Copa Del Rey Reactions

silva.jpgNot bad last night against Atletico Madrid …

Watched the match after work on a one hour delay although I knew the score at halftime (any one else have that problem? You know you’re going to watch a match later in the day but as it’s going on, you just *HAVE* to check the score and ruin it for yourself …).

Quick hits:

- We played great. No doubt about it. I liked the energy, the flowing style of play, the attacking philosophy of the play and the passion of the team.

But I really think we should have killed the match in the 2nd half. We may rue the wasted opportunity come the away leg next week. Atletico was down to 10 men, we controlled possession, we controlled the midfield and we still couldn’t put the game away … the positives are that we played better than we have in ages. The negatives are that we couldn’t put the tie away when we had the chance.

- David Villa looked like the Villa of old. Energetic, lively, passionate. Must really want a transfer, huh?

- Miguel looked good as well. He’s gotten beefy, eh?

- Maduro? Early impressions are positive. I like the way he creeps into the box and makes himself known. He’s a solid midfielder, from early impressions. He does look a little like old buddy John Carew, no?

- Joaquin looked unstoppable when he came on. Silva played well. As did Vicente, although I believe he might have lost a step.

Overall, it was a great performance from a team that’s lacked even decent performances the past few months. It’s something positive. Let’s see if this can continue in the weeks to come.

yeah if we played all our games like this we would be in the top four. Though our defence did look fairly shakey every time Forlan and aguero got to teh ball. The good news .. our midfield rarely let them get to the ball. And Miguel Joaquin combination was making them so nervous if only the crossing was more acurate.

all in all great game.. but yeah not putting the nail in the coffin was bad.

The highlights were unbelievable… there was this team playing flowing attacking football, walking around the opposition… and strangely enough the players on that team were wearing Valencia jerseys..

The very least I expect is that we have a display like this against Almeria at the weekend. Hopefully we won’t regret not scoring 3 next week
