Bad News
By: Cesar | March 29th, 2007And this is why I hate international football.
Although Spain battled & won a hard-fought game against Iceland, 1-0 yesterday in the pouring Mallorcan rain, it was not without a price.
Valencia has lost striker Fernando Morientes for up to three weeks.
This means he’ll miss the entire tie against Chelsea in the quarterfinals of the Champions League.
Oh joy of joys!!

“He will need two weeks rest and another week to recover,” Spain team doctor Genaro Borras told reporters. Morientes sustained the injury when he fell awkwardly just before halftime. He had to leave the field immediately.
UGGH! I’m so frustrated!
So what do we do until then? Angulo as the second striker with Silva wide or Joaquin starting now, as he’s been quite lively the past few games?
Who still thinks we can get past Chelsea now? I’m gutted. Seriously.

Tough break. Maybe FIFA will compensate them if they lose to Chelsea. Yeah, right….

Losing Morientes sucks. I’m officially freaking out! (I know I should have faith in the rest of our squad but I’m always on edge for games like the CL one) Hopefully all the guys will be on their a-game and that we can get Vicente back. Does this mean we’re gonna have Angulo up front with Villa?

With or without Morientes we’ll beat Chelsea. I’m confident.

Urgh, horrid news. (Even though I’m not a los Che supporter, I groaned out loud when I read that El Moro was injured - he’s such a force in the Champions League.) Valencia’s luck with injuries this season is just freakish.
Hopefully Vicente will be fit? Silva and Villa aren’t too bad as a strike partnership, as long as Villa gets his form back. Well, good luck!

Good luck with the blog. It’s nice to see someone taking the initiative to shine a needed ray of light on such a fun, though at times frustrating, team.
Losing Morientes is a tough loss, but I prefer the Villa - Silva duo myself. Bigger question is probably if Angulo will start. I hope to God he doesn’t.
