Best Fans in the World
By: Cesar | November 13th, 2008
Valencia CF have the best fans in the world.
At least that’s what team president/owner Vicente Soriano thinks after the club sold out of their new club memberships.
Valencia wanted 2,600 new members to raise badly needed funds.
“Our supporters have proven again that they are the best in the world,” Soriano said. “This is a show of extraordinary proportions that proves that. In difficult times they have clearly shown how passionate they are and that their support is limitless and should be admired. I want to thank everyone for showing such faith in the club and every employee, director, player and coach knows that we have to give our best to repay the fans.”
So how about a Champions League spot, a UEFA Cup, a Copa del Rey and a La Liga championship? Is that too much to ask for? Oh, how about 2 or 3 world-class players? Maybe Kaka?
Ok, I’m getting ahead of myself. But at least the fans are behind the team, through thick and through thin. Even if they boo … a lot …
Speaking of the Copa del Rey, we’re on our way to the last 16 after a 3-0 shellacking of Portugalete last night. Two important notes …
1 – Angulo was injured and is out for a month and a half. Shucks …
2- The debut of Valencia protege Michel … who?? I dunno, but the ‘Net’s been raving about the kid since the game yesterday, where he capped off a lovely passing move inside the area by finishing confidently past Portugalete ‘keeper Borja, marking his official debut with a goal.
Besides that, a nice goal by Pablo and a decent effort by Zigic and it amounts to a solid Valencia victory.
Mind you, it’s against vastly inferior competition. But a win’s a win, no?
Next up? Sporting Gijon …
And then the fun begins. A deadly streak against the biggest clubs in Spain, beginning with Sevilla. Three points in this match would be nice …
Two notes about this match … first off, goal.com was nice enough to say we’d win the affair …
Sporting are more than capable of beating most teams in La Liga, but it is against the big boys that their comical defence comes unstuck. Having conceded six against Barcelona, and seven against Real Madrid, a similar thrashing could be on the cards here. Their recent revival may aid them in reducing the margin of defeat, but it will still be a comfortable three points for Los Che.
Valencia 4-1 Sporting Gijon
Second, it’s David Villa’s return to his original club, where he scored 38 goals in three seasons.
Can’t see El Guaje celebrating too much should he score. But hopefully, he scores. A lot …

Hey, that’s not bad scratch if you ask me. No one asked me, but …
How many will be in Valencia? I should try to go! Ya know, if there wasn’t an economic collapse in my country …

Angulo is a decent support player and a good alternate him being injured limits the creativity of the second unit that plays uefa cup and copa del rey games. most of the criticism of angulo being a bad striker is overblown Angulo has only played as an out and out striker when Valencia play’s the “b” team for copa del rey and uefa cup matches, when he plays in la liga matches he plays a supporting role behind Villa and does a decent job of passing the ball and keeping plays going.
Zigic does not fit into emery’s system because his is extremely slow and is useless with the ball at his feet. if Zigic were to start as a striker Valencia would loose its ability to run quick plays and counterattacks. Valencia also hardly ever cross the ball high so his heading ability would not be put to much use.

Everytime I saw Angulo with a ball, 90% time it ended up at the foot of the opponent. He could do nothing with the ball. That being said, he used to have his days and is always humble and a good person. I wish him well.
Zigic is slow and everything, but he does provide another dimension for our boys. We sometimes cross into the box and couldn’t find any target beside 1.74 Villa and 1.70 Mata and, you expect them to score a header?? Plus, we do have excellent crossing from Joaquin and Miguel from the right side, and Vicente from left side.

@Cesar, if I get this job in NYC – while a long shot, I believe – I will be a weekly fixture at Nevada’s and a proud member of the nascent penya. You should definitely go to Valencia in April for the Barca game. Sounds like a bunch of us will be there. Amunt. FYI – Green St Hooligans is a decent movie, Frodo’s horrible acting notwithstanding.

Im just wondering about something here, do u know how many of the 53,000 seats are season tickets? I mean I know we get a lot of empty seats sometimes, but are those the season ticket owners?

cesar, not seen that film but saw fottball factory,i know some of the people in that film as they used real thugs for the fight scenes,im told its the best of that genre.there is a panorama documentory on millwall floating about the net, that is worth watching,no violence but interviews with some of the trouble makers, this is twenty years before the celebrity cult of football hooigans and goes someway to explain millwalls particular problems.

by the way does anyone on here have plans to be at iether the last game at the mestalla or the first game at the new ground (it will never be NEW MESTALLA,for me but always the JABBADOME)

Well I think the original plan of some here was to be at the last game at Mestalla this season, but than they changed the date of the club moving stadium and so i dont know the exact plan, i’ll probably wont make it cause i have Uni and ill be in Egypt a week before. But I guess around the 26th of April some will come to Valencia…?!
@Fayez, well i read that we almost surpassed the 50′000 socios, most of them will have a season ticket. Dont pinn me on this one but it seems to me that over 40′000 seats are occupied by ticketholders, at least.

let’s stop this Angulo shit guys.. !
we will not care about him or miss him (though we will because we can use him a RB) Angulo played in every possible position.. he even played on the stands! hahah..anyone read about selling the Mestalla will bring us 209 million Euros.. Soriano said that.. i am reading it now but the google translator is SO WONDERFUL THAT YOU CAN UNDERSTAND SOME BITS! isn’t there any decent translator in this world!
have fun guys!

I think for next year they budgetted 209 million income for the sale of Mestalla which will be completed before the 30th december 2008. The total revenue of the sale will be around 300 million (89,8 million already included in this years budget), with an expected 350 million for the future exploitation of Jabbadom / Nuevo Mestalla. So for next year we would generate a nett profit of around 98 million it seems, while this season we had a nett profit of 30 million so it seems.
But, its not all good since the club will have to pay short-term debts of 43 million in the months until June 30th, and another 252,4 million in the next years to solve all our debts, with a huge debt payment of 205 million in the season 2010/2011. But, than it is budgetted that Valencia will be playing in the new stadium and we will have a higher revenue plus the money for the commercialisation of the new stadium. All in all, we got big debts to pay the next few years, but also big incomes / revenues coming up to lets hope it all works out.

Lively action on the blog these days Cesar. Sad to hear about Angulo’s injury. Sure the man can’t play for shit but he’s the most diehard Valencia player within the last decade without question. Turned down Arsenal to stay with us a couple years ago (WTF was Arsene thinking?), and he always wears his heart on his sleeve.
Great news that Mata’s been called up to the Spain squad! About 3 or 4 months overdue, but hopefully he’ll get a few minutes in the friendly against Chile

I think after his amazing performance against Getafe Joaquin should definitely get called up to the Spanish squad..

Hey I cannot understand at all this joy that Valencia players are called up for some stupid friendly game against Chile. We´ve lost Angulo for 6 weeks, showing the importance of playing the 2nd team in lesser events.
Incidently I have seen Angulo play very very well in right defence. When you look at Van Nisteloy this week,an operation and 8 MONTHS recuperation it shows the importance of cutting down on our major players appearances. After tonight,We are now looking at November 19th Chile….22nd Seville´….27th Rosenburg….30th Betis….4th Dec. Brugges….7th Barca
Then we get 7 days break. How can any team maintain quality and results with all that pressure.7 GAMES IN 21 DAYS….Sheer madness !! AlmendrasPosted from

@ Daniel:
“In the summer of 2004, Angulo pulled out of a transfer to Arsenal FC after a last minute change of heart. His agent claimed this was due to the player’s anxiety at moving to London. Angulo had already completed part of his medical.”An Oviedo-born player who didnt turn down Arsenal because of Valencia, no he turned it down because he was scared of London. Furthermore, the reason why i think he never left is cause no other team equaling the quality or level of Valencia ever was interested. So why leave when you can stay at the top (especially in 2000-2004)

Hey, Some of you are beginning to sound like Koeman. Why are you throwig all this mud at Angulo. He,s been with Valencia all his life, now 14 seasons.Won Eurocup in 1995 in under 18s then another cup in 1998 under 21s. In 1999 8 goals in Liga 2 more in Copa and 2 more in European, even the season before last he scored 10 goals in these events, the same as Silva and he is not even a forward. So lets look for another chopping block eh! Baraja has scored 8 goals in the last 3 years and Vicente
only 9 ……………..ALMENDRASPosted from
