A Quickie
By: Cesar | April 27th, 2007I’m away from New York and football this weekend as I’m in the southern part of the USA at a wedding for a good friend.
North Carolina doesn’t afford one the opportunity to watch La Liga & our beloved Valencia, so the post today’s quick and painless.
It boils down to this: we need three points. That easy.
I can say it 70 times (Villa reference there) but we need these points badly.
It’s Recreativo de Huelva at home, a place in Europe on the line.
Anyone going to the game or have an opportunity to watch it? Please post some comments.
I won’t be able to see the game or read about it until Monday, when I return to my manic schedule.
The more I read, the more I think Villa’s gone this summer. Anyone else feel the same way?
I’m off to drink an adult beverage. See you!

Where in North Carolina are you at?
If you’re in Charlotte, there’s probably a couple of places you could go.

I personally don’t think Villa is leaving this summer. Villa definitely thinks he’s a pretty big deal and I think he likes being the star of the team. I’m not sure he could share that spotlight with all the other big stars at Chelsea or Juve or wherever else they say he’s going.

Hey Brian, I am in High Point/Greensboro … any suggestions?
I hope Villa stays … who would we get to replace him?? Who would be worth the money?

No idea, I went to college in Greensboro, but that was ten years ago and the only soccer there was at the UNCG stadium which much to my annoyance was right outside my dorm room window my freshman year.
I haven’t been there in a while, probably a year or so, but it’s a very soccer friendly town. If you want to bother calling around and seeing who has GolTV, that would be your best bet. You might want to try the Green Burro, Keegan’s, Natty Greene’s, or the 1740 Tap room.
The bar above the Green Burro is pretty cool just to visit, it’s called M’Coul’s and has a rooftop bar downtown.
Also, if you go downtown, make sure to stop by the Rhino Club, well, if it’s still there. Awesome bar that looks like it hasn’t changed since the twenties. I used to always feel like Al Capone was going to walk in there at any minute and open fire. The crowd, like most places there, isn’t that great, but they’re friendly for the most part. Anyhow…

I don’t think Villa is leaving. He stated in an interview that he likes it at Valencia and he wouldn’t have signed a 7 year contract with the club if he wanted to leave.
One thing is clear is that it gives Valencia a chance to file yet another report on a coach, this time Marcelino of Recreativo. If Valencia wish to secure one of spots 4-2, I think first is out of the question, they’ll really have to diverge from their current L-W-L-W-L pattern and put a win streak together to keep them in the thick for the much needed and much desired Champions League spot.
I say a 3-1 win for Los Che. Ximo, Silva, and Villa to score. I’m not sure if Gavilan is healthy to play, but he should be match fit very very soon.

well Joaquin goaled 2. I always think the time when Joaquin begins to shine is the time when we begin to fight for the title, but it’s a little late this time.
And Villa played very nice. I don’t think he will leave, he’s the biggest star here.

Joaquin is on fire at the moment. 2 smashing goals from a Villa pass and a Silva cross. He’s has been consistent since the second half of the season, looking more and more like the Joaquin we paid 25 mils for. Imagine if Vicente wasn’t injured. Our game from the left and right wingers would be awesome. Marchena has been great too.
Love your web page. Very up to date. I’m one of the very few Valencia fans here in Thailand too.

Brian, thanks for the info. Unfortunately, the wedding was on Saturday and didn’t get a chance to make it to Greensboro.
High Point is very, very quiet. I can’t stress how quiet it is. But that’s a nice thing coming from New York City.
Thanks for the comments, all.
