All Quiet on the Levante Front

By: Cesar | June 27th, 2007

alexis27ju2007b.jpgThings are quiet on the Valencia front and that’s a good thing considering the barrage of news that hit us the past few weeks.

But we got some good news today as new signing Alexis Ruano was strutted around the Mestalla after his official signing.

He’s young, he’s Spanish, he’s a great reader of the game. But he’ll have to adjust quickly to life with the Big Boys. He’s taking over for center back Roberto Ayala and this could be hard. Ayala is one of the best in the world at the center back position and the 21-year old Spanish international coming from Getafe has his work cut out.

“He is a great player but I am different to him,” Alexis said at his presentation. “It’s magnificent what he has achieved but I don’t like to be compared with anyone. I am coming to work hard and win titles.”

I’m with you, Alexis. Buena suerte.

In other news, seems like Atletico Madrid may beat us to poacher Diego Forlan.
They’re offering Villarreal 20 million Euros plus Columbian defender Luis Parea. That’s crazy money. Sorry, but the Uruguayan striker isn’t worth that much. Let’s explore other options, like Milito of Zaragoza before spending this type of money on a streaky striker who takes time to warm up.

In one other piece of news, Liverpool have offered us Luis Garcia for 5 million Euros. That’s intriguing. He’s a solid player, very quick with wonderful pace. He’s also the author of some splendid goals, like his wonder-bomb against Juventus in the Champions League a few years back. Unfortunately, he’s injury-prone. Much like our Vicente.

What do you guys think? The summer’s heating up. Valencia need to start acting soon …

You know, I read in an Arabic article yesterday, that Valencia CF will be sending few representatives next week to Netherlands, in order to re-open and re-discuss the possibility of signing Sneijder, specially after the player has shown very strong desire and preference to join Valencia over any other club in Spain. The article claimed that for this reason, Valencia will be revisiting Netherlands to revive the paused/stopped/cancelled negotiations. If such a rumor comes true, then Luis Garcia will not be of pressing need to Valencia. If this prove to be false (we can wait for next week), then Luis Garcia is a good alternative, except for some wrong passes and wide shoots in every match.

I don’t like Juanito. I think there are other players better than him. Alexis-Albiol was the defence who win European under-21 for Spain.

Tell us about Sneijder George Jordan!!!!!

    pd: great web

Hi guys, this is the link of the news (may be rumors) I was talking about, which is composed in Arabic:

    http://www.kooora.com/default.aspx?showarticle=23518&obj=0

The news talks in a fact-based statements that Valencia CF will be refreshing the freezed/cancelled negotiations again, as Sneijder is heartfully attached to Valencia.

We all need to remember that talking about transfers and signings is abundant of rumors that would fill webpages and magazines, just to attract more readers. This article does not refer to any source for the information that we can or even cannot trust. Personally, I will just wait to verify such a piece of news.

Imagine silva (left-side), scneijder (center), and juaquin (right-side), besides one defending midfield (the tough albelda)… That’s fantastic for 4-4-2, even this can cultivate great results when playing with one striker like villa and adding another defending midfielder. What else would valencia need to return winning trophies after having Sneijder. It will be a strong team with a lot of strong back up replacements like Vecente (for silva), Baraja (for Sneijder), and Viana (for Juaquin).

5m for Luis Garcia? That’s what Giuly costs, supposedly, so that seems a good deal. I think he would make a fine addition to Valencia, really. Injury prone, yeah, but not so bad that he won’t contribute 5m worth of wondergoals throughout his contract.

Don’t know about Ruano, being so young (and defenders need a lot of experience at this level), but if he’s as good as they say he is, investing in him now is definitely the way to go. It would be nice if Barca got someone worth a damn at the back during this offseason, but we’ll have to see about the Abidal/Chivu/f-ing whoever rumors are true; so, so far Valencia are winning the war on bringing in talent along the backline, or if not talent per say, then potential.

Whether that translates to immediate success is somewhat doubtful, but a revamped Barcelona will provide a chance for Valencia to sneak in with a top 2 finish, I think, since we’re going to be a little off kilter at the beginning of the campaign and will have to play catch up the rest of the year.

Anyway, it looks like Valencia is not overspending like Barca, and that’s always a welcome sign…

D Milito is definitely a better bet than Forlan, but he’ll probably been more expensive, too.

Speaking of that, you’ve got Morientes and (the awesome) David Villa, not to mention bags of young talent, so why are Valencia even looking for a striker?

Alexis is a good player but arizmendi is not valencia material. We need to buy a good centrum midfielder like sneyder and a quality defender for example andrade

Valencia should not worry on their attacking side. Even though they only have 3 forwards (villa, moro, arizmendi), they have the like of silva who can play behind villa as support striker. They need a defence leader who can control the back line as good as ayala did before. By the way, don’t forget that vicente will be back soon n the greatest attacking force will rule la liga next season. n george, I’m sorry but I don’t agree with u when u said vicente is the replacement of silva cuz i believe joaquin, vicente, silva n villa should be playing together. Then we will see the fastest ever attacking side in the football history that are ruling the liga and also CL.
    Amunt! Valencia la victoria…

We need proper backup for Villa, and Moro. Ariz and Silva are not playing that position. Especially for Moro, someone who can make the best of Vicente/Joaquin’s center. And when Villa is crowded by defenders, we need a proper ST to finish them off.
