Cesar Who?
By: Cesar | January 23rd, 2009
Now that the alcohol has left my system, I’m happy to report I’m back in fighting shape, 100% recovered from my DC/Obama escapade and ready to get hammered again this weekend.
First, thanks to everyone for the updates. Too bad I missed one of our better matches of the season against Sevilla in the Copa Del Rey. But after the bitter Athletic Bilbao match Sunday, it’s probably a good idea I didn’t watch the match and ruin all the good will I’d built up over the week.
What is up with the offsides not called in the match? Are you for real?
That has to be one of the most abysmal calls I’ve ever seen in any sport EVER … the Sevilla player was a clear 200 feet offside yet the linesman, apparently paid off by some Andalucian mobster, refused to call the obvious.
Shameful. Spanish officiating is already considered some of the worst in the world. This only confirms it. People like to say video reviews would dampen the Beautiful Game, but here’s an instance where a look at the video tape might have helped us out.
The head of Spanish ‘officiating’, Sánchez Arminio, apologized for the incident, his voice lowered in embarrassment.
Really? Really?!? How about instead of making nonsensical apologies that do nothing to avert what happened, you fix the situation on the field?
For too long, supporters of clubs not named Real Madrid and Barcelona have complained of the lack of respect afforded by the referees. We all know these officials, who come to the field of play from their day jobs in the capital and the other big city, are awed by the presence of players like Raul and Xavi.
Still, you’d think that being professionals, they’d take the time to roll up their tongues long enough to call the game down the middle. I guess that’s too much to ask for, especially from what’s essentially a very well-paid volunteer.
While this wasn’t a case of ‘Oh my! Look at me! I’m on the same field as Robben!!,’ it was a putrid call and one that shifted the balance of the tie. A simple 1-0 by Sevilla at home and they’re through.
Instead of apologizing, fix the system … you’re losing fans doing it the old way. People won’t stand for this for too long …
Ok, now that that’s out of my system …
David Villa won’t be playing in this Sunday’s match against Real Mallorca.
Villa should be back for the Copa del Rey return-leg against Sevilla next week.
Along with Villa, Joaquín may not make the match at the weekend as he is struggling with an injury that he picked up Wednesday against Sevilla.
Ok, Pisha is injured. Nothing we can do there. But the over-reliance on Villa will cost us this week.
He’s not a machine and needs his rest, after all. Hopefully, coach Unai Emery can learn a lesson here: Football players aren’t made of steel. They need rest after all.
Back-up striker anyone?
The other big news of the week concerns the signing of former Real Madrid ‘keeper Cesar Sanchez to replace Renan, who is out for up to a month.
The 37-year old says that he feels like a kid again. I hope so, because he’s getting up there in years.
The former Tottenham stopper hadn’t played much in England. He says that he has “trained hard” with the London side and doesn’t anticipate any medical problems.
“I have just arrived and I should pass the medical exam and then be presented,” he told the press.
“I hope that everything turns out well, and that I can contribute and help wherever I am asked.”
Regarding a possible start for him this Sunday he didn’t sound optimistic, saying, “that is a lot to ask right now.”
He did speak briefly about his new club, declaring that they “play good football and are fighting for the league” but, like all the other teams only have a chance “if Barcelona slip up.”
At least he’s realistic.
This is a move we had to make. With Renan hurt, Vicente Guaita and his awful haircut weren’t going to cut it. Cesar should fit right in and be adequate until Renan comes back, maybe even fighting the Brazilian for a starting spot.
So I guess you can say I like the signing.
Guaita may need to pick up some valuable shifts at Manolo’s in February. Maybe we can move Hugo Viana’s schedule around some? Honestly, why is he even here?
One thing I did like about the signing is that it’s nice to see a guy named Cesar playing for the club. Maybe that should be my next Valencia kit.
Cesar – Number 1. I like the sound of it.
On a sidenote, I have photos of the secret meeting me and Timothy Lakefront had in DC after the inauguration and after our battle with the Real Madrid bloggers. I’m not sure I’m ready to post them yet, as I’d like to keep our identities secret. But once I figure that little bit out, you’ll be the first to know …

but vicente can’t play on the right. i’m cool with giving pablo a chance, he’s had flashes of brilliance in some uefa and copa del rey games.

Silva can play on the right (he was pretty solid last year over there). I think we can give Pablo a chance even though I dont think he is that great.
Its going to be a tough match for us, especially without Villa. We need the old guard to rise again! Cmon Pipo!!!

I think Morientes isnt that bad this year…he has been very effective when he gets the chance. Let’s not forget he was never flashy but when he is around the goal he really misses the target. All he needs is good service and with Silva (and possibly Vicente) I think he would be very useful. He seems to play best when a 2nd striker like Villa is around and maybe Silva can play that role against Mallorca.

Does anyone has Emery’s cell number? i wana call him and ask him what was he thinking loaning out Zigic? and how does he feel now that hes stuck with 2 useless dinasours that are way past thier prime!
Formation:
Cesar
miguel albiol maduro moretti
albelda baraja
pablo silva mata vicentei wish wed play without a known striker, where all the front four could become a striker at any point, ex. rotating on occupying the striker position. tht would cause mallorca’s defence to go nuts!

Hee people, what would you guys think of Ustari as a new goalie this summer? 22 years old and playing at Getafe, i think he will be great in just a few years!!! Since Asenjo will probably be gotten by the very top clubs, i think he could be great for us! Make a trade with Renan

I think he is injured now but check this dude out

@ Johnnie: Ustari would be a good choice
But I still have hopes for Asenjo! I mean would he go to a team that already have a top quality goalkeeper or would he prefer a team with no real goalkeepers like us?Posted from

The thing about Asenjo that is so great is he’s only 19 and already playing better than most national team goalkeepers these days. Just give him a year or two and he would be world class.

@ Spoon: I can’t actually answer your questions because you are a time traveling alien and I’m not ready to go back to the future with marty mcfly yet. sorry.
@ all: I’m worried. No El Guaje? Bad. No Joaquin? Bad. Our defensive line all healthy? Still bad. The boys are going to need a taser to their ass to pull out a win, I’m sorry to say. I’m predicting (and hoping) for a tie.

@DJ
I think we can pull a win no problem. Assuming we play just a normal game we can win. Mallorca is really not good.Posted from

@Xes
You’re right…I got my clubs mixed up and was thinking Malaga who has been playing exceptionally well at home as of late. But ya…we definitely SHOULD be able to pick up the three points Sunday. However, the thin frontline still has me worried. It might be much closer of a game than it rightfully should be.Posted from

Without Villa we can’t get take the lead in less than 10 mins

anybody thinking of Vicente as a striker?
i’ve already thought of him as Villa’s 2nd striker we’re thinking of.. and i think he’ll do very good.. he’s fast, accurate, dribbler, and a finisher.. and he’s Vicente! i really would like it if Emery tries him there..

I’ve always wanted to see him Villa both up front. Not up front in the sense that they usually are… but actually as strikers! But anyway yes I’d stick Vicente up there, I think he’s got all the skills needed

So I just read this in as.com… City has reportedly offer 73million Euros PLUS either Elano or Jo for David Villa (all according to the english press…)
IF this is true… I really hate to say this, but I’d definitely consider it.

Of course this would be done in summer. Obviously

@ Xes: 73ME plus Elano AND Jo sounds better

guys i think we need a backup striker to finish in the top four….i think we can get saviola on loan!!!
what do u think ,he will get us goals and doesnt complainPosted from

well finally carleto is in the squad….
but where did fernandez go? IS he injured? or suspended?Posted from
United States

-

@ siva
fernandez picked up red card in athletic match so he is suspended

@ siva : Saviola would be pretty good, but he provides the same type of play as Villa and Mata (those short quick strikers type of play)..I think we need someone a bit like Morientes (or at least at his level 5 years ago). Im not saying we should get another Zigic as he was too slow and too tall, but someone with a bit of height would add another dimension to the team.
Of course another problem with Saviola is that he has such a a high wage….the reason why he is at Madrid doing nothing becoz other teams cant afford his salary.
