaking bout vicente, hes out due to muscular overload! he starts one match and hes got muscular overload! what a pussy that i admire! i love tht guy, hes one of my favorite players but hes done, we cnt keep on dreaming for him to be who he once was, and that also goes for Edu.
Del horno is also out for 3 weeks, so that means we r stuck with uncle stupid haircut as our left back…
-if its as siva said that gomes claimed we r not buying any players this winter, i think we wont finish on the top 4.. barca, madrid, villareal, sevilla all will occupy the first 4 !Posted from

Del Horno is out for a month.Navas vs Moretti is gonna be disastrous.
Silva should be back in a month and then our attack would be back to fully loaded.
Maybe we will be able to match Barca at goal-scoring.Posted from

May be our attach may match Barca,But our defence will be worse than real madrid’s.Come on guys ,i think more than a striker,We need a good centre back.I think we should get Urrby emanuelson,i heard he is unsettled in ajax. And also play maduro in DM instead of albelda. He doesnt have the desire and energy,Atlest u tell maduro, this match is ur oppurtunity to prove that you are better than him,i guess we will be good.I think emery should have one on one talk with each player and give them confidence and the desire,I see our team lacking desire and ambition!!!

If you are exchanging someone from dortmund,It should be marko marin,He will be a genius in a few years.he has got great skill .Check him out. Also we can get stephen Appiah!!.he is a free agent and he is better than albelda, baraja ,edu ,maduro and banega,So we must get him as the new DM for us.Plus he can be got immediately,
what the hell are the valencian board doin,we need not pay any club just pay his salry which can be compensated by selling anyone of the above mentioned names except banega.we will need him in the long term.Posted from

Marcus Berg is renowned for his heading, first touches, and being able to shoot and pass with both his right and left legs. Hes also known for his tactical dribbles and scoring from unusual angles. Marcus berg scored 15 goals in his first season in the Eredivisie, having only played 25 matches, due to having a back-strain injury. In his second season for FC Groningen hes scored 8 goals in 11 matches, and still being labeled out of form by the media.
The name is Marcus Berg,22year old swedish striker

@ Cesar : Hey dude, you like metal too?
Didnt know that! Im more into power metal (Stratovarius, Iced Earth, Blind Guardian, Gamma Ray) and melodic death (In Flames). But I also like Iron Maiden, Opeth and Nightwish. I guess the only genre I dont like much in metal is thrash (except Metallica). What about u ??Posted from

I found an interesting fact! At this moment, ok 2 weeks ago, we overtook Athletic Bilbao as the 3rd most successful team in Spain. We now have a total 2883 points in La Liga-history, 2882 points for Bilbao. So as of now, we are no longer “statisticly” the 4th team, we are the 3rd in number of points (which people always held against us when we said to be the 3rd team in Spain). Still, we need 3 Liga Championships before we can claim to be the 3rd most successful in terms of Liga-wins, we’re now 5th after Atletico and Athletic… Just a statistic hehe…

Siva: Dont get Emanuelson. not ever. I love his attacking capabilities but hes an even worse defender then Moretti is already.
Hes good as left midfielder, but he absolutely fails at defending.

Villa scored the opener in todays friendly against Chile a match that Spain took 3-0. While u may say meh it was a friendly neither side took it that way and went right for the jugular.. Spain played the perfact game and it showed we are still in very solid form and ready to the world cup.
Villa is now the 5th highest scorer in Spains history. Mara Villa indeed. So proud to have him as a member of the Che. lets hope he never leaves

Disappointing that Mata didn’t get a run out against Chile… in unrelated news Trinidad & Tobago beat Cuba 3-0 so we’re into the CONCACAF Hex

Hi, for most of the time the Spain v Chile was a very close match. Spain was awarded a rather doubtful penalty on Riera which was taken by Villa and helped keep his numbers going. Villa was very ineffective and only had one good shot at goal spending most of the time chasing the goalkeeper. Bosque should have had another forward to partner Villa as he was on his own most of the time. Torres came on min.57 in place of Villa and the attack started with Torres scoring 8 mins later with a brilliant shot. Cazorla scored a well deserved goal towards the end of the match because he narrowly missed an earlier one that just curved off the last second.
Fernando has announced in the press that he is forced to spend money on a new goalkeepr as Hildebrand is likely off in the Winter break. He has listed CESAR SANCHEZ….
LOPEZ VALLEJO…DUDU AOUATE. As far as I know Sanchez is the sub goalie for Tottenham (ex Zaragoza) Vallejo I believe is still with Zaragoza. Aouate is with Deportivo but is not being used (he had a punch-up with one of the other goalies in his team after a match so maybe he doesnt fit in !!!) He has probably the best
`Keeper` record but Monchongladbach are probably making an offer so Fernando will have to make a quick decision if that is possible with anyone in Valencia,,,,adios AlmendrasPosted from

I dont think any of those goalkeeping options are great…maybe the best is Aouate out of those. Cesar is really unstable and to be honest I havent seen Vallejo play much to say that he isnt good.
I read some place that Kameni might be available..he would be a pretty good option. Of course Asenjo would be a dream!Posted from

Opps…I just remembered Vallejo was Villareal’s goalkeeper for a while, so I remember watching him and he wasnt amazing just OK.

For some reason, despite the debacle against Sporting last weekend, I have a good feeling about the Sevilla match. Let’s do this. AMUNT.

Hi, I read today that Valencia have signed with UNIBET
This will be vertical on the shirt and in green. This will be available in December. They will get 1.5 million because of the short season and if both parties agree to carry on it should then be 5 million for next season.
Present shirt holders can present themselves at the Valencia to have the word Unibet added on, I cant see anyone bothering about that!!!..AdiosPosted from

Things not looking good for the away match to Seville (on Canal Nou, Sat. 10pm)Del Horno and Angulo still injured and they will be joined by Vicente. Alexis not ready yet and Abelda missing because of 5 yellows.
Playing for Brazil against Portugal,Fabiano scored 3 goals, if he maintains this form, Valencia will certainly be on a loser…….AlmendrasPosted from

Hi, something else, they announced they are going to redesign the Valencia Website. This is not before time, I have just checked and their latest news is Valencia qualifying for the Copa del Rey by beating Portugalete !!!!
In this internet age, this is a disgrace for a major club that wants to be considered one of the `big ones`Posted from
