Blah Blah: The State of Valencia CF
By: Cesar | February 20th, 2009
Sorry for the delay in posting, but there’s only so many times I can say the same things:
- We need to play better.
- Our economic situation is the pits.
- Our defense is rubbish.
- Vicente Soriano will sort this out soon.
Blah, blah and blah. It’s the same sh*t every day.
Nothing’s changed. Nothing’s happening.
You think I’m apathetic to the situation? Imagine what the team feels.
I write this blog for free because I love Valencia CF and love meeting fellow supporters of the club. I don’t mind doing it for free (although being paid wouldn’t be so bad, either … hello, Offside?).
But think how David Villa, Vicente, David Albelda and Ruben Baraja feel. Sure, they have their savings to draw on. But they’re not being paid to play. They’re not being paid to ply their trade, lace up their boots and give it their all on the pitch.
Naturally, morale has to be down in the dressing room. Players are undoubtedly questioning their decision to remain with this ‘loosey-goosey’ club. In other words, things aren’t right with this ship.
Last year was a roller-coaster ride of a season. Being in the Champions League, being near relegation and winning the Copa Del Rey will do that to you. Ronald Koeman’s antics, Juan Soler’s manipulating and the David’s style of play (Silva and Villa) both captivated and caused us anxiety.
This season? It’s passion-less.
Maybe I’m wrong. Last season, the ups and downs of the Koeman/Soler/QQ/Carboni saga put us through the ringer. But at least we knew the club was fighting. They won a title. They stayed in La Liga.
This season, I see less passion, less fight, less excitement from the squad.
Take for example their 1-1 draw against Kiev.
I mean, really. Was that a good game?
I know, we played with some reserves. But remember, coach Unai Emery said he wanted this game to springboard us after some lackluster play in the league.
Instead, we failed to thrill, save some nice Cesar saves and a brilliant Silva goal.
Heck, Dynamo went down to ten men and outplayed us for the rest of the match!!
This isn’t the Valencia I remember from back in the day. Then again, that Valencia is well done and buried. This is the Valencia I think we’re going to see from now on.
And I’m scared we’re turning into a mid-table club, selling our stars to stay afloat, fighting for a UEFA Cup spot season after season.
It’s scary and it sucks … and I want that feeling to go away.
Maybe I’m being overly dramatic? Sentimental?
I don’t know …

@ Lillo. http://uk.eurosport.yahoo.com/football/valencia-cf/ click on FIXTURES/RESULTS, then pick the game. They have team and player stats. They don’t have stats for the Copa del Rey games, but they have stats for la liga and UEFA Cup matches.

@ Lillo. Silva plays on the right for Spain? Hunh, didn’t know that. I just remember at Euro 2008 when he scored he came from the left side of the pitch.

@ Timothy
dont overrate me mate, i dont know shit about football but its nice to hang around and meet fellow alcoholics here so thats why i visit
I agree with Lillo as i also told before, there is no cohesion between midfield and defence. I get irritated by it a lot, either i see us playing with 6 defenders cause of Baraja and Albelda almost playing as a CB the entire time, thus leaving huge spaces between attack and midfield, OR i see them up front totally leaving the back opened up thus creating problems for our already shaky backline. What’s up with our midfield, it is where our defensive problems start! Put Fernandes in please Emery!!
Also, about Silva and our attack, i agree he might have been scoring but he has not been creating a lot chances. That can also be related to the bad midfield positioning of the CMF’s, but we need him for the creativity in the center. Cause the Valencia attack might score goals, our attacking style has been soooo predictable ever since Aimar left! We only use our wings, we have great wingers but it seriously is the only thing we do. And why? We dont have Zigic up front so whats up with that? We need Silva to make us attack through the center!!!
But than again, like i said, he doesnt get any support in midfield so he doesnt get into play. And thats why i repeat again, we should play more as a team, communicate, keep lines, keep positions, and start controlling the game! For our backline, FUCK THE OFFSIDE TRAP! They suck at doing it, but they keep trying…
I also hope Fernandes will remove Baraja from his spot, plus we should get Banega back. With those to and Silva in some sort of center triangle, i think our midfield could have a very strong dominance in every game… Guess we’ll have to wait for it and hope Emery sees what we see… Amunt

Here is the squad for tomorrow
GK: Cesar, Guaita
DEF: Maduro, Marchena, Alexis, Carlos David, Del Horno
MID: Angulo, Joaquin, Vicente, Baraja, Fernandes, Pablo, Mata, Michel
ST: Villa, Silva, MorientesCesar will PROBABLY start. Emery said he didn;t want to include Alexis in the squad, but because of injuries to Moretti, Miguel, and MARCHENA (YAY!), Alexis is in the squad.
That’s right, Marchena picked up a knock in training, so he might not play, I hope not.
Interesting that Carleto isn’t in the squad, and Valencia reserve Carlos David, or David Carlos (I’m not sure which) is in. Looks like Emery thought Carleto was rubbish against Malaga.
I think the lineup will be
————Cesar
Angulo–Maduro–Alexis–Del Horno
——–Baraja—Fernandes
Joaquin—–Silva—-Mata
———-VillaHopefully Marchena doesn’t play. If he DOES miss the game, 3 points guaranteed to LOS CHE! AMUNT!

AHAHA Nice! Every time I ask my cousin about Forlàn, he says:
Forlan had the worst missed goal of the history of Football.
He IS the definition of choker! He was supposed to be a superstar during his short days at Manchester United, but he never materialized his potential. Even Villareal let him go! So, it doesn’t surprise me!
Anyway, it seems that there are a double debate between the Silva’s affair (Is he out of form or not?) and the Emery’s one (Is he a good coach or not?) It’s very interesting…

goal.com is retarded. It says in their preview that Albelda wii start at right back and that he will be important. Valencia’s official web site and AS have put out the squad for the Depor match, and neither has Albelda in the squad, period. I fucking hate goal.com. Link to squad for Depor match on Valencia web site… http://translate.google.com/translate?prev=_t&hl=en&ie=UTF-8&u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.valenciacf.com%2Fcontenidos%2FActualidad%2FNoticias%2F2009%2F02%2FNoticia_17375.html&sl=es&tl=en&history_state0=

I think Silva started off on the left flank for us (Isn’t that where he scored that CL goal against Chelsea from) but then moved to center and right as well.
As for Emery, there is a lot going on with the club that is totally out of his control. Apart from the fact that he can’t buy any players, and has to go through speculation of losing his best players day in day out, he also has a bunch of players who haven’t been paid and are apparently low on morale. So can’t really compare his situation with that of last season. The one compliant i have is the team that he picks every match, in spite of seeing how weak the same midfield has been performing.

@ Nithin. You are 100% right about everything in your last post. I couldn’t agree more.

Adimante, what the hell? O.o
Villareal let him go? Yeah, something to do with the 21 million euros they received. I’d imagine. Not a bad fee to receive having paid just 1 million euros to sign him eh
Forlan is a fantastic player but he only scores fantastic goals. If chances are too easy for him he pretends he miskicks them and puts them wide or over, the truth is he has a youtube account and wants as many views as possible. The key is to score great goals and make great misses.
Here’s one from his Manchester United days.

@ KYLE…..Albelda is definitely not playing because of yellow cards, he is also not playing against Kiev on Thursday for the same reason.
I see we are taking another sub from 2ndb who are desparately trying not to get relegated (lost to Benidorm last week)If we have to take someone again to sit on the bench , why not Viana, the poor guy has done little else. 23 Liga matches without appearing once although he did put up a good show in an earlier Copa del Rey game.He is only 26, 5`11 tall and a left footer
and ex international for Portugal. Here is a video showing his incredible work for Newcastle.

Look at it and enjoy…We are very slow at giving players a chance, for example Zigic, In his first six games for Racing he has scored in 5 of them, something wrong somewhere, when we are short of players.Posted from

@ Ali
yeah fuck, its already a miracle Valdes lasted all these years, but once Asenjo comes in, they will lose even less! S***!!!@ bob
Last years carnaval i was in Switzerland im afraid, but we have carnaval in the Netherlands (fucking missing it again!) and its my favorite party of the year man. Loads of beer, women, partying and sleeping is the only thing u do… Gotta love it
Where did u go exactly btw?Posted from

@ Almendras
i agree, and i always believed in Viana but somehow he just doesn’t seem to get his vibe on at VCF. But the least Emery can do is give him a chance, i mean it cant be that he was so good 4 years ago and totally sucks right now. Even let him play in the second team so he gets some rhythm and than get him back, but dont waste him in the stands like this…Posted from

emery is good in some departments and is sooooo stupid in others…ex leaving zigic to go on loan and banega! and recently not including carleto…
he should have included carleto… because what u need to gov ehim is confidence, okai dnt lett him play but at least include him! carleto must feel like shit right now, and thts not how u treat a talent, even if he sucked in his first apearence! emery is putting himself into further problems than he already has!
Emery is his own enemy!Posted from

HAHA LILLO! You’re right! Like that, when you score a great goal, nobody expects that and they all get stunned! I say, if he had scored, it would have been so boring. A wide open goal… there’s no challenge in it. So, to amaze people, he missed! Yup! Everything for the show!
Well, I can’t imagine that they sold him for 21 millions Euro. Good old Forlan!

Almendras, Viana was a huge dissappointment for Newcastle. They paid slightly less for him at the same time we bought Ronaldo and Barcelona bought Quaresma. He was supposed to be as promising as the other two… He didnt last long at Newcastle. Does have a good left foot but little else.
