Another Week …
By: Cesar | May 14th, 2007
And another win by our boys, courtesy of goals by the superb David Silva and defender Emiliano Moretti (where’d that come from)? 2-0 over Real Zaragoza and our faint title hopes are still very much alive. The win also all but guarantees our appearance in next season’s Champions League. It would take a monumental collapse for us to miss out. Good work!
There was lots of talk about Pablo Aimar’s return to the Mestalla in a Zaragoza shirt. But it was Silva who stole the show, showing the Valencia denizens his master skill and vision on the pitch.
This kid is good. He’s very good. And it looks like his potential will further blossom, unlike Aimar’s, who was stalled by the injury bug. Big clubs are sniffing around the young star and Los Che would be wise to sign this lad up for the long-term.
Where was Aimar yesterday, by the way? A very quiet game for the former Che starlet.
Game tidbits:
– Videos of the goals can be seen here … enjoy!
– Joaquin continues to impress. The former Real Betis winger looks better and better with each game, curling in crosses, showing off quick footwork and keeping defenses guessing. I’m very happy with his signing, where before, I wondered why we blew so much money on a benchwarmer. Go on, Pisha!
– David Villa missed his first penalty since the Middle Ages (ok, since a year and a half ago). Crisis for the striker? Nah …
– Did Aimar receiver any kind of reception yesterday? Silva totally dominated the game and showed Aimar’s sale might have been the right move.
– Can we please buy Ayala back? Please?
Good all-around game. Total domination by our boys, who made Zaragoza look like a Segunda club. Can we play like this every week? Please?
With Barcelona dropping points (1-1 draw with Real Betis, courtesy of a last-minute Betis equalizer) and Madrid now tied with Barca on points (66 points), we’re only 4 points back, in 4th place.
1 Real Madrid 66
2 Barcelona 66
3 Sevilla 64
4 Valencia 62
So let’s see … we’ve all played 34 games and have 4 left. That’s 12 points in play.
The remaining schedule looks like this:
Week 35
Mallorca - Valencia
Recreativo - Real Madrid
Atlético - Barcelona
Deportivo - Sevilla
Week 36
Valencia - Villarreal
Real Madrid - Deportivo
Barcelona - Getafe
Sevilla - Zaragoza
Week 37
Levante - Valencia
Mallorca - Sevilla
Barcelona - Espanyol
Zaragoza - Real Madrid
Week 38
Nástic - Barcelona
Sevilla - Villarreal
Real Madrid - Mallorca
Valencia - R. Sociedad
We play a struggling Mallorca (well, maybe I shouldn’t say that as they’ve won a few games in a row), 2 local derbies against state rivals Villarreal and city rivals Levante and then close the season against an about-to-be relegated Sociedad.
Suffice to say but I like our chances. Barca looks to have the toughest schedule, playing their bogey team Atletico Madrid next week, then seeing city rivals Espanyol.
Madrid have it easy, but you never know with them. Will the game a few weeks back at the Bernabeu haunt us?
Sevilla have two tough finals upcoming, so let’s hope they tire out and let us overtake them.
Maybe I’m talking crazy, but why can’t we win this league? If history’s taught us anything, it’s that it’s very possible.
What do you all think?
(Note: I try to watch as many games as I can. But sometimes it’s not possible. Might anyone know a good online site where I can watch replays of the games? Thanks!)

if we keep winning the games to come..it might be possible there is still a little hope that we can be the champs of la liga. barca is not in a great form at the moment and the leaders (real madrid) are know for there many mistakes when they are under pressure.
i’m not sure about sevilla though. many believe now that they will not can win the uefa cup (again) and end on top of the primera division too. well guys i’m having a strange feeling that sevilla will win the uefa cup for the second year in a row and also are the big favorites to take the championship in spain. barca and the way they are playing at the moment is not gonna win the league for them. real madrid..well its quite impossible that they will win all the 4 games that are coming so i see them drop some point.
but how long los che still has the chance to win the league i’m still supporting the club till the end and hoping for a new succes since the 2003/04 season. silva was great against zaragoza..what a skill these boy has! clearly he is the best young player in the league of spain for me! go silva!

Silva was great on Sunday. Valencia played one of his best games in this season. But… there are very little chances to win the championship, although we have to fight until the end.

Silva has been great for weeks. It is really thrilling to watch him play now. Just love him. Simply brilliant. He will dominate Spain for more than a decade for sure.
Madrid keeps coming back from behind and that surely boasts their morale but don’t forget they indeed lost goals first. It is always struggling to fight back.If they couldn’t score first, there is a good possibility to be defeated.
Barcelona may be the best but there are no doubt something wrong within the team and I hope they don’t get back on their feet too soon.
Sevilla…not sure. But with so many possibilities they may be to unexperienced to cope with them and end up empty-handed. Let’s hope so…
Valencia. If we could play like we did with Depor away we have a good chance in better position than now since we are almost invincible at Mestalla. But I don’t fancy our chance of winning La Liga. It’s simply to slim. We have to count on too many teams to make too many mistakes. But as abraxas said, we have to fight till the end.Posted from

BTW, the second goal was fantastic. I could watch it for 100 times and still enjoy myself. The Chinese commentator said this was the kind of goal that could make 2 goals. I think he meant the shot Villa attempted and Silva’s goal…
