Bad Decisions: Villa Out for 3 Games

By: Cesar | September 19th, 2008

The hot Valencia topic of the day concerns our victory against an over matched Maritimo side in the UEFA Cup on Thursday. 1-0 and from all accounts, not our most impressive performance.

With the game clearly in the bag, coach Unai Emery decided to send the rested David Villa into the game to seal the deal. Unfortunately, he got hurt.

Now, the bad news. David Villa could miss Valencia’s next three matches with the injury to his right knee.

No!

This is ridiculous. If you read my post from yesterday, you know I’m in strong disagreement with the coach over Villa’s introduction into the match. I understand the motive, but I don’t think it was the right decision.

Now, with David Silva missing for up to 3 months, we’re extremely bare up front. Honestly, do you trust Zigic? Morientes is a great striker, but he’s getting on in age.

Angulo? C’mon.
Vicente? He’ll injure himself waking up in the morning.
Mata? Sure, I like the lad. But without Silva and El Guaje in the game, will he be ok with the pressure on his shoulders?

What I’m trying to say is: Bad move, Emery. Bad decision.

Valencia’s doctors ran a series of tests on Villa today and announced that he is expected to be out of action for at least ten days.

Valencia play Osasuna this weekend, take on Málaga in a rare midweek outing and then play Deportivo in the following match.

Three matches. No Villa. No good. No good at all.

Alright we need to get over it. Villa is great but he isnt necessary to win. Morientes is very capable and if we pair him with Angulo up front or Mata we will be fine. We should play this against Ososuna

    Hildebrand
    Miguel Albiol Marchena Moretti
    Joaquin Edu(Albelda) Fernandes Vicente(Mata)
    Angulo(mata) Morientes

We have plenty of talent.. but we need to remove Joaquin from the silly central possition. He is a winger. And the Miguel to Joquin cross to Morientes will be key in this game.

Look at the “bright” side: we’ll finally know what we’re worth without our two superstars. I think Valencia could actually profit by Silva & Villa’s absence; if we’re getting some serious attitude & edge from the rest of the team, we should be able to beat the three sides we’re meeting next. The first ten games of the season are perfect for this kind od experiment since we’re mostly playing lesser teams.
The second part will be another thing, we’re clinching horns with the Big Guys (Real, Barca, Sevilla, Atletico…) and THEN we need to be complete.
Let’s face it, every team has problems with injuries, and Los Che will probably never have two equal teams of 11 to rotate the players.

    True, true.
Osasuna is a true plucky side though. They scare me.

from what i read Villa was examined today and will be Examined again later and Valencia put out an official statement saying he is in in doubt for Osasuna. Nothing about him missing 3 games. in fact it would be very odd if Villa missed the midweek game as Villa is walking on the injured ankle without need of assistance.

Moro can replace Villa and would be a starter for most teams in Spain but Emery only likes to play one froward. Valencia is much more than just Villa and Silva.

I was really shocked by the decision to include Villa yesterday. Let us not forget that Emery does not have any experience in European football and this was hopefully his first and last mistake. Playing without Silva and Villa upfront (especially without Baraja and Vicente) would be terrible and we would be very lucky to win against Osasuna.

uthamn who do we have as a replacement for silva? we might have a player to play in his place but is he as good? is he even close to silva? WE HAVE NO ATTACKK NOW! The only attacker we have is mata…cuz zigic, angolu , morientes they are all finishers, they cant play villa’s role, two different style of attacking on the field! a team could go on only with an attacking style that villa has, but a team cannot go with the attacking style tht zigic morientes have, unless they have a good feeder, like VDV or diego, and great crosses like beckham’s and veron;s. we have shitt!! not even one player can actually cross decently in our team!

Have some faith Cesar – Mata along with Vicente can do it! This will be Vicente’s year. Also Angulo and Moro are decent subs. Osasuna is rough and tough, but they have no attack. One nil is all we need! And please protect Vicente! Also it’s time for Ximo/Pisha/Joaquin to shine. Now if only Baraja and Albelda would get along?

Ali, Diego is a waste of time and eventually some idiotic club will pay 60 mil+ for him and within a year he will be on loan in Brazil. Diego looks special because Werder Bremen play Suicidal attacking football, when he plays for Brazil he is useless and usually if he plays as play maker Brazil does not score. van der Vart would not fit Emery’s system he is not good at short passing and is slower than Baraja. Valencia do not need any of those two players Angulo can play Silva’s play maker role easily like he used to do when Aimar was injured back in the day. Valencia do not lack dept when it comes to attacking options.

i totaly disagree with u john, silva is fast and accurate with his passes and can is very good with his feet, angulo is slow, he is bad with his feet, and he cant pass with accuuracy, now how can he replace silva?
as for diego i think he is a great player… and ronaldinho didnt do alot in world cup with brazil, does that mean hes bad? i dnt think he was and i dnt think he is! i see zigic angulo and morientes area all waste of money! they all should be kicked out and replaced.
The history of a player doesn’t make him a good player at the moment. enought is enough. we dnt have to stick with angulo and morientes because they were good 3 years ago, thats crazy!

What if, what if. It is always easy to say now that Villa is injured cause he got in the game, it was a mistake… First get the facts right mate, cause Villa is even on the list for the game against Osasuna, and they are almost sure he wont even be doubtful for Malaga. So 10 days, not really!

As for our squad, this is what i said when the transfer window closed. We so lack depth in this team, thats why we are not stronger than last year, only our coach is far better!!!! Angulo has never been good man, he has never been outstanding. Vicente wont play more than 2 games in a row (how sadly, cause im a huge fan!!), Zigic, lets not starts, Moro is a golden sub but cant make it on his own… Than we have Mata and Joaquin, our only hope for the next game and i hope they can give us just a few minutes of class and score 2 goals, so we can play the rest of the match on safe (meaning, stalling time, sitting out the game and winning without flair)

It must be said that we would of course be commending Emery’s decision if Villa put in a goal to ice the game. However, I don’t care. This was indeed a stupid decision. Ten minutes left, and you put in the star who you planned on resting? Mierda. I hope the subsequent posts are correct – that he won’t be out for ten days – but he will be sorely needed this weekend. As many of you know, I have an affinity – although not as much as my love for our club – for Osasuna. I watch them very closely. With Portillo coming off the bench, and Kike Sola adding an attacking spark, they are dangerous. And the Iranian Nekounam organizes their disciplined mid-field. In short, it will be a tough game. That being said, we should have enough talent to take 3 points. On another note, Zigic is apparently on the permanent outs – good riddance. Yet becuase of his whining, everyone knows he has to be shipped out this winter, and his price tag will thus decrease. Also, I hate to keep bringing this up, but I desperately need to buy Valencia-Barca tickets for the April 26 match, so that I can book my airfare and accomodations. Any tips would be appreciated.

Ali, Angulo still passes the ball well and is not slow but is old. back in the day Angulo used to be Valencia’s most useful player because he could play all the attacking positions and always filled in to a spot when one the attacking unit was hurt or rotated in after Valencia played in Europe. Diego has played for Brazil for more than 5 years in which he has never stood out and when its on him to run Brazil’s attack Brazil has never scored.

So long Timo! What is it with so many of these goalkeepers that makes them such total pricks that can’t spend a few games on the bench and work harder in training like any other player would?

looks like Timo’s time is finished.. how sad :( i really think he is fantastic.. and i really think he can shine but give him a defender to trust because apart from Albiol, we cannot trust any other at the moment.. so bad for the german..

bring on a defender in the transfer market and we will be fine,, and yea.. why not the K9 ..

i think for Villa being in the call is just to life his spirit.. nothing more, he said that he wants to play, and maybe who knows..

    hi all ,
    how r u ???? I hope u all r fine .
David Villa , David Silva are injured ?!!!!
What the Big news ?,,,, they r 2 of 25 Registered players .
Of Course they r the best 2 , but we r not gonna win any title unless we at least have 15 Top Names of our 25 , thats if we wanna be favourites for all competitions we enter
But if we r satisfied with Our state ( the team that can beat Real , Barca and got defeated from Racing , levante , Getafe ) it is O.K , Current Players can do it
i know talk is easy ,, but the Board can do better .
BTW : Cesar , Did the Facebook request was right ????
    thanx

Hildebrand may have been good in germany but i didnt see too much other than quick reflexes.. his possitioning was awefull.. his reading of shots poor. His penalty blocking below average and ultimately his personality was the pits.

So oh well. Let the prima donna leave.. is till think we should have kept Cani on the bench for seasons like this.
