Again and Again … Valencia Destroyed
By: Cesar | December 2nd, 2007
It’s becoming repetitive writing depressing posts like these.
So I’ll try to keep this brief.
We lost. Again. This time to Athletic Bilbao, who humiliated us 3-0 at the Mestalla. They hadn’t beaten us at home in 50 years. There goes that.
That’s why fans are uninterested. Who wants to go all the way to Mestalla to watch a bunch of guys who don’t seem to care? Only about 33,000 showed up to the midweek match against Schalke 04, this a low for a team that used to consistently sell out the big European matches.
Today, fans started walking out at the 75th minute, a chorus of whistles engulfing the stadium, showing once again that the most involved people in Valencia are the spectators.
This, straight from Reuters, because I just don’t feel like typing right now.
Valencia’s season lurched from bad to downright awful after they were crushed 0-3 at home by Athletic Bilbao.
Ronald Koeman’s side got the white handkerchief treatment from an angry Mestalla crowd as the Basque side strolled to victory with goals from Francisco Yeste and two from Fernando Llorente, who had an excellent game.
The visitors struck in the 33rd minute when Yeste fired a spectacular left-footed free-kick into the top corner past a static Santiago Canizares.
Llorente got in on the act with a typical centre forward’s header in the 66th minute, before adding a third for Bilbao at the death after another mix up in the Valencia back line.
Uggh. UGGH. UGGH!!!
Weren’t things supposed to be different this year? Weren’t we supposed to be debating who we’d play in the knockout stages of the Champions League come February? Or our top-of-the-table clash with Barcelona in a few weeks time?
The life has been sucked out of the season. For now. I know that fates can change quickly in Spanish football.
But for now, I’m depressed that the club’s playing so bad.
-Where was Villa? Again? Did he even play?
-Why did we buy Zigic? Explain this to me.
-Edu. Sucked. Understandable. Manuel Fernandes? Sucked. Not understandable.
-Didn’t our defense used to be the best in Europe? What happened there?
-Canizares? I love you, brother. But please hang them up. It’s embarrasing.
-And maybe I was wrong all along: This wasn’t QQ’s fault. (There, I said it. Ok, it was his fault AT TIMES. He made bad tactical decisions.) It’s the players. They’re not good enough.
So whose fault is this? Soler’s? The fans? The players? Mine?
Were the expectations too much?
Am I whining again for no reason? Have I gone too far again because I think this team should be better than they are?
I dunno .. you tell me.
3-0 vs Villarreal at home
2-0 vs Rosenberg at home
2-0 vs Rosenberg in Norway
5-1 vs Madrid at home
1-0 vs Racing away
Am I whining? Am I crazy to think we should be better than the above?
This one sucks more than the 5-1 at home against Madrid.
I just hope someone cares enough to get the once great Valencia CF out of this funk before it’s too late.

You speak the truth. I was truly ashamed after watching that nonsense today (I recorded the game on Gol TV as I had to work). I wish it was easy to prescribe, but it’s both the offense (or lack thereof) and the defense. They are both horrible. The money spent on Zigic would be well spent on any other than the worthless almost 7 footer. Fernandez actually is starting to come on, albeit he still isn’t that great. I’m just at a loss for words. I’m starting to believe that my other team, Osasuna, could actually take Valencia–what a sickening thought.

it was QQs fault,, if he was a good coach thn his players shouldnt be so careless..he brought thier morale down so much and left!! the second goal ” the head” albiol or edu was exactly WALKING next to the header.. i swear he was shoping maybe or smthing…so now we dnt only have bad defence,, we have bad defense, we have bad offence and we suck in the middle,, tell me where is the team? where is the millionscan we spent? on who ? on a giraffe tht can balry run? i dnt blame manuel fernandes,, he played a fair game compared to morientes,, and david villa.. even people on this blog dnt paqrticipate nemore like they use to,, fans in spain are not coming to watch the games nor fans overseas… when they had the ball the field was open but when the ball was with us, the player with th ball can barly walk or run 3 meters without a bilboe player cutting in, but our players give them the chance to walk and run!

Tim, Osasuna fan?
I have a friend here in NYC who is a huge Osasuna fan … Where you located?
Ali, I agree wholeheartedly … I am not sure what my blog numbers are for the month, but if they are anything like what the Mestalla gates are, they’re pretty low … no worries. This will pick up. It has to. RIGHT???

offcourse it will.. cuz i dnt think valencia can play any worse.. anything in the future has to be upwards cz we hit “rock bottom” as koeman said.

I started watching this game full of hope, fluid passing.. one-twos all around. Then when Silva did an “Arizmendi” from the top of the six yard box in the 4th minute I started cursing… cursing which would unfortunately continue throughout the match. What hurts about this match is that they were really giving it a go in the early stages. I’d prefer if they were walking half heartedly and we’d lost, I’d have a better excuse. But they were really trying in the first half. Unlucky not to be up in the fifth minute? Perhaps. But what is definitely clear right now is our old success of a few years ago was built from the back, with Ayala as our rock and other solid defenders around him. Priority #1 come January 1st is a world class defender, I don’t care if we need to sell half of the team to buy one.

I cant bare it anymore! Im pretty sure i threw up a litlle as i was eating lunch on Sunday watching the game. as for the the weak midfield: where the hell are the threw balls down the middle to Villa? Zigic looks like a chicken with his head cut off! NO SUPPLY leads to NO CHANCES and NO GOALS, that is the real problem!
