Another Draw …

1203805857347_enviofotografos_20080223_230003.jpgI’m loving some of the lively debates going on in the ‘Comments’ section of the blog.
Thanks to all for the interesting, emotional comments … please keep them coming.

On to the Mestalla, where Valencia faced a struggling Recreativo in their supposed push towards 4th place and next season’s Champions League.

1-1 and a point. But we deserved more from what I read. I didn’t see the game. But from what I’ve read, we could have done better and should have done better. We put the week’s David Albelda trial behind us and played a decent game. Ever Banega made a stunning pass to Mata for our sole goal. We controlled the midfield. We played as well as we’ve played in the Ronnie Koeman era. Unfortunately, a point is all we could muster against a tricky, defensive Recre side.

How many times have I written that we ‘could have done better’ in this space before? *sigh*
I know, I know … cut the guys some slack, right? But c’mon. I want to see us do well … and if that’s being ‘too emotional’ or ‘too super’ a fan, so be it. I think this is a good team and should win the majority of their games …

Although I’m not of the opinion that coach Ronald Koeman should be killed (like one of the commentators said today in the blog), I do think a sharp ball to Koeman’s chest in practice by Zigic might do the trick. (By the way, have you all seen the sickening injury to Arsenal’s Eduardo today? Wow … that was absolutely horrific. I wish him a speedy recovery … what a sickening injury …)

Speaking of Zigic, he’s not very good, is he? He’d probably miss Koeman completely and hurt himself in the process. He had a superb shot saved in the first half but as Goal.com’s Lucas Brown said in his match report today:

Zigic’s night was summed up when he missed what can only be described as a sitter after Zahinos met a low cross and prodded back towards his own goal where the giant striker was waiting. But he shot wide from four yards out. (UGGH!)

With five minutes remaining Zigic’s bad luck continued as he met a cross from the right and was completely unmarked, but he could only nod it wide of the post.

Zigic apparently has a case of the Arizmendi’s …

We held 64% of the possession, controlled the midfield and still couldn’t find the back of the net save a fine Juan Mata strike in the 1st period.

“We should have won comfortably,” coach Koeman said.

“We played very well from the first minute and we created a lot of clear chances, but we have just not had any luck (in about 2 years now) … It was our best home game and the applause from the crowd showed that. We won the midfield with (David) Silva and (Éver) Banega although that may have limited our defensive strength, but it is always good to play with players that like to play the ball.”

Koeman refused to blame the referee for his side’s struggles as he thought that missing the number of chances that his team did was not down to the officials.

“We have also failed,” he added.

Well, another game. Another 2 points lost.

After a mini-run a few weeks ago, we’re back to our non-winning ways. The weeks evaporate and so do our chances at a Champions League spot. It’s looking more and more like a UEFA Cup spot is in our future. Hopefully … (I can’t believe I’m wishing for a UEFA Cup spot …)

We’re obviously a club in transition. I believe we’ll be in for many more games like today’s this season. Koeman can’t honestly be tactically judged until next season.

As for his character and ability to be a true leader, I think the Albelda episode speaks for itself. Maybe Koeman is the right man for the job. Maybe I’m being hard on him for his disrespectful treatment of guys I’ve considered idols (Canizares, Albelda … Angulo? Well … that just wasn’t very nice what Tintin did to him).

Valencia CF are what they are right now. A 9th-place squad looking to build a solid future. Nothing more. Now, it’s on to Wednesday’s Copa Del Rey semifinal matchup with FC Barcelona.

I hope we don’t embarrass ourselves. I’m sure we won’t.

Unreal ball by Banega. Joaquin and Silva had a few chances too that they could have put away. The good thing to take away is that at least we are playing well against the teams we should beat. However, this game definitely should have ended with 3 or 4 for us.

Unbelievable misses from Zigic.. I might have had a hat trick with the chances he had today. Poor result, but the effort was encouraging. Cesar, I was at Nevada’s cursing as we threw away chances and I noticed two other guys cursing alongside me. If we could get all us valencianistas together on 1 day we could be onto something here

Hi, after the court case I think it is time to recap on the season. Loss/Win/Win/Win/Win/Win/Loss/Win/Loss
GET RID OF TRAINER WITHOUT A REPLACEMENT !!!
2 games and a Champions with a temporary trainer then

    Koeman. Win/Loss/Loss/Draw/Loss/Draw/Draw/Loss/Loss/Loss
    Win/Win/Draw/Draw
Now we have Soler and Koeman calling each other liars
Soler says the 3 guys were taken out for only 2 matches.
For those of you that cant watch the Spanish newsreels I can assure you that I personally watched Koeman say on more than 1 occasion that the 3 would not be putting on a Spanish shirt for the rest of the season and that they should look for another club. As has already been said here the is complete absurdity in kicking out Canizares in this way.Ok dont play him, but what a valuable substitute in the event of injuries. This sort of thinking does not indicate a trainer that has got all his marbles. Koeman is very lucky that Barca have a job to score goals against anyone in the Liga at the moment but if they do kick out Valencia then Koeman will be right behind, the man is a menace…..Adios

awww… I really thought the second goal was going to come. Zigic looked alright. We missed a lot of chances, especially in the dying minutes. It was truly unfortunate. Though, Zigic’s offside goal, wasn’t really offside to me.

    Franky,
I don’t think Koeman is the right man for the job. But I’m trying to give him time …
I realize I change my mind often w/ this club … but ya know, they win/lose/win/lose every week and look good one week, bad the next … I’m trying to stay positive or at least spin the negativity into positiveness. :)

Daniel – We do need to get everyone together … NYC penya!!

Totally unrelated, but I’d just like to say that ever since you dumped us out of the Copa, Atleti have been on a miserable run. Seriously, it’s like you passed the crisis baton to us.

Cesar – stick to your guns and say what you feel. I know you are trying to be positive, but most of us, like you, are disgusted with the whole back office, even before Koeman arrived, but he has made it worse. The court case is obviously affecting the team. But I can’t blame David Albelda, I just can’t. He is showing us all the BS and lies going on at this club that has escalated and is out of control.

Do you people think tht we will beat Barca in thier land??? i think that eto and messi are going to cause so much trouble for our poor defence.. Morretti is good but any apponant tht plays well with his feet can get past Moretti easily…Hilguera is gona b the poor link an so will albiol. Marchena will be running in every direction like always just for the sake of running! i Miss Miguel as our right back.. i think our best defence line in Miguel_Caniera_Hilguera_Morretti… although the only real class of thm all is miguel! but the rest of the team i think are playing like angels! specialy Banega! hes the MAN!

Plus id like to congradulate Koeman with his choices of players! if you look and compare between koeman’s and QQ’s choices.. i think that Banega and Muduro are just womderful players that every team would love to have! unlike Zigic. M fernandes and most stupid deal ARIZMENDI!!! Our style of play is soo much better.. we are actually fun to watch! we r playing with tactics and koeman did his job pretty well.. and gave everythin! he got the players to get the ball infront of the net. i dnt expect him to get into the pitch and show villa or zigic how to head or where to shoot the ball!
im realy sick of hearing people commenting about how bad koeman is just because he kicked out ALbelda, cani, and angulo! i just cant see whaere is the problem since they have been playing like RUBBISH!! i say to those poeple LIFE GOES ON!! its not like Albelda is Pirlo and Cani is Buffon or angulo is C. Ronaldo!

Koeman doesn’t suck because he kicked out the three player Ali.
He sucks cause he can’t get the points on the board.

It was a nice game by us, I’m still mystified by the score.

Zigic I would’ve given a 10/10 if he scored at least one chance, he looked like a thread going forward and often had 2-3 defenders on him which left room for the others.

And Silva’s goal! Argh! Stupid ref. I think we’re the most hurt team by refs this season, all our competition get tons of help while we get held back. It’s not like the refs aren’t helping us, they’re doing worse, they help the opponent we’re facing.
    Zigic’s goal was offside though…

Oh and we’ll lose against Barca. Even if we should win the ref will probably help them ala Zaragoza vs Barca cause refs hate us and love Barca (they don’t like Madrid these days…)

you are right JJ we r not getting points.. but id like you to remmeber in QQ’s day how did we get the point, remmeber when Silva kicked the ball and hit a defender and went in Butelle;s nets.. we use to win with LUCK ALL THE TIME! We played like shit and won,, but now i think we have class while we play! we show tactics,, nice passes! things we never saw with QQ this season!
