A Massive Chance
By: dan_c | May 11th, 2011Let’s hope the Offside gives Dan an account soon. Offside, anyone listening? HELLO? Dan’s back for more about Los Che. Take it away … – Cesar
So we’ve turned the corner with a comfortable win over Sociedad (HOW DID THAT RABBLE BEAT BARCA?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!!?!?!?!?!??). Fourth ours maybe? I think so. But that’s not what this article is about.
The discussion recently on Valencia Offside has been that of Granero from Real now that Sahin has joined. But there is another player who has clearly expressed him preference for a move to Valencia. Frankly, not signing him would be like a surgeon deciding that, actually it isn’t so important that he have lungs, and so gives them to someone else. That is the enormity of the situation.
His name. (King) Kevin Gameiro.
This is why I believe he is a must-buy:
- He has scored 20 goals so far this season in one of the top 5 leagues in Europe, propelling unfancied minnows (no pun intended) Lorient into the Europa League spots. This is despite the lack of real quality around him in a side that was expected to struggle for survival. Imagine Wigan Athletic, now insert a 20-goal striker and them sitting 7th. Ya, he’s good. He has outscored the strikers of giants Lyon, Marseille and PSG. Only Moussa Sow (of Lille) has scored more than Kev (21) and he has the supply of Gervinho and Eden Hazard, both unbelievable young players who have been linked to European giants in England, Spain and Germany.
- He hasn’t just scored against the small teams either. This season he has scored 3 against Bordeaux and Lille, as well as against PSG, Rennais and Lyon. The latter 4 make up the top 5 (along with Marseille) in the Ligue 1 table this season.
- He is consistent and clinical. He rarely has dry runs of form. His goal tally in Ligue 1 alone was 17 last season.
His price tag should be modest (around 12-15m euros).
- He has extremely quick feet and a good first touch. He is adept at finishing moves. This will fit perfectly with Los Che’s good passing movement and creativity around the box. Gameiro and Soldado with creativity around them could cause certain (biologically unfortunate) people to require changes of underwear when watching Valencia if Gameiro joins.
These people probably aren’t amped but for the rest of us, watch the video below.
A small taste of a player who wants to join Los Che, and Valencia would be fools to turn down.

As we all know Valencia’s big problem this season has been consistency. With a man like Kev to partner San Sol, we will be able to grind out points against the smaller sides more easily. This season we have drawn and lost to Osasuna, lost and drew to Zaragoza, lost to Mallorca, drawn with Gijon and Racing. Draws with Racing and Gijon and losses to Mallorca aren’t disasters but taking 1 point each from Zaragoza and Osasuna are infuriating. Add 10 or so points to our current points total and suddenly, while not quite with Barca, Real Mourinho aren’t that far off.
King Kevin Gameiro. A man who I can’t believe isn’t being linked to bigger clubs. This is a serious chance Valencia, do the intelligent thing please. For once.
Dan
P.S. Now I admit I am in desperately deep love with everything France and Ligue 1, so in advance apologies for any hyperbole, exaggeration, over-exaggeration and gross hyperbolic over-over-exaggeration on the part of the writer. The views and opinions expressed by the writer are in no way a reflection on the sane and rational people that Valencia supporters usually are.
P.P.S. On a different note, I’ve become a bit frustrated in the last few days with a plague that repeatedly annoys the world. These being Liverpool supporters (who also happen to be friends) who have an amazing ability to, each time their side actually wins(in real life), rediscover the belief that they are the best team in the world and definite favourites for premier league, champions league, world president, Barney Stinson’s Most Awesome and keeper of the Ring(sorry Frodo) titles.
However I have discovered the cure to this affliction. Simply turn to the aforementioned Liverpool fan, smile blandly and say, “So what did the Liverpool supporter do when their side won the Premier League?” wait a little, build the suspense, throw in a couple of ellipses and then say, “He turned off the Playstation and went to bed.”
Amunt.

7amanito I know it’s going to be a sad day but best of luck to him.

Apparently we are bidding for Florian Lejeune, a 19 year old defender playing for FC Istres in the Ligue 2. Now his agent stated that next week a deal will be finalized with “one of the three big Spanish teams”. So i wonder, why would he put Valencia in this sentence if it was either Barca or RM and we weren’t seriously bidding for him. Usually nobody refers to the big THREE unless Valencia has a major role in the discussion…
Anyway this guy has been checked out by ManU, Man City, Barca, Madrid (Mourinho diggs him) and Valencia for starters, i know the french league is one of our target leagues (we get financial compensation from Unibet for getting players there, hence Gameiro, Gynac, Rami, Mathieu, etc.). I like the idea of getting a young talent, put him next to Rami, a la Pique / Puyol…

-

Haha Johnnie….I remember that.
Those were the days.I wonder where Zickler, Apostolito,sx1,Jeeshan,Princessache and the rest are.
Wouldnt mind us doing that again for Gameiro and a very good defender this time around.

Anybody got a link to the game?

wtf is this son of a bitch thinking not letting our legend play? wtf man!
seriously there’s no shitty reason to defend that people. so shuushh please i dont wanna discuss it im so fucking angry!

-

Agreed – thats cold.

-

How the fuck can we not beat 10 Levante players with such a squad??
And yeah, fuck you Emery, thats cold hard!

-

We don’t need the game and he still doesn’t start Vicente, who’s still a solid player, in his last game in Mestalla? That’s f’d up. I’m still supportive of Emery staying on, but just can’t see why he would do that to a hometown legend. Sin verguenza.

-

Ive never been a fan of Emery’s tactics but I always thought he was a nice person in real life but today im 100% sure he’s not.
Why wait only give Vicente 15mins in his farewell match? The player has helped us for more than 10 years and he’s always given everything for the club, the least Emery could do was let him play a full match!
Has there every been a farewell match where the player thats leaving doesnt start? Its the first time ive seen something like this being done to a club legend!
Ive lost all the respect ive had for Emery, and now I understand why he has a lot of problems with players.

100% agreed Fayez!

Which means this article is good news for us

its rare in valencia to see a player thats leaving start the match. Baraja didnt. Angulo didnt.. Rufete didnt

-

Johnnie, he’s starting to feel the heat.
he has problems with players who have talent and personality and determination.Fernandes, Chori, Vicente, Banega, Albelda, Navarro. and they talk about the lack of a leader in the team. i’d put that in Emery’s basket of faults too. yes i will.
Ever seen a player this season pushing his friends forward like what we’ve seen Albelda always do?
If anyone trusted him, they would start pushing that trust forward in the field. which is not happening.

-

@Johnnie: He’s arrogant about it
Its like he’s doing us a favor and thinking about signing another year for us.

-

@Javier: Im pretty sure Baraja started his last match against Tenerife last year and was replaced. We could have done the same for Vicente.

-

Farewell Vicente, Ill miss seeing him warm the bench.

-

@ 7amanito,
well what do you expect, we have the weirdest captain policy ever.- First captain: Vicente. Position: Left bench / backup to Mata.
- Second captain: Navarro. Position: Defender / left bench / backup.
- Third captain: Joaquin. Position: middle bench / backup to Pablo.
- Fourth captain: Cesar. Position: backup to Guaita.??????
@ Fayez
LOL, like he could! I think it is time for Valencia to move on, i guess he is feeling that too. Most aren’t negative towards Emery, but also few are thrilled to have him with us. We can do better, get in Pellegrini!

-

Johnnie I don’t think Pellergrini will come since Malaga won’t relegate and I don’t think any other manager will be able to do as good as Emery did that being said I do have a feeling that we should get Laudrup.
I was thinking to let Emery stay for another year and see if he can achieve something significant like semi final in CL but now I am unsure don’t get me wrong I am very thankful for everything he has done but maybe it’s time to move on. Like Fabregas said ”In Spain if an manager like Guardiola,Mourinho and Emery doesn’t win something in three years they replace him” He was talking about the difference between Spanish and English football and Emery has been manager in three years and hasn’t won anything I know it’s hard to win something with our situation but we didn’t every reach a semi final the best we have done under him in knock-outs was quarter finals in copa del rey and lost to Sevilla.
I will have faith in Llorente and pray for the best.

-

And what Emery has done to Vicente was disrespectful and immature, he put his personal feelings above and it is always wrong to do that in football.
I won’t forgive him for that unless it is a really good reason to do that.

-

up valencia, we won the other league and play cl fotball with better defence in a few months
