Begin!
By: Cesar | September 11th, 2008
I’ve been away from the blog for various reasons, here and there.
So to get myself back into the groove, I’m going to blog about our beloved Valencia CF for 30 straight days, beginning today.
Let’s see if that holds up.
Ok, enough about me. What’s up with our football club?
The big news of the week concerns our diminutive midfielder David Silva, who looks to be out of action for the next three months.
Bad news, yes. But in context, at least it’s at the beginning of the season.
Also, Vicente is more than ready to step in. Now, we know a strong gust of wind could knock Vicente over and he’d be out for the season. But something tells me the local Valencian superstar is primed and ready to take over Silva’s shoes.
Silva says the thought of being out so long sucks, but what can you do? That’s life.
“An injury like this can make you feel low, but I know that I have friends and, above all, my family who will always raise my morale and that is important,” he told AS. Don’t forget us, Davey. Don’t forget us.
“I’ve suffered various knocks before but none that have required an operation to repair. I recovered before and have not had any problems. Unfortunately, if I do need an operation then I could be out of action for almost three months.”
The ankle injury had been bothering Silva for some time and he decided that an investigation was required and he is delighted that coach Unai Emery gave him his full support.
“A point came when I couldn’t do any more and I had to take action. I am calm,” he continued.
“When I was in Madrid having the tests I spoke to the coach and he told me he had complete confidence in me and that was great. It’s not only good to hear these things when you are playing, but also at times like this. The problem will not disappear and I have been waiting for some time. We will find out the results and then decide.”
Big ups, Davey.
Our beloved visit Almeria on Sunday, where coach Emery skippered from 2006 to 2008.
So what’ll happen should Valencia score on his former club? He’ll celebrate, of course.
By the way, check out this video of Unai scoring a goal for Real Sociedad back in the day. It’s the only goal he ever scored for the club and it’s shown about 60 times, but it’s still a hoot.
As we all know, we’re living in the Age of Villa. David Villa is quite possibly the striker of fashion in world football right now, scoring goals left and right for the national team and playing exceptional football with us.
Fellow striker Juan Manuel Mata thinks David is awesome.
“He is an example to follow due to his professionalism and how well he does things. Few strikers in the world can reach his level of efficiency, and it’s up to Valencia to utilize this.
In truth he and I have both been lucky in recent games and I hope that we can continue the streak for our club,” Mata said, tears streaking down his face.
Here are Villa’s goals against Armenia yesterday as proof of his awesome-ness. Bow before El Guaje.
One guy who is happy Villa stayed here instead of going to the Dark Side aka Real Madrid is former Dark Side ship captain Ivan Helguera.
“It’s true it’s difficult to say ‘no’ to Real Madrid because they’re a big club. But there’s also other important clubs like Valencia and sometimes it can be difficult to leave home, even for a club like Real Madrid.”
I kind of like Ivan better after that statement. And … it’s gone.
Goalie Timo Hildebrand hates Santiago Cañizares, claiming the ex-Valencia legend ‘has no style.’ Is it his hair, Timo?
“The criticism in the press aimed at me was strong and exaggerated a great deal,” Hildebrand wrote on his website.
“It is obvious that it is a question of character, when the main person in the media going against me is my old team-mate Cañizares. My opinion is that he has no style. But it is not that important because I can rise above these things. Obviously I was not happy with being replaced (by Renan against Mallorca). I was disappointed and angry.”
I hope he can gather himself, as I think he’ll be important for us one way or another this season. Renan played a decent first game, but he’s still green. Timo will have to step in between the pipes at some point. Good to see he has some passion, though.
Last but not least, what’s up with Valencia Experience?
They’re our shirt sponsor, but who are they?
A Google search turns up nothing. Ask anyone in Valencia and they’ll shrug their shoulders.
Apparently, Valencia are to take legal action against Valencia Experience following the company’s failure to make the first payment of their sponsorship agreement and a breakdown in talks between the two parties aimed at resolving the issue.
Valencia CF will continue to wear the Valencia Experience logo on their shirts, as wearing a shirt without a sponsor could land them in hot water with Nike, their kit sponsor.
Uggh, what a mess. But what else can we expect from Valencia CF? More tomorrow …

30 days straight, wow, will be a challenging but possible feat. I enjoy reading this blog, so thanking you ahead for our upcoming daily knowledge of our wonderful club. I can’t wait to see what’s in store tomorrow.
Shame about Silva but u made a good point Cesar, “at least it’s at the beginning of the season”. It makes things sound less pessimistic. Yes, i think it is Santi’s hair that doesnt have style, Timo just doesn’t like fake blonde maybe. It has to au naturel for him. Btw, Timo has his own website? For real?Posted from

Interesting that about “Valencia Experience”. I bought the new black shirt 2 days ago (looks fantastic) and I was wondering who they were. I thought they must be a city tourism initiative or something that the club had decided to support.
I guess if you have to wear a shirt with a sponsors name plastered across, one with the teams name on it is better than most – even if they do fail with payments…

Dammit Timothy!! I wish I could go to Valencia to see our team in action myself. Good luck with the 30 days of blogging Cesar. I oughta help too, given my current bout of unemployment (although I’ve made the argument to my mother that playing Metal Gear Solid 4 should count as a job until I finish beating it)

It is good to see that Vicente is back in form. I believe with him we don’t really have to worry that much when it comes to replaceing silva. Didn’t silva replace him first. I mean what is the difference if silva out we got vicente who is as equal as silva. and don’t tell me different because vicente has been the best left footed winger in the world for quite sometime. Sure he has been out for quite sometime but i believe that he will play a strong part in valencia season. You will see that he may get called up to national team once again if he keeps up his good performances.
