Beyond Frustrated …
By: Cesar | March 31st, 2008I’m beyond frustrated after watching yesterday’s 3-0 thrashing of Valencia by Real Mallorca …
What more is there to say?
All the whining in the world isn’t going to make us any better, make us win games at home (we’ve only won 4 matches at home, worst in Spain) or keep us in contention for Europe (the Cup’s our only hope).
I watched a team get outclassed, outhustled and outplayed time and again by what I thought was a pretty inept Mallorca team.
Yet Mallorca destroyed us.
I’m not trying to wind anyone up, but Mallorca’s goals were all Valencia’s fault.
The first one? The defense fell asleep or missed assignments (especially Maduro) and Güiza slotted the ball past Timo Hildebrand …
The second? Free kick. Nothing anyone could do. Well-placed delivery by Iván Ramis.
The third? A pretty header by Güiza; a helpless Timo just stood and let the ball go in …
We had our chances. Silva came close before the break, Baraja had a few shots, Villa played with the ball some and Mata shot a ball into the Valencian sky (and into the bars across the street) …
Just a poor, poor performance … simply dreadful …
If you can stomach it (keep a pail handy), here are the ‘highlights’ … (the video’s a bit shaky, but it’s the best I could find …)
The crowd called for Ronnie Koeman’s head. It’s like the same script from when QQ Sanchez Flores was here … but can you blame the fans?
We were thought of as one of the better teams in Europe before the season started.
Now look at us! In a relegation battle … 6 points from the drop.
Of the 57 points Koeman has contested in the league, he’s won 18 … 18!!!!! That’s preposterous … utterly unacceptable …
Just think of where we’d be if we had not gotten 21 points from QQ before he was fired?
Now David Villa is probably out of the Copa Del Rey final with an injury and Maduro might not make it either …
Oh jeez … is this a nightmare? What happened??
This isn’t being negative, a flip-flopper or too depressing. This is reality … our club is the pits … what the %$&* happened to us??
Really, what happened?

Hello mates.
I was just watching highlights of our 1999-2000 UCL Quarter final against Lazio to, I guess, have Valencia make me smile rather than cringe in disgust.
The standard of play of our team today is a far cry from the glory days of Mendieta, Claudio Lopez, Kily et al. rampaging 5-2 over a Lazio team with Veron and Inzaghi in it eh..? Let alone the Benitez era..whom I still think should have been kept on our bench…oh well.
On a positive note, nice blog Cesar - It’s nice to be able to read what other fans of Valencia think.

What the hell… Looking at those highlights makes me feel like this is a sick April fool’s joke (speaking of which, Goal.com had the best I’ve ever seen). It’s becoming clearer and clearer to me we need defenders.. multiple defenders.. I’d have no complaints if over the summer we signed 3 quality defenders and no one else.. Let Villa leave, and Zigic (good riddance), but we’ll still be way stronger up front than we are at the back right now. Hell, I swear these defenders look like schoolboys just days after holding their own against Barca and Madrid. I’m left to assume that against Barca and Madrid the only thing that propelled us was the adrenaline of playing against the top two if we fall apart against teams like Mallorca.. Koeman vete ya! Agustin, buy some defenders!

Haha, Daniel I guess you saw that post today as well. As a furia roja fan, I almost leapt out of my chair at work when I saw that joke on goal dot com. After a terrible week regarding Valencia, I could least rest well and have faith that at least Spain was on track to do very well this summer in the Euro Cup, which would be uplifting given the terrible season we’ve all gone through this year. Thus, I was in no mood for that cruel joke they played on me today. Be that as it may, I say well played, they got me (at least for a few moments). Cesar and Daniel, my plans have changed a little bit–I’m coming to NYC a week later than previously planned: April 18 for the Bilbao match. Hopefully we will be able to celebrate our recent cup victory then (i.e. have 9 pints each) but we’ll see. You guys gonna be in town?
