A Valencia New Year

By: Cesar | December 30th, 2008

A New Year beckons for all of us in a few hours … and let’s hope it’s not too much like 2008 for Our Beloved club.

Sure, we won the Copa Del Rey. Spain won Euro 2008. But who here wouldn’t rather be playing in the Champions League? I’d trade both of those in to see us against Europe’s best … (well, maybe not trade in Euro 2008 … can I have both please, sir??)

We persist with the silly rumors about David Villa and David Silva, we put up with economic hardships and we suffer through the Juan Solers and Ronald Koemans of the world and all for what?

Because we love the club, that’s why!

In closing, a cool video forwarded to me by Javier De Roque about Valencia CF … our club!

Enjoy and Happy New Year … don’t drink too much and if you do, make sure to take some aspirin!

2009 … the year we get back into the Champions League and win some hardware! Also, the club’s 90th anniversary (nifty logo, eh?)

AMUNT and see you next year …

I just want to take this opportunity to thank everyone here again for making this such an amazing blog. Cesar, you are incredibly well written and have a comedic flare that is tough to match. And to all the friends I have made via this blog, Happy New Year and many blessings to each of you this year.

Anyone care to state their New Year’s resolution?
    Mine is to stop smoking…again.

I have been following this blog for the past two seasons! I just read the blog and the comments, but never post. I am too busy posting on XT Forum. A fantastic and wonderful Valencia forum. Cesar knows about it. Anyway, I love the video. I love the build-up to many of the gaols. It’s just wonderful how Valencia do it. We got a unique style.
    HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Hi, I was pleased to see Abelda get some recognition for his loyalty to the club. He got quite a lot of bad remarks on this site and of course masses of opposition from the “fans!!” when they booed him for standing against the Directors in the court for trying to ruin his future, in fact without doubt he lost a Eurocopa medal because he was banned by Koeman. Superdeporte has just revealed the voting for Valencia personality of the year and Abelda came top with 5429 votes,Villa 4580,Mata 4386 Emery 3196….botoom of the pile came Villalonga 544 then Koeman 1224 then Soler 1438. A deserving win for Abelda for what he went through BUT WHO GAVE KOEMAN 1224 VOTES. Valencia fans !!!
I hope some of you guys are right about a reserve goalkeeper because the Superdeporte yesterday said that Emery would bring in Salva )our 2ndb team goalie). THAT IS DISGUSTING, WE ALREADY GUAITA.They are struggling to keep from going down for Godºs sake.
Amunt for Saturday 10 pm Spanish on Cana 9 Alñmendras

Hi, with regards to my earlier post. Salva is the goalkeeper for our 2nd b team that replaced Guaitas position. This is bad news if Emery goes through with it.
The other Salva is a Striker that was top goalscorer in 1st div one year and top goalscorer in 2nd Div as well, later on he played for us and also Levante, not sure where he is now.
Re Koeman, a thought just struck me that it was for PERSONALITY of the year, well after all “Jack The Ripper”
    was a personality after all……….Almendras

Albelda deserves that.. no doubt for me that he’s the most valencianista in this team.. the one with the most heart in the game.. thought not the most tactics.. but playing with heart is essential..

    Animo Albelda!

Its seems like Miguel might be a doubt for the Atletico match as he trained in the gym today. I really hope Curro Torres doesnt play as right back!

Btw..there is a really interesting article on goal.com (ive seen it on several sites as well) that mentions all the players that would be out of contract by the end of the season in the Spanish league. Technically we can discuss with them right now and get them for free. Here are my favorite players on that list :

    1) Kameni (he’s only 24 and im 100% sure he is miles better than Renan or Guaita). Guaita can return to the B team (they really need him!) and Renan can be 2nd goalkeeper. Id prefer 19 year old Asenjo, but this option wont cost us anything. If he doesnt convince we can always sell him.

    2) Juanito. Although older than that Dealbert guy, he has loads of experience and is better than Marchena and im 100% sure he is better than Dealbert. I think he still has a couple of years in him (even on the bench he would make a better sub than Dealbert).

    3) From other leagues : Olic (Hamburg) and Fred (im not convinced his contract ends in June 2009) : Morientes’ contract ends in June and both these options would be great replacements. Im pretty sure Fred would be difficult to get but we can still get Olic (although I still think we need 2 strikers if Morientes leaves).
