Crisis?
By: Cesar | September 7th, 2007
Spanish birdcage liner MARCA had a great way of emphasising every Real Madrid loss back in the Galactico days.
CRISIS!, the headline would scream! People would buy the gossip rag to read about the most recent loss, agonize over the startling way this array of talent could screw it up week in, week out.
Problem is, they didn’t really lose all that often. And the club was hardly in crisis.
But let’s state the facts here: The latest news out of Valencia could mean a full-blown crisis at the club.
Things are not good.
To recap:
Vicente’s been hurt.
He’s as brittle as a fine wine glass.
He’s also as talented as they come.
Vicente goes to the Valencia doctors.
They fix him up, say ‘Go on, lad. Have a kickabout!’
Vicente smiles, runs out with his mates, gets knicked again.
Vicente goes back to the doctor.
They fix him up again.
Wash, rinse, repeat. (He plays, gets injured. Gets fixed up, plays, gets injured immediately … do this about 456 times and you’ll get close to the reality of it.)
Vicente’s ok. Plays in last season’s Champions League game against Chelsea in Stamford Bridge.
Vicente looks like a star, toying with Chelsea’s defense, looks like the best player on the pitch.
Vicente gets injured (surprise!).
Vicente is out for the season and spends the entire off-season in rehabilitation.
Vicente plays some pre-season games.
Vicente gets injured.
Vicente goes to the Valencia doctors.
Doctors say, ‘You’re not injured. It’s all in your head. Go see a shrink.’
Vicente says, ‘Bugger off! I’m hurt! What’s this about my head?’
Vicente goes to the press and says, ‘I’ve lost all confidence in the medical staff. They have no idea what they’re doing.’
Valencia’s president, Juan Soler, suspends Vicente for making such inappropriate comments.
So Vicente and Valencia’s head of medical services Antonio Giner (the man who said he had psychological issues) travel to Madrid to see specialist Pedro Guillen.
Guess what? Vicente will be out of action for about a month after getting a second opinion on a thigh injury.
He was right all along.
“Some time ago he had a tear in the thigh muscle and the scar is the cause of the pain. He will need treatment that will surely go well, although he won’t be able to play for about four weeks,” Guillen was quoted as saying in the Spanish media on Friday.
The club is still going ahead with disciplinary proceedings. They issued this statement:
“The medical services want to make clear they have never said over this or previous injuries suffered by Vicente, that they were psychological in origin.”
You can’t make this stuff up, people.
Only at Valencia.
By the way, midfielder Ruben Baraja caused a ruckus during training a few weeks back when he said some negative things about Quique and the coaching staff. But he wasn’t fined. Maybe because we have no central midfielder (Sneijder?) and need Baraja?
Hypocritical? You can’t script a better plot than this.
For all the problems this squad has, for all the tactical lunacy that takes place, this is the one problem that could blow up in their face.
The people running this club have no clue.

I remember watching Gavilan play in his first season coming back from loan.. he is a good player, his crossing in particular had impressed me.. had it not been for injury he might have developed well just as Silva had. He just needs time to regain his pre injury form… but I do agree, his play this season so far has been abysmal

ABYSMAL? HONESTLY.. Its only been 2 liga games and 2 Champ. League games. How has it been abysmal? Give the boys time to gel and be optimistic. You all seem to want to give the championship to REAL MADRID! You must give them a chance to work. ITS A LONG SEASON.

VILLA is a difference maker. Joaquin is a difference maker. Neither played against ALMERIA, or that much against VILLAREAL. Hildebrand didnt play yet. And hes a better goalie. Just let the team fit their groove and LET THEIR BETTER PLAYERS PLAY.
GUYS HAVE NO HOPE. THIS TEAM WILL ONLY PLAY BETTER.Posted from

I see Vicente as an essential part of Valencia; he participated very “effectively” in the recent trophies we won, and he even scored few vital goals and performed many other assists that helped Valencia through the Champions League last season. Leaving the pitch, injured, against Chelsea was one turning point, IMO. He was embarrassing Chelsea’s solid defence.
Having him injured all the time is not because he’s different that all the players on Earth across all leagues. He got injured with severe injuries that can be healed unless the injuries are getting worse, because of medical unawareness. Edu is another example. Almost missing for 1.5 years over two periods if my memory is helping. Is it because he’s so allian? Eto’o’s knee parts were broken, and he returned in 5 months.
It’s either the medical staff is clueless, or our players’ cases are helpless [similar to Solskajaer's (almost kneeless :p)]. Now, after they knew what’s wrong with Vicente, he will be able to get back to playing in few weeks. See, it was simple. It’s not because the case was insolvable. It’s because the medical staff was clueless. Even it should have been solved a while ago, not leaving the case get worse.

Hey guys, LOVE all the comments … thanks so much.
As far as Vicente, it’s not just a player problem. It’s a club problem.
Vicente is frustrated because he’s injured. And he’s constantly injured because he’s been misdiagnosed, as least with this last injury.
I understand the thinking that we should sell him. I even hypothesized that a few months back. But honestly, it’s like breaking up with someone. You carry your problems with you. The club will carry on having these problems if they get rid of the player … they need to get their house in order and straighten out their heirarchy. What’s more important here? Being right or helping the player, the guy who loves Valencia and has given a lot to Valencia, get better?

Cesar. Good point. But its not about being right when its a business. You have to make business decisions. Their med staff would not rush him out their if they saw something wrong. Also, isnt it up to the player to say whether or not he feels good enough to go out their and play. Cant he just say, “NO MAS.” Every time they ask him how he feels after rehab?
The health of the individual falls is the responsibility the individual. Do we really know how well and discipled he was with his rehab. Was doing all the things the med. staff asked of him? Did he take it upon himself to come back at full strength? Is the SPANISH LA LIGA, so physical he is getting bashed and banged up in their like England or GERMANY? Really now. Has he ever been hurt, where the result is b/c of a tackle or collision or where it involved a player on the other team. HEs always pulling something. Straining something. Tearing something. All you can do is rehab those injuring and give them time.
Think a minute. Last time Vicente was seen playing in a valencia jersey was in April 2007 vs. Chelsea. Thigh problem. Valencia played into June. Have July off. Practice/exhibitions in August, Start in Sept.
If my math is right, He had 3 months, to get it right. 3 months to see if he feels good or not. Several exhibitions, several training sessions. No complaints, no problems. He’s faking worse than a Robinho dive. Vicente is not taking his career serious. If he did then he wouldn of taken care of his injury and health in the time he was given. Besides, Vicente is old news, hes played in 20+ games in 2 yrs out of about 85+. He’s not in their plans. If he was why would they be going after (Kallstrom, Sneidjer, Van der Vaart..all play where Vicente plays) all offseason and then getting Fernandes. Besides, all offseason, Cesar, you were looking forward and HOPING Valencia would sign a Attacking Mid-fielder. All summer. Now,where would have Vicente started of even played, if he was so valuble to the squad. RIGHT? JOAQUIN’S side. Left? DAVID SILVA is there. Center Mid? ALBELDA, the captain and ANGULO, or Some big name summer signing. But Now we got FERNANDES there and he will start. YES! oh YES!So last but not least CESAR, Im your friend to help you get over the Break-up. I’ll be the one to pick you up after you let him go. Its not your fault you cheated on ‘em. HE WASNT GOOD ENOUGH FOR YOU!!
Trust me dude, THERES PLENTY OF FISH OUT IN THE SEA. AND WE JUST CAUGHT A WHALE WITH FERNANDES.
HE’S A JEWEL. A GEM.
And he’s healthy enough to survive the physicality that is the SPANISH LA LIGA.Posted from

Hey Sarrah.. I’m also from the Netherlands:) ben jij een meisje die fan is van Valencia?! dan ben je in nederland een van de weinige denk ik:p.. Ik ben ook groot fan! waar woon je ergens? GR Steef

Breaking up with someone is having enough faith and confidence that you can DO BETTER and FIND BETTER. AND THEY DID WITH FERNANDES. No one else complains of the med staff. Morientes and his shoulder. Anything?
Get rid of the weak and weak minded. Just find a player who has no injury problem, and is willing to work hard. Vicente is to brittle. Honestly, you cant say otherwise.
His name has been on the Injured List more times than David Villa’s has been in the scoring column. And we all know Villa scores ALL THE TIME.LOOK AND THINK POSITIVE CESAR. CANT EXPECT THE BEST IF UR IN DOUBT before and after the 2nd game(which they won!). Its not about the way they won. They got the result, while away, time to go home. NO EXTEA POINTS FOR STYLE of win.
A CRISIS IS NOT 3pts in 2 games.
A CRISIS IS 3 pts in 12 games.
A crisis is being behind LEVANTE after week 15.A CRISIS IS LOSING DAVID VILLA. TO THE FOLLOWING:
INJURY(*knock on wood.*Superstition)
CHELSEA
BARCA
REAL MADRID
MLS* not so much for me, if its Chicago.
ANYONEWe cant ever have a season that is not injury free if we have VICENTE ON THE TEAM.
EVERY ONE KNOWS THAT.Posted from

Franky, I can’t keep up with you!
:)
Maybe you’re right. I’ve jumped the gun *A LITTLE* … it is only 2 games, so we’ll see where we’re going here.
I’m used to jumping the gun with my sports teams. Look at my New York Jets …
Anyways, it’s a wait-and-see scenario … but let’s hope they get their act together sooner rather than later … I hope you’re right …Posted from

Hey Franky,
I agree that we’ve been quick to jump into panic mode over the indifferent start to the season.. pretty glad to see it actually, it means that we’re holding our club to really high expectations, which we should
I disagree totally with your Vicente analysis though. I can’t know the true story of the going ons at the Mestalla but Valencia’s medical staff hardly inspires confidence given this entire affair. An in form Vicente, would dislodge Silva from the left flank and force him to play up front with Villa… yeah I said it. Haha.
I know you think he’s washed up but watch him closely when he returns to full fitness..
BTW, Cesar, Franky and anyone else close to NYC; lets try meeting up at Nevada’s for the Valladolid game. Cesar and I had a little mix up last time for the Villareal game but hopefully we can get our penya off the ground… AMUNT!

Vicente is no old news yet. He was doing great despite on paper, should be losing big match sensitivity, due to absence. He did great in the few matches he participated in last season. Let’s say he saved Valencia and Quique in a way or another. I don’t know how do fans look at the story, but I feel Vicente is still the most beloved Valencianista due to his effective role. Chelsea had an injured Rubben, Man United had the injured Solskajaer, and Milan has the injured Maldini. They never felt they should get rid of them unless the players asks to leave/retire.

To Daniel, George, Cesar, and anyone else who thinks we need Vicente:
We need to let him go. He is old news and washed up. How can someone be hurt so many times playing in the most technical league in the world. Did he have a broken leg from a tackle, did he hurt his head, going up for a Corner Kick?
I understand you all feel sentimental for what he has done in the past, but being out injured for now what will be 3 seasons, does not in any way help out situation. The team has not cut him, traded him or rumored to. But now is the time.
I would rather have someone out there who is dressed weekly all season and sees maybe 10 matches all year b/c of coaches decision, than Vicente who is to be the focal point of the team, plays for less than 20 games, and at the most important games, comes out injured.
And Daniel, if you think David Silva needs to play FWD and Vicente play his role in the midfield, then why have Morientes, Zigic, Juan Mata, Angulo, and Arizmendi on the team? What role will they play? You wanted signings and now not see them on the field?
Why dont you guys want to see Fernandes play? What do you have against him? He’s Vicente + 100. And hes a big signing at $18 mil euros. But no instead,
you want David Silva, an up coming prodigy, who plays in the mid with the national team, play in a rotation up front with all those players. Silva’s best attributes are poise and vision, not dribbiling and scoring. Sorry my friend, your really wrong. Face all you Vicente admirers, there is no room for him and we are going to have to move on. I like Valencia’s Future. Hey Cesar, I’ll put my money on Buying a Fernandes Jersey, right now! He’s gonna make you all say Vicente? Who’s that?–>Franky

Ok Franky i guess we’ll see when Vicente recovers, but no one in the list of players you’ve named (Morientes, Zigic, Juan Mata, Angulo, and Arizmendi) is better than an in form Vicente… they’re all much needed cover IMHO
Fernandes doesn’t play Vicente’s position plus I have nothing against him.. he and Sunny should be the future of the central midfield
